  1. Roth TSP can come from tax exempt money but only up to the deferred contribution limit ($18k this year). If you want to put more than that into tsp (I think the limit is $53k or so) that can (actually has to) come from tax exempt money but it has to go into traditional TSP.
  2. Not sure about TSP conversion, but if you're talking about trying to decide whether to invest in traditional vs Roth TSP then I'll bite. Roth is purely a tax treatment of your investment. So it's not a diversification issue in terms of investments-which is kind of what I think you're asking. However, diversification of your tax basis can be a very useful thing. You have to decide whether you think your tax rate will be higher in the future. But you already knew that. The baseline for most of these discussions are that you have $15k to invest, if you pay tax and put it in a Roth then you invest less that $15k this year, but it's all tax free when you withdraw. If you put that $15k in a traditional tsp account then its pretax so you get all of $15k in the account now but you pay tax on all of it later. If you and your wife are in a position to max out your Roth IRA and TSP, I would rather have $23k (I think that's the limit this year-18 in tsp and 5 in Ira?) of after tax money than $23k that I still have to pay taxes on. Then again, the Feds could renege on the whole Roth thing altogether. So as with most things, it depends. Good luck.
  3. Mostly valid, except comparing young E's to college students. Same age demographics, but that's about where the comparison ends IMO. But to your point-I think it was #3 on the list of recommendations was improving financial literacy. I think that is the biggest key to all of this, unfortunately that's going to turn into more bullshit where we have to get 100% contact with the squadron and sit through more briefings taught by someone who doesn't know what TSP is.
  4. I don't disagree with you. In the same vein, how does it make any sense to buy the last 747 off the assembly line if one of the problems were currently having is getting parts I can't see that getting better if they aren't making new ones anymore.
  5. And hobbit just started a new thread about buying new VC-25s to the tune of 1.7 billion over the next 5 years. So we're going to replace a 747 with a 747 because the old one is 25 years old. Nice…
  6. Couldn't decide whether to start a new thread, post this in the thread about the 2 star saying shit he shouldn't, here or the "what's wrong with the AF" thread as an example of what's right, but this is an example of a bro doing good work. DFC with valor - these are the stories we need to be telling about OEF http://www.luke.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123437149#.VMLAIOf1Hrs.facebook
  7. I thought I didn't understand that first sentence last night because I was drinking. But I still don't get it this morning. If anything, the recent events have helped break through some of the two team mindset.
  8. H model dude going to yokota?
  9. If I remember the story correctly, he left AD for the airlines before 9/11 then got furloughed, found an ARC job then managed to get back on AD as a speech writer at the pentagon. Someone else can link his bio…
  10. Maybe I should have posted in the masters information thread in response to champs post where he said: In my little slice of heaven, AADs are no longer being tracked for strats at the squadron level. That column has been replaced by PT score. (I'm not smart enough to quote a post from another thread into this one on my phone) It sounds like champ is talking about LRF.
  11. Working for me. It doesn't display links correctly, but I can open topics. I'm on an iPhone 6 running iOS whatever version were on now.
  12. I heard that a friend of a friend in the 19th got a DNP from Rhat on his PRF for the current Majors board because said dude failed a PT test when he was a LT
  13. Math doesn't lie. You are in fact correct. However, what is USAA paying on money market accounts right now? 0.69 percent? On 20-30k over 5 years were talking about how much money in real dollars? I'm too lazy (and drunk) to do the math right now, but I've done it before and it just wasn't worth the hassle to not pay cash and be done with the car buying transaction. But if it's worth your time, then please enjoy the spoils.
  14. He didn't. Looks like he made O-6 in AETC then went to PACAF.
  15. First I've seen of this. Any winglet guys care to comment? http://www.charleston.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123435107
  16. Or I might as well not stay for 20. 3 day opting that 365 just got a little easier

Or get all the sheriffs on board like has happened in Colorado with no one enforcing the magazine restrictions.

Mine is black, but I love it.
  19. Sure, why not. Does nK have any companies? Torture. The CIA. North Korea connected to Sony attack as company cancels Dec. 25 release of 'The Interview' http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2014/12/17/us-government-saw-interview-approved-theaters-upping-security/ Good. We're giving in to the demands of the terrorists. How about a big F YOU to the Jonger and release it for free to anyone who will air it over the airwaves, post a free download on their website, etc.
  20. I love it when this topic comes back up again. For the record, I have the AMEX blue cash and I'm a big fan. In before the Dave Ramsay acolytes.
  21. Either we are slipping or I missed this being posted in another thread. http://deadline.com/2014/12/sony-hack-timeline-any-pascal-the-interview-north-korea-1201325501/ Does this make anyone else really want to go see The Interview?
  22. I saw a news article last night that I can't find again at the moment or id link it that said Dubya canceled a trip to Switzerland in February over concerns he would be arrested. It's ok, we'll keep him in Texas.
  23. That's what I'm talking about!
