  1. You've been around long enough, you know how this works.
  2. Well, this sucks. Finally had a SecDef that actually cared about the individual grunts and would hammer leadership for their stupidity without breaking the service (RE: Gates). I generally haven't cared much about who the SecDef was for the last 2 decades, but I am legit saddened by this development and think it does not bode well for our future. Except for the obvious bullshit social experiment under the last SecDef.
  3. Oh, are we still pretending Wright Pat is a Air Force Base, and not a civilian run self-licking ice cream cone?
  4. I've got my grievances with the HPO/Shiny Penny method of leadership selection we utilize. But there's got to be a difference between the APZ's you guys work with and the ones I do...because the ones I do are awful. Maj's that can't communicate, can't lead, can't even manage, extremely risk averse and should just dress up in a Blue Falcon costume. Never mind failing training requirements, and still demanding to be "first out the door." Perhaps I'm just institutionalized since I hit 20 early next year.
  5. My guess is they're going for "combat related?"
  6. Jesus...this isn't reddit...calm down. 🤣
  7. Seems like WotR is reading BODN for articles, or just serendipity that we were discussing this - https://warontherocks.com/2018/12/promoting-what-we-value-weapons-school-and-talent-management-in-the-air-force/ Super big fan of Cyber Patches being negatively impacted...again, shows what we value.
  8. Are we projecting an officer SCOD without a corresponding change in strats? They can't do a SCOD with how we're doing strats now. There's so much double dipping (1/69 O3's, 1/969 CGO's, 1/6969 Officers) it would impact our "almost HPO's." Granted we're all worker bees, so I'm sure no one's telling the AFPC trolls (retired O5 & 6's) how that'll screw the field. Could always just get to narrative PRF's and do away with strats all together.
  9. No he's correct. That's what all mine said. Here's correct about it, however our career-field is having a seizure about what we're going to value. I almost got sent to what a Sq CC considered a DO equivalent job... Except for the duty title. Wing and Sq would have "understood" but that's it, so I fought it. I would have been labeled poorly at DT since last opr said DO selection spot-on. Wing CC got appraised if situation and called shenanigans. I meant to say the young Capts are worrying about if the next job/move puts them in some HPO path or awesome wing job for a wing strat. Let about "bloom where planted." Those things can be influenced, but are beyond individual control.
  10. You know it. Just let me take out my retainer first.
  11. More for the Army - their new PT is fucking stupid and we need to guard against some fat-GS moron at HAF thinking it's a good idea to protect "their" force. Had a bunch of soldier going through it here in the gym one day and watching them go through it was just...insanity.
  12. It's going to be interesting to see how this works in my AFSC since the first round of bonus takers comes retainability in a couple of years. I've got young Capts coming to me worrying about this stuff...when what pawnman is saying is accurate. None of this is in your hands, timing and luck cover a lot of these issues. Bad bosses, poor writers, stuck in a shitty command...God Speed.
  13. There is also a documentary on Youtube that has this done, though not to such a high level. It's about the rise of communism and Stalin. It's fantastic.
  14. Need more of you in Cyber. Started my folks doing "Threat of the Week" briefs and it was like a Holy Crusade against their no-work-Fridays. I've got maybe...4 people that really understand what Ops means/feels like. All prior aircrew or Mx.
  15. I'm sure the voucher got kicked back a few times...
  16. For real. Those E's leadership failed. It's authorized in AFI with a few required items/timelines (which we hit). There are some AFSCs/jobs that get it automatically and we're trying to get added if (actually when) we pick up that mission.
  17. Greetings from Cyber-land. Looks like we've started to develop a national strategy on how to impose costs on the enemy and threaten with "the cybers" just like when we park B-52s near North Korea - https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/23/us/politics/russian-hacking-usa-cyber-command.html Fantastic read overall, specific part - Of additional interest is this Cyber National Mission Force twitter account which is dropping malware that's been discovered in the wild - https://twitter.com/CNMF_VirusAlert Shit's getting real folks. We're developing legit policy to inform strategy to impose legit costs on our enemy in this new domain. I'm fucking excited. As the DO of a Cyber Ops Unit getting the expeditionary/Ops mindset in our Airmen is...difficult. Hopefully the "You're an instrument of National power projection" will help...if not, shit's about to get even more directive. Additionally, getting some of the HHQ shoe clerks to think outside of TDY's to CONUS locations and what it takes to go to some of these places has been extremely difficult. Required to wear civilian clothes...we need a civ clothing allowance for our E's. The retired MSgt running XP shaking his head "No," since they can just go buy it out of pocket. WTF. Also, did you know that we've hired civilians onto our teams? Did you know we're unable to order civilians to take missions? They can just refuse. Great planning AF! I'm going to start throwing around "Gucci boys" as a slur. We're starting threat of the week next Friday, so if anyone's got a good template let me know. Otherwise the 2Lt doing it can thrash and learn via pain. Fuck I love this job. Thanks to everyone here for the guidance over the years, it's helping very much.
  18. No doubt, I was more along the lines of splitting those doing cyber ops from you normal Comm sq (IT) dude. One's ops, ones compliance...but we're 1 AFSC because it's easier for AFPC to manage use that way.
  19. Did you get training to do all that? I wonder about the dude who gets tagged to do these reports how they're prepared for it.
  20. Like Fuzz says we've got a number of 2-time commanders, and a lot of O-4 Sq/CC's now. Per AFPC we're all in for command, no declinations, I think that's more a product of 2 AFSC RIFs and the Hunger Games in '14-'16. It's hard to say if we're going to go older since the domain is so new. We're shoe-horning it into what the AF knows (Flt-Sq-Grp) but I don't think it's going to last. It's not how we operate (more team/capes focused). This is an area other service models *might* make more sense? Some of our older commanders struggle with the compliance vs. ops mindset. If they'd just split the fucking AFSC we'd have a much easier time.
  21. I agree, but want to point out this is changing as we move from a support function to mission defense and operations role.
  22. I've gotten that feedback from 2 "HPO" 14N Lt Col's, but it might have just been in my corner of the AF.
  23. Pumps got stuck on, huh...that's interesting.
  24. Well...sure. But there's also this: Plus, what he said to/about the 1-stripe Amn is fucking UNSAT for a GO.
  25. If someone with a lot of DOT experience could shoot me a PM I'd appreciate it. I've got some air-breathing ops questions as we build out our cyber training requirements.
