Equating military service with Heroism.
guineapigfury replied to clouseau's topic in General Discussion
I've never understood the above line of argument. We had a draft and it neither prevented the Vietnam War nor kept it short. Children of the connected managed to avoid it. By the way, what the fuck are we going to do with someone on a 2 year enlistment? As soon as they're any good at whatever job they're trained in, they'll be out the door. My guess is they'd end up sweeping parking lots while the volunteers did the real work with the additional burden of writing EPRs for a bunch of disgruntled borderline-useless guys. No thanks. -
Cooperate to graduate (unless planning a political career)

Did somebody say Rob Ford? -
Touche, but I'm disappointed our civilian officials don't know they shouldn't follow orders from a random "Green Beret".

After further googling, here's the relevant law: 18 USC 912: Whoever falsely assumes or pretends to be an officer or employee acting under the authority of the United States or any department, agency or officer thereof, and acts as such, or in such pretended character demands or obtains any money, paper, document, or thing of value, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than three years, or both. There is also the Stolen Valor Act. So you can dress up as a Colonel with 5 Silver Stars as long as you don't try to give orders to people or get them to give you stuff. I'd still argue that impersonating a policeman is worse, because someone impersonating a policeman could do more damage.

I'm pretty sure impersonating a police officer is illegal pretty much everywhere in America. Worst case scenario for a fake veteran is he gets some free beer and an upgrade to first class that he doesn't deserve. Someone impersonating a cop could do real damage.

Deciding if I should follow my boyfriend to UPT
guineapigfury replied to keallyn's topic in Military Spouses
If you're in a good job at the place you'll be staying permanently, giving it up is probably suboptimal. Unless you two are going to get married PRIOR to UPT, stay put. -
I'm a gigolo, spending lots of dough ...

I'll attack from the reciprocal. I have shitty OPRs, no master's and only did SOS in correspondence. I had three strikes against me, now I only have one. How am I supposed to get passed over and kicked out with a fat severance check now? My plan is ruined.

What to do/not do as a new LT (aka how not to be "that LT")
guineapigfury replied to Vice's topic in General Discussion
When you massively fuck-up accept your debrief and don't make it worse. Someone else will fuck up worse and take the heat off of you. -

If you are ever in a situation that is "not for attribution", understand that this means "for attribution". -

I remember this. Most of the guys who were competing for something were all within the margin of error for "Flight Commander's Ranking" or whatever it's officially called. This is where the "don't be a douchebag" technique pays off. It also pays off if you're at the bottom of your T-1 class like I was. I and one other student vied for the lowest ranking with ever escalating checkride buffoonery. I'm not sure which of us was last, but I'm sure we were the last two. I was always on time, stuck with customs and courtesies and took my extensive debriefings without quibbling. The other person ... not so much. You get one guess which one of us was smiling on assignment night.

On the passing out in formation ... locked knees will get you everytime. If it was intentional, I recall Ancient Romans were forced to attend Emperor Nero's musical recitals and plays. They were so bad, people faked heart attacks or going into labor so they would have an excuse to leave. The analogy here is clear. Let me give you every CoC speech I've ever heard: Thank you (insert name of person who just handed over guidon here), this is a big honor. Yadda Yadda Yadda, I couldn't have gotten here without the support of my family (cue kid unable to sit still in front row with frazzled wife staring blankly ahead with attempted Stepford Wife Smile), Yadda Yadda Yadda, hard work to do, yadda yadda yadda, /Returns Salute to new squadron.

Lucky bastard.

Mine was at OTS at their simulated deployed location while I was still an officer trainee. For whatever reason, there were a couple of Army Warrant Officers hanging out. One was literally leaning against a sign that said "No Hat - No Salute Zone", saw me, came to the position of attention and saluted. I of course returned the salute and carried on.
-
Off topic, but one of my friends got a 57 downgrade "good" in T-6s on a particular checkride.

The saddest part of this thread is the poor guy who thinks AFPC would ever take his past performance into account when delivering a future assignment.

I've never understood the aversion to using street names and addresses like the rest of the civilized world. -
Actual RPA UDM here. Yes, RPA crews deploy. Not every squadron deploys people, but the community as a whole does. The amount of volunteers varies by time, squadron and crew position. An LRE deployment is a great experience for a new Lt/Airman. They return with better flying skills, systems knowledge, understanding of datalink architecture, improved situational awareness, and a renewed appreciation for supporting the dudes on the ground. So CCs like to send them after they've built some experience (normally a minimum of a few hundred flight hours). BLOB*: expect one 4month-ish deployment during your first assignment. I've seen a handful of folks on the enlisted side who've been twice or thrice, but in those cases that's spread out over many years. *Bottom Line On Bottom

Sweet. My 78 should keep me safe. Fat Bastard like a boss.

If the CSAF did sign this off at CORONA, then hopefully the intent was to build buy-in amongst his likely successors. If the change sticks, then the delay will have been well worth it.
