Drone Pilots: We Don’t Get No Respect
Not sure what the point of the interview was. Maybe we're looking for some good press before the derpfest commences when Good Kill hits the theaters later this year.

More SARC briefings soon.
Obviously, what's needed in these situations are chaperones. Because I am a gentlemen, scholar, and patriot, I volunteer to keep an eye on all these lesbians kissing and making sexual advances on each other.

Shhhh...Don't talk about the A-10
I think what you're missing is that there isn't an empty A-10 factory just sitting idle, waiting for someone to turn the lights back on. The real solution is to build a new and improved attack aircraft, without an asinine vtol requirement ruining everything.

White Male Club
When I got this training, the "bitch" discussion was also the point where the instructor lost the room. Aircrew gonna aircrew. Our culture has a cruel and nasty side for good reason. We'd lose some of our edge if we gave it up in order to accomodate people who are soft mentally. I think that would be a bad trade.

What's wrong with the Air Force?
I don't think I know anyone who feels bad for the Air Force regarding manning woes. I feel plenty for the airmen who suffer the consequences of moronic decisions made by the Air Force.

Replacement to the T-38
I concur that it wasn't enough flights. Most of the folks in my class hooked a ride or two, mostly for landings. I blame the syllabus and scheduling. I averaged 9 days between flights and sucked at landings. I got to fly thrice in a week and that problem went away. We also spent a lot of our pattern time on "tactical" approaches that I literally never flew again. For every tactical we flew, we could have pulled closed 3-4 times. You could double the number of landings students get prior to their checkride if we dropped the tactical approaches from the syllabus. This was several years ago, maybe things have changed.

Replacement to the T-38
KC-135s had 3 and a check when I went through (and a multitude of sims of course). Does side by side matter? I'd argue that it does. You can't see shit out the other side of a 135. I thought the T-1 was excellent in preparing me for the 135. I can't speak for other airframes. The bigger issue is probably cultural. The last thing any squadron needs is someone who is butthurt about being there. I'm stuck in MQ-9s, so I know of what I speak. T-1s gets you excited about flying heavies, if you weren't already. My T-1 class started with several who didn't want to be there and finished with all but 1 person happy on assignment night. That's not atypical and it certainly isn't nothing. TL;DR: Bubble Canopy mentality gets you beat in heavies, everyone hates RPAs, T-1s go.

Replacement to the T-38
You're right, but I'm convinced it would be cheaper to stay with the split tracks. As a taxpayer, I'd rather pay for dudes to fly ILS's in T1s instead of C17s. I think the relevant question isn't which is better training, but which training is the better buy.

Mustache March
That's probably a more sanitary option than Febushary, Armpit Hair April, or Queeftober.

Gen Welsh - USAF Chief of Staff
Could you enlighten us on that speech? Back on topic: there is probably nothing Welsh can do to fix the RPA manning problem in the short or medium term. Being an RPA pilot sucks, so people with options are going to leave. The options on the civilian side are going to increase. Quality of life for people wearing flightsuits inside shipping containers isn't going to increase any time soon. This problem is going to get alot worse before it gets better.

I will concede my argument is invalid at release if the discussion shifts to snowmobile engines.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
If you're eating MREs for more than a day, you'll need an emoticon thats violently expelling matter from a different orifice. That said, don't whine in front of the other services, they're probably getting their pay docked to pay for those MREs.

Aviation Continuation Pay (ACP - The Bonus)
I fucking hate my job, but a quarter million is significant money. I'd still leave for a good deal contractor job, but that 250k would keep me from jumping to the guard or reserve if those were my best options. If I could have it all upfront, I might even stay on AD instead of promoting myself to the exalted rank of Mister.

Shhhh...Don't talk about the A-10
Also, please explain the T-1 hate. God forbid the USAF buy a modified off the shelf product and use it to provide relevant training at a significantly reduced fuel cost while simultaneously reducing wear and tear on T-38s which are already ancient. With all the current acquisitions buffoonery, shouldn't the Tone be regarded as a rare triumph?

Bloody 'ell... is this place dead!?
Presumably he looted it from the corpse of Walter Mondale, whom he bludgeoned to death with a pillowcase full of 525 electoral votes.

Bloody 'ell... is this place dead!?
That's exactly it. I'm 99.69% sure this varies by base.

Bloody 'ell... is this place dead!?
I can view these forums from work, but cannot log in to post. I suspect that's widespread and is affecting the baseline level of activity here, especially during the week.

There is an excellent white paper on this topic. I'll look for it the next time I'm at work.

Personal Choice & Officer Assignments
I think the solution is simple*. Designate your bases that are generally considered as undesirable as such, and people who go there get a controlled tour with either a bonus or base of preference afterwards. *Everything in war is simple, but the simplest things are difficult. - Clausewitz
