  1. Duck: Disclaimer: I wouldn't recommend what you're doing, but you've obviously put thought into this and you didn't ask for opinions; I'll stop here. 1) Technically, the promotion system is setup for this to be hidden from your leadership. Reality: there's a chance your leadership finds out after the fact from the O-6 network (your letter will be talked about). Just thought of this: I don't know if your leadership can see your PRDA to see your as met records after the fact (anyone?). 2) I would recommend telling your most trusted leader in your chain of command who will understand and be your advocate to the other haters. You do NOT want your chain finding out about this through other channels (again, this letter of yours will be talked about). Even if you don't have a trusted leader in your chain, I'd still tell someone and let them know you wanted to tell them yourself. I pray you're able to support your family in a way that best meets their needs.

  2. PC isn't decided at the base. We've had folks get non-concurred all the way up and then approved PC of over a year.

  3. Could you just apply for Misc Sep and cite the family issues and your commitment to the Guard? I've seen that get approved for guys with 18 months left at separation time. May or may not work, but it's way less likely to burn anything down in the way out.

  4. You don't have to accept continuation if it is offered. If continuation is offered, it only means that you don't get separation pay on the way out.

  5. Those were also the days without good targeting pods. If we use that example, it should be raining Preds and Reapers as they get shot from the sky

  6. According to wikipedia A-29s cost $14 mil, and Scorpions cost under $20 mil. AT-6s even less. Let's say we wanted 25 jets per squadron at $20 mil per. That's a half billion per squadron. We could outfit 5 squadrons (4 combat coded + 1 FTU) for $2.5 billion. That's approximately what we spent per WEEK on the Iraq war at it's peak. If we really wanted to do this, we would find a way.

  7. We do not know what the next war looks like. We never do. It's why we have aircraft designed to be supersonic low level bombers and day-VFR air defense fighters doing low intensity CAS being led by generals who grew up thinking killing migs was the primary mission. Meanwhile after doing years of low of intensity CAS, we want to retire the jet that does it best and do it instead with a jet that costs 5x as much designed to fight the wars how we thought they'd look in 1996 when said aircraft was designed. But instead of buying planes for fighting the current war and know at likely future war (because that's a waste), we are procuring a new stealth bomber and upgrading our nukes. Priority problems? Anyone?

  8. In the meantime, if you're like me and have a bookmark to BODN, you can do this: Click the arrow by My Activity Streams, Create New Stream Under Content Types, Topics, and click the settings. Narrow by Forums, choose the forums you want to see in your New Content window. Maybe you choose to not click Military Spouses. Or JQP. Choose the other settings to display your forum feed how you like. Oldest First, Newest First, First Unread, etc. You can bookmark that stream so it's your new BODN homepage.

  9. Shame on all of you for not asking for pictures first! Have you not learned anything since being here?

  10. Ned, however much the Trump campaign is paying you to copy/paste your tea party emails... I'll double it, if you promise to never post about politics again. We've got issues that go far beyond any politician/candidate, whether they're wearing a chairman Mao pantsuit or a terrible hairpiece and a Rolex.

  11. If you have a desirable package, you should consider applying to F-15 units, you might have more luck. Trying sending them an email with pictures of said package. Sent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk

  12. The first couple classes of us that got UPT direct are rather savvy on the AF bs. There is a pretty general concensus that we will do the job asked of us to the best of our ability, but sucking the blue D and volunteering for shit deals for hope of a jet latter is not something most of us are not willing to do. We already got the rug yanked once and know this could very well be a empty promise. Especially with nothing paper. We we heard the recat rumors as well. As discussed earlier in the thread, seems like manning should be better in the RPA world in the next 2 years. With the manned pilot shortage continuing in a tailspin hopefully it will allow us to get out. Key to success is to get back manned before 2019 when all the 18x guys start punching. I would expect less than 5% of them to stay leaving us right back in the current RPA manning shit show.

  13. My lawyer was a Lt Col in the Army JAG. She knew about these women who latch on to military guys and sap them dry. She also knew all the ins and outs of military divorces--best decision I made, next to divorcing my ex.

  14. Better yet, get them to a trusted friend's place so she cannot say that you used one to threaten her. I've done this for a few guys to help them out.

  15. Realize that your PCS can be delayed or turned off at your request and if approved. You don't have to do this from a distance. AFI 36-2110, Humanitarian Assignment. A24.7.9. Threatened separation, divorce action, or the desire to pursue child custody. Talk to 1st Sgt or CC if you so desire....

  16. CB: Lawyer up and don't loose your SA, easy to have your buttons pushed and spiral. Was in your shoes 12 years ago, mine was more emotional from the sound of your original email. Best advice I got was from a fellow NFO that had a real rough "Big D"... there is a business side and an emotional side to a divorce. Don't let the two cross. Making business decisions when your emotions are spooling is a recipe for trouble. It could be a tough road (roller coaster is a better term), but you have to realize when the two are starting to mix. Best to stop, reset and try again with a clear head. Take the high road, CYA, and set the example for your kids. I took the offensive and drove the situation best I could (got the lawyer first, suggested amicable terms...things like that), which helped me in my situation. Watch your POA if you have one... one of my buds was burnt by that (we were stuck on the boat and limited comms...lot of damage was done before it was finished and fixed). One thing I distinctly remember from my "Big D", a lot of those around me had gone through it and I had no idea. When the word got out, damn if there weren't a bunch of guys circling the wagons to help me out. They made themselves available for comments and questions (or bitching) I had. All the best with your situation. Collin Edited because the font looked larger after a sip or two of Vincent Van Gough Double Espresso Coffee Flavored Vodka (highy recommended).

  17. I would say, speak softly and carry a big stick. It's great that you want to mediate, but you also need to cover your ass and go talk to a GOOD lawyer (one who can be either reasonable or ruthless if you need them to be). Having a nuke in your arsenal will go a long way towards ensuring an amicable split if it comes to that. Speaking from the experience of others around me, not personally. Again, name of the game is CYA. Just talking to a guy shouldn't cost you anything.
