  1. Oh dear Jesus, repealing the tab/morale patch and t-shirt rules would completely piss the E-9 + 1st Sgts community off!

  2. Hell, I was a member of the enlisted corps, and I agree with you. Was never closer to being a pilot or aircrew than kicking chocks, but we've lost so much heritage due to self-inflicted political correctness as an Air Force, that perhaps this is just a bit of an opportunity to push back a little, so I'm in. I've lucked into a pretty good group of friends, who are way above my station, that flew between the 60's and the 90's that I've forwarded the Colonel's message to. Hopefully he'll be able to put together a package that will, if nothing else, send a message that gets heard.

  3. No, the AF may drop you in an instant if they feel like it. If you were to leave tomorrow, do you think Big Blue would screech to a halt? Probably not. The wheel will keep on spinning. However, after 20 years if your then ex-wife hates you and your kids barely know you, what have you really gained? Service before self? You bet. Service before my kids? To a point.

  5. I'm on the verge of saying enough...enough with pushing phony OPRs and awards packages, enough with uniform changes, enough with force shaping, enough with deployments, enough with TDYs (my several TDY's to Nellis are OK), enough with forced community service and frankly enough of big blue capitalizing on my patriotism and my pride to make me work long hours on stuff that just doesn't matter. I'm up for my primary board next year, but was told bluntly that I have little chance of getting a DP. Although I have IDE and a BS masters complete without the DP I'm doubtful of my chances. I'd always planned on retiring but with the selective continuation fiasco of this year that isn't really a guarantee either. I readily admit I have put myself in this position because of assignment choices I made when I was a Lt/Capt and medical stuff that kept me out of the jet at key times in my career. The wife just got a great job and I just got a crap-can assignment...we were thinking that we'd separate the family, let her get in with her company and allow me to see if the promotion came along. AFPC's offering will not make being away from the family easy...its across the country and will likely involve multiple (if short) deployments. I am about ready to throw in the towel and seven day opt out of this assignment. I'm a Nav so I don't have instant employment options but we could get by on the wife's salary while I figure it out and play Mr Mom. Reserves and guard are an option I would readily take and have the feelers out there... Am I off my GD rocker here?

  6. Slilock, if you were to actually spend some time around the USMC (instead of coming on here and running your mouth about things you know nothing about), you would know that NCOs in that service police their own, just like Rainman is saying. There should be no need for officers to get involved.

  7. Absolutely. Most individuals have done HPA in the past and had to front $3000 (VA would only pay for 50-60%). And for those of us in the Guard/Reserve who have burned past benefits and need to tally up how much they have left and subsequently qualify for, read this little gem (which is another very important bit of info buried in the system). I've been down this road, so feel free to ask for more advice. http://www.afrc.af.mil/library/post-911-gi-bill.asp

  8. I hate to ever say anything bad about the enlisted corps, but someone needs to put these clowns in their place. O-1 > E-9 for a reason. I think the Air Force would be much better off if we just payed sergeants more, but stopped the payscale at E-7.

  9. Simply put. I couldn't have said it better. I'm out in 3 yrs if they pass this clown-act of a bill. ZERO incentive to put the family through this....especially if the airlines are hiring.

  11. I find it hilarious that you guys still don't realize that you are getting stabbed in the back by your own community. About half of your "bros" that talk a good game right now are going to promote and then use their new found power to impose "shoe" rules on you. You guys keep referencing this aircrew versus the world situation...but in reality you are eating your own. In the CE world, our SNCOs always greet these new policies with a "I guess now they expect us to enforce this bullshit, too" attitude. I expect that is true in the MX world and about half of the support world. The reality is that everybody in the Air Force works for a pilot. It is in your hands to change it. Stop bitching and do something about it. Please, for the rest of us that will never have any real power. If some pilot O-9 out there put his foot down on uniform regs, they would change. If some O-6 flyer said that the "Home of the Fighter Pilot" sign at Nellis will stay up, it will stay up. Trust me. I'll take all of the negative ratings as a reflection of how close to home this hits.

  12. What is essentially a reserve retirement for a full active duty ration of BS? No thanks.

  13. I think Rated Officers should act like Officers all the time, instead of whenever it benefits them. I agree with what you're saying, however you can point the finger right at yourself and upper level Commanders who allow Enlisted personnel to get away disrespect.

  14. You can toss the "Technical Expert" term Old Man, shoulda/coulda/woulda been a Warrant. Flyers get pissy with queep shit done or said by Shoes, but will rarely do or act against a disrespectful Enlisted person for fear of getting talked to by a higher ranking Shoe O. I expect Officers period to act like Officers and lead. Confused? Go talk to the USMC, their O's seem understand that ideology, even their flyers. NCO's have better things to do (I.e. making the military run) instead of making uniform corrections you're too to make yourself.
