Breadth is not always a good thing, in fact most here would be very hesitant to agree to this “cross-pollination” of sorts. Phoenix Mobility in AMC (where airlift guys fly tankers and vice versa) has been a disaster. Both the airlift and tanker communities have ended up with careerist toads who have no idea what they are doing. This isn’t to say that knowledge of other career fields isn’t critical as a strategic leader; but the depth and knowledge of being an expert in your career set goes a long way in developing a credible combat leader. Another hesitation is the creation of the HPO “high potential officer” caste. I believe the Air Force has been doing away with this concept, and rightfully so. For instance, we no longer have school selects. There is no way of knowing whether someone as a Captain would be a good strategic leader. The HPO lists, and believe me, they are out there, have created a class of untouchable “rising stars” regardless of performance while ignoring potentially strong leaders that didn’t fit a certain mold.

Merry Christmas you filthy animals. A mod should probably move this conversation to the Cyber thread, but I'll give my brief thoughts here, then expand there if moved. No, cyber should not be a separate service right now. Probably not for another decade. Most of the Sr Leaders are former Comm-O's who jerk themselves off about being operators, without instilling operational discipline in their units. You ever have a flying Grp/Sq CC not do what was ordered by an operational CC/NAF and not get kicked in the dick? Happens all the time in Cyber. I will say Ops is Ops, and a Ops minded cyber-bro should be able to figure out how to plan/lead a conventional mission, just the same for a flier planning a cyber mission. I've watched Wedge do it, it's about enabling the team...not the individual. Cyber is very much a team sport. As is now, Offensive/Defensive Cyber as a SOCOM like force makes most sense. DoDIN-Ops (AFNET) needs to die in a fire. Our cybersecurity is both better (AF operators) and worse (PMO's, acquisitions) than you'd think. Most younger cyber guys thinks it needs to be a separate force, most older don't seem to care. There's a good band of us around the '07-'11 year groups that see it the way I mentioned above.

Jeeeezus.....but at least we know where you stand. 1) BAH should be the same. Increase all rates to th w/dependent amounts and be done with it. 2) BAH has always been this way. Comparing to other jobs is irrelevant. Name another job that forces fathers to go and die in their country’s wars. Incentive pays to keep fathers (and mothers) in the fight longer. Otherwise we are just sending our single men (and women) to die. Yes, I realize war isn’t the same nowadays. 3) BAH is pennies. That Congress is willing to screw with pennies while billions are wasted elsewhere under corrupt circumstances is telling. 4) You can quit the line of BS that married don’t carry their weight. Not sure what your life and professional experience has been but with some exceptions I’m willing to bet that most married men and women do their equal share. If you have experienced otherwise I’m sorry. But like I said before there are enough times where I’ve covered for singles at high personal cost that I basically don’t agree with your complaint.

It's one thing as a single guy to volunteer to take bad deals so married people can be home for life events, it's another thing when the scheduler puts you on the bad deal without asking because "it doesn't matter if you miss Thanksgiving/Christmas/holiday/weekends because you're single, so you're on the trip/deployment/alert"

looks like they got a hundred different bad ideas to herd lots of new pilots into the same broken organization but they have only a few to keep them. apparently neck and back preventative care is one of their best ideas. funny how many of the common grievances are simply ignored. the answers have been shouted at their faces for years and they refuse to acknowledge them. let the whole thing rot.

Moderator....If needed you can delete. Quick introduction. I'm a retired RJ pilot working as a civilian for AFGSC. My job #2 is an embroidery business that I work at night. Lately I've transitioned to making more and more nametags. I primarily make nametags for AFGSC bases (Minot, Whiteman, Barksdale, Malmstrom) but also make nametags for a few other bases. I've been flying under Mardon's radar and they probably haven't noticed I've been slowly building my nametag business. If you know any of the Snackos at AFGSC bases I'm sure they'd give glowing reviews of my quality and timeliness. If you need references I could provide them. Mostly though, the Snackos and RAs I work with just email me with their nametag requirments ( myfinishingtouch@gmail.com) rather than going through my website. My pricing is simple: $11 if your order a single nametag or $7.50 each when ordering more than one. Shipping is $1.50 per set of two and is capped at $6.00. Mardon closing is scary to me. I hate that their Friday logo designs and squadron colors are potentially lost. My biggest struggle when pulling in a new squadron is getting the material/thread colors close to what Mardon uses. If I knew where Mardon bought their supplies it'd be easy but I asked them years ago and understandably they laughed at me on the phone. My wings are much superior to Mardon's wings and the overall feel of my nametags is much better. You'd expect me to say this but I have Mardon nametags from flying the RJ prior to my retirement so I can make a direct comparison and my customers agree.
