Hello All, I am looking for some clarification and possibly recommendations on the process I should take. Starting with where I am at: I am turning 29 in December I am on track to graduate with a bachelors in Business Management in July of 2021 (if I keep it up with a 4.0 GPA) Studying my a** off for the AFOQT as well as trying to hone TBAS skills, exam scheduled 2nd week of October. I have about 15 flight hours, gaining at about 5/week and hoping to be in the 41-60 slot by November (weather permitting, lots of smoke in CA creating lots of IFR) I originally swore into an enlisted reserve position, however, I never shippe…

Hello there everybody, figured I'd do the same as most people on here and throw out my numbers to get some feedback since the AD board is in January. Little bit about myself, currently 26 and been in the guard since I turned 18, coming up on 8 years next month. Now you all are probably going to laugh, but hell I am too, I'm probably the only case you've seen of an enlisted Security Forces troop trying to jump in a plane, but I think I may just have the numbers to do it. GPA: 3.13 AFOQT: 92 Pilot, 86 Nav, 85 Acad, 98 Verb, 60 Quant PCSM: 62 because I have a whopping goose egg when it comes to real life seat time, however my "prospective" score as I keep seei…

Hello everybody, I am 28year old male, NOT from United States, currently studying military program specialty in avionics, I have just started third year of five year study program ending in Master's degree. I was selected in green card lottery and I have been seriously thinking about leaving military, emigrating to US, joining Air Force, getting citizenship and completing degree in US using credits from my current studies, this could probably happen in about 4 years and by then i should be around 32-33 years old when trying to apply for OTS and UPT. I know most of people want fighters, i am no different, but i just can't live without atleast trying and ho…

1. Have to go to work in a few hours so, no, not drunk. 2. Posting here, because this is where the target audience is. 3. 20y ago, I was a casual 2Lt waiting to start UPT. 4. -->On reflection, based on a totality of factors, I was dreadfully under-qualified. But somehow, I was there. 5. Pretty sure I blasted Eminem's Lose Yourself every morning driving in from base housing to the squadron, well into Phase 2. Seriously, if you're browsing this forum, my advice is to fight like hell: it's totally worth it!

Hi, I'm currently a sophomore at USAFA who just completed Basic Soaring. I am horrible at flying gliders, after 9 sorties I can not get takeoff, aerotow, or landing without the IP taking it. All of these were graded as hooks. On sorties 7 and 8, I flew with the cadet soaring commander who said my problem was being passive aggressive and letting the glider fly me. My application to be a soaring IP is very good; it's just flying ability which may hold me back. Does this information show that I don't have what it takes to be a pilot of a powered plane?

Where do you all think I stand? How competitive am …

Hello all. I just got back my AFOQT results, and I'm pretty proud. Pilot: 99 Nav: 99 AA: 98 Verb: 97 Quant: 96 The catch is my college GPA was 2.6, but it is in engineering and from the #3 program in the nation. I'm also unemployed due to layoffs last year, but I spent 5 years managing up to 50 people at a time. I have my PPL, but I only have about 60 hours. The rest of my packet is 4 Letters of Rec: 1) Former Col. of the Base I'm applying who happened to be my PPL flight examiner 2) My CFI 3) My supervisor from my old job. 4) An Ex-Marine who worked w/ me at my old job as a consultant. Hey everyone, Hoping to get some input on what my chances are for a fighter unit. Started college a few years back but never finished due to running my own business. Finishing now at WGU in computer science just to fulfill degree requirement. Here’s my basic info Pilot: 99 PCSM: 99 GPA: Will be 3.0 PPL with 110hrs Past couple years I’ve been a professional racing driver and running my own business. Really hoping to get into a fighter unit, I know my GPA isn’t great and a degree from WGU might not be favorable but it’s the fastest way I can get a degree since I’m 27. Has anyone gotten a slot with a degree from WGU or another online schoo…

After some inspirational reading from @FDNYOldGuy and the fact that my desire to both fly and serve grows larger each day I ended up knocking out the AFOQT/TBAS and graduate from lurker status to member here. This is an incredible site but I wanted to make sure I was even in the ballpark of qualified before filling up another "old guy" thread as I am 34. PCSM: 99 AFOQT: 99/93/86/92/70 PPL w/ Instrument: 250 hours GPA: 3.43 in Finance FAA First Class Medical. Good physical shape. I am currently a VP in sales/development for a medical device company. I'm hoping that background proves I am capable of taking on work and leading teams. My g…

I got a pilot score 71 on the AFOQT mainly due to my low scores on the math portion of the test. All the actual flying and orientation stuff I knew and it came easily. After taking the TBAS, my PCSM score is only a 65 with 82 hours of flying time. If I get it up to 101 hours my score will come up to a 69. I'm trying to get a reserve slot flying C-17s,130s ect but will take anything provided its not a drone! My instructor is a ex. KC-135 pilot and says I'm an excellent pilot. In college I did ok, I have a degree in Business Management with a 3.1 GPA overall and a 3.9 in my major(math scores killed my overall) So what are my chances of getting a slot? Thanks, David

I need some realistic advice. I'm 26, and my College GPA matches that (2.6). Nothing I can do about that. Short explaination: I worked several jobs/owned a business (wedding photography) and plain just didn't know what I wanted to do with my life. I haven't taken the AFOQT yet (will in May), but I did take the ASTB (Active Duty US Navy Selection Test; for those unfamiliar), and got the "minimum" scores needed to move forward with the process. My real goal is the ANG or AFR, one of the points with taking the ASTB was to get Military testing experience (however, I am still hoping to get picked up for Navy Active Duty). In speaking with an USAF Officer recruiter, he sai…

I'm one year out from graduating at this point, so I can start the process. Do I have a shot at any non-UAV pilot slot? Heck, I'll go for fighter just like anyone else but I think I wouldn't be completely bummed if I got to fly in anything with wings. Should I just go for reserves so I know where I'm headed exactly, or active-duty for the best chances? Once I take a flight physical and ensure I can qualify, I was considering getting a PPL if that would help. Big investment though so want to be sure I have a chance. Also, wrong section but, I feel like my eyes are on the borderline for acceptable at 2.75 (20/200)... unless there's waivers... is it possible to get Lasik as a civilian now or is it still only available with a USAF surgeon? …

I've been trying since January to take the AFOQT. I have the study guides, I've taking the online practice tests, etc. But I can't seem to get anyone body to let me physically take the test! The threads I read on here say to contact your look AFROTC Detachment. I did and they told me they only allow non-cadets to take it once in the fall during the beginning of the semester. Only cadets can take it any time. I've gone to almost every Air Force recruiting office in my metro area to try and schedule a date to take the test. All of them say you have to be putting together an officer packet before they let me take the test and I don't have enough college credits to start putt…

Sometimes looking at these threads can be discouraging. It seems like nearly everyones scores are 90+ across the board, stellar GPAs, etc... Well heres some hope from an average joe who was just picked up by a heavy unit... Here is my AFOQT Super Score P:82 CSO: 61 ABM:63 ACAD: 31 Verb: 51 Quant: 20 PCSM:85 My point here is that its possible, even if your scores aren't amazing, you may just have to work a little bit harder. You NEED to network with someone at the squadron you want to attend, preferably someone within the hiring process or that has a good relationship with someone in the process. You will likely never get selected for an interview with po…
