Age: 28 (will be 28.5 in October 2018) AFOQT: 1st Try: 82 Pilot / 72 Nav / 64 Acad Apt / 83 Verb / 45 Quant TBAS: 2nd Try: 68 (up to 92 at 201+ hours; currently at 21 hours) LORs: 1 Retired Air Force pilot, 2 College Professors, 2 Former Employers GPA: 3.63 (Dual B.A.'s from Virginia Tech) I applied active duty USAF as pilot only in 2016 and was not selected. I have been applying to ANG fighter units with no luck. Now the Army is offering me a scholarship to get my master's as long as I do it before I turn 31. I think I'd rather have a non-flying Army job than Air Force. My options: 1. Go to Florida State University and do Army ROTC. Upsides are tha…

I am a 26 year old Active Duty F-15 Crew Chief stationed at Langley with 4 1/2 years of service, 10 classes left toward my Pro Aero degree at Embry-Riddle, and 12 flight hours. I am also currently working toward A&P certification, and will complete my PPL prior to December. I will complete my degree May 2006, three months prior to the end of my enlistment. I will take the AFOQT and the BAT some time after I test for SSgt in May. OK, so here's the bad stuff. Three and a half years ago I was arrested on Elmendorf AFB and charged with DUI on my way home to the dorms. I received an Article 15 and a reduction in pay grade. I completed the Alcohol and Drug Preventi…

If someone has the time to give some advice, it will be greatly appreciated. Currently a civilian with no military experience. I started a business at 22 years old and used it as a means to an end for getting my bachelors in mechanical engineering from Auburn. Worked my way through school doing manual labor with my business and my grades aren't the best, but I graduated debt free. No stranger to hard work and perseverance, so this UPT seems the right fit. Currently trying to get my application in for AD and one guard unit before the new year. I take the TBAS Friday and took the AFOQT last month. From what I know I just need a flight physical and all my i's dotted and t's …

Hello, I have started this thread in an attempt to get in touch with any AF member either enlisted, pilot, recruiter, or any officer that would be willing to discuss with me my background and my chances of being offered a UPT slot. I will not sugar coat my past and will present a comprehensive background of myself, including the strong parts of my application. I don't think it would be smart to post this all on a public forum so I would prefer to communicate through PM. Since I do not know which members I should PM, I would ask that anyone willing to listen and offer their opinion please send me a PM and I will respond asap. Thank you very much. -Arrow

Hello everyone! After months of delay due to COVID, I was able to take the TBAS and complete my application packet. I am absolutely thrilled to be sending out my first application packet tomorrow but I would love some feedback on my scores, chances, and anything I can improve on that would help me land an interview. I recently turned 23 and graduated with a 3.36 gpa in B.S. in Political Science from TCU! (Go Frogs). In school I founded and presided over TCU's first ever aviation club called the "Flying Frogs." I was also involved in Model UN and won numerous awards from conferences. On another note, while pursuing a healthier and happier lifestyle I was blessed with …

Hello all. I just got back my AFOQT results, and I'm pretty proud. Pilot: 99 Nav: 99 AA: 98 Verb: 97 Quant: 96 The catch is my college GPA was 2.6, but it is in engineering and from the #3 program in the nation. I'm also unemployed due to layoffs last year, but I spent 5 years managing up to 50 people at a time. I have my PPL, but I only have about 60 hours. The rest of my packet is 4 Letters of Rec: 1) Former Col. of the Base I'm applying who happened to be my PPL flight examiner 2) My CFI 3) My supervisor from my old job. 4) An Ex-Marine who worked w/ me at my old job as a consultant. I'm taking the TBAS nex…

I have tried to do everything I can to make myself a good candidate for UPT, as being an AF pilot has always been my dream. I think I did alright with all of it except for some of my AFOQT scores. I have been invited to interview at 2 units (wasn't selected), but have been passed over by the last 3 I have applied to, and I'm getting a little beaten down. I have been visiting the units i'm applying to for meet and greets and a drill or two if I can, and I feel like they go well. I'm a crew chief in the guard now and about a month away from 28 years old. What are my chances? Also, any advise is always welcome. I watch GuardReserveJobs and BogiDope for job announcements, if …

Hello all, I'm looking to like to apply for various pilot slots in near future. I have no military experience, although I have several contacts who do. AFOQT Scores: Pilot: 80 | Nav: 96 | Acad Apt: 87 | Verbal: 63 | Quant: 96 PCSM Score: 38 (No Flight Time) Age: 26 GPA / Major: 3.70 / Mechanical Engineering LOR: USCG Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class, Former Supervisor, Personal friend from college. Prof Experience: 1.5yrs I'm looking at starting my PPL next month, and retaking the TBAS (felt like I could definitely improve). Besides that any general recommendations? I'd actually prefer to fly heavies, and I'm open to ANG, Reserves, or AD…

My AFOQT scores are as follows: 84 Pilot, 85 Nav, 67 Acad Apt, 62 Verbal, 67 Quant I don't have a PCSM score yet, but I also have no flight hours. I will be taking the TBAS beginning of June, and I hear without flight hours, the best you can do on a PCSM score is 70. So other things being constant, and considering my pilot score, if I ace the TBAS, the best I could feasibly do is about a 64 PCSM, give or take. GPA: Currently 3.38, but I'm projecting close to a 3.5 by graduation in end of August, with a B.A.A.S. in Technical Management I am 34 years old, I'm also an enlisted E-5, have close to 6 years active, and another 5 reserve/guard, been an F-16 A…

I do not use drugs recreationally. I do not agree with them. I have known Adderall is a drug that is prescribed for ADD, ADHD and so on... Right now I’m a senior in high school and currently in a intense curriculum program and working around 30 hours a week. In order to keep up with school I have used Adderall around once a week to every other week. I am not prescribed Adderall and I have never used it for anything else other than to complete school work. Even though that probably doesn’t matter. How does the Air Force look at this? What are my chances of becoming a helo pilot? Other than this case I have never used any drugs that were not prescribed to me.

Age: 24 GPA: 2.85 Information Technology AFOQT: 98P / 99N / 84AA / 80V / 79Q PCSM: 75 with 0 flight hours. I am currently getting a few hours and will update my PCSM soon with 11 hours which will push it to 87. 4 LOR’s: 1 from my university programming professor, 2 from my current and former manager, and one from a retired O-5 AF Pilot. I am a civilian with no prior military experience. With my GPA, basically I was a knucklehead when I started college and did poorly; I lacked focus. Ended up temporarily quitting school in 2013 with a 1.5 GPA. I got married in 2015 and went back to school and busted my butt. I’ll graduate in May next year an…

Well guys, I took the AFOQT for the second time and here are the results: Pilot 57, Navigator 49, Acad Aptitude 35, Verbal 64, Quantitative 16. PCSM 58. In other words, they suck. I still can take the TBAS one more time. My worry is going up against guys with scores in the 90s. Depending on how much weight the unit puts into the scores, I doubt I'll even get an interview. What say you guys? Quick recap of life experience: Undergrad in Justice Studies with a 3.8 GPA, Masters in Justice Administration with a 3.9 GPA, Operations Manager for an online Firearms company for the past 6 years, PPL with a bit over 100hrs, fly right seat in company aircraft, volunteer work with the…

I've read through a ton of older threads on here. Maybe I've read to much that I've jumped the gun and confused myself. So older threads on here I found my 2008 or so, say the way to start the hiring process is by rushing a unit. I'm suppose to call a unit, ask for the pilot's ops desk and schedule a visit. I also fill out a packet and send it to the unit. If they like me they call me to the hiring board. When I call units one of two things happen. Either A they don't know what I am talking about or B. They redirect to a voicemail box that is either full or I leave a message and never hear back. The units that say they don't know what I am talking about nev…

Hello all, I am interested in becoming a pilot for the USAF and looking to apply in the near future. I am 19 years old. I will graduate college next spring with my 4 year degree in Aviation Flight Science from Western Michigan, current GPA is about 3.5(think I can get it up to 3.7 by the end). I have my Private Pilot's License, Instrument rating, commercial license, and will soon have my multi and CFI. I have 150 hours of flight time. I have not taken TBAS or AFOQT, so I do not have a PCSM score for you guys. I have absolutely no criminal record or anything like that. I'm a healthy individual that is in decent shape. I currently hold a First class medical, I have had ver…

Hello all, It’s been a dream of mine to fly and serve my country. Both my parents were special ops in the Air Force, one retired. I’ve grown up around the military lifestyle and have learned a lot through that time. I’m wanting to serve in any branch that will take me for a pilot slot preferably fixed wing, no helos. Here’s where I’m at. - 24 years old with a B.S degree in business administration with a focus in logistics, 3.7 gpa. - ~18hrs towards my PPL with a solo. About to do my cross country. Hours will go up weekly, every two weeks money depending. - 3 LOR’s, retired AF pilot, Store director (work), and executive (work). - No test scores yet. Been stud…

After some inspirational reading from @FDNYOldGuy and the fact that my desire to both fly and serve grows larger each day I ended up knocking out the AFOQT/TBAS and graduate from lurker status to member here. This is an incredible site but I wanted to make sure I was even in the ballpark of qualified before filling up another "old guy" thread as I am 34. PCSM: 99 AFOQT: 99/93/86/92/70 PPL w/ Instrument: 250 hours GPA: 3.43 in Finance FAA First Class Medical. Good physical shape. I am currently a VP in sales/development for a medical device company. I'm hoping that background proves I am capable of taking on work and leading teams. My g…

In 4 years of applying I have had 1 interview. My scores are good, GPA is good, LOR's are good, PPL etc. My problem is that I will need waivers/ETP's for medical, moral, and now age standards. I've been trouble free for 7 years now, but I've been arrested 5 times in my teens and again when I was 21. One of the arrests resulted in felony charges, and 2 arrests resulted in misdemeanors. The other 3 arrests I was released without charges. I have not been convicted of anything since I either did community service or my lawyer got the case dismissed. I also have 10 traffic violations but all of those were taken care of with drivers safety school. I was on med…

Greetings, Is it possible to go through Navy OTS and pilot training, do 2-5 years of active duty, than transfer to an Airforce ANG unit before the obligation period? If possible, is it looked down upon? I read here that transferring from one service to another is possible - , however I assume that's after one's commitment period?

What's up everybody! Long time lurker, first time poster. I'm a former AD KC-135 Boom Operator that has been working to get a spot for UPT anywhere and on any airplane! I obviously feel like I'd be a good fit at a tanker squadron since I know the drill but I am open to serving once again anyway and anywhere I can. Here are some of my scores: Age: 32! I don't feel THAT old... KC-135 Boom Operator, MacDill AFB Pilot: 90 PCSM: 89 Bachelor's of Business Admin 3.1 MBA 4.0 Commercial Pilot License; ASEL; Instrument Airplane 295 Total Time LOR's Major - KC-135 Pilot, Reserves Captain - KC-135 Pilot, Current AD T6 IP Lt. - KC…

Hey all, Figured I'd at least give a brief introduction and leave my information open for feedback, as well as, an opportunity for others to get a sense of their chances if I get picked up.
