Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves

ANG & AFRES discussion area. Bums can search for flying opportunities with other units.

  1. Started by Nineline,

Does anyone have any info on the stipulations for the ANG/AFRC ACP bonus? I tried searching with no luck. -9-

So, the shortage seems to be here. Our unit just got tagged for a bunch of CENTCOM lines and only about 50% of our people are volunteering. It doesn't help that AD pulled all of our MPA and Alert leaving us with nothing to feed our bums on a regular basis. There are quite a few "F*ck the AD, make them mobilize me." protesters, along with newly hired airline dudes (congrats y'all!). Squadron leadership is now mulling individual mobilizations. My question is this. What are the legalities of mobilizing a guardsman? I thought they needed the Governor or the Congress to approve this. They are making it sound like the Wing/CC can do it. Where would you find the reg…

Herk Operators, Since the baseops job board seems to have s- itself recently I'll post here. As of Oct 1st 2013, the 189th at LRAFB has been in charge of all C-130 Legacy FTU training in addition to the legacy instructor school. With this expansion we have had a restructuring of our manning document and have created many new DSG positions. Currently we have 11 DSG spots sitting empty. We are looking to hire C-130 IPs, but could entertain getting an AC some upgrade training if he/she we a good dude/dudette. While not guaranteed, most of these new hires could be looking at potential full time employment within a few years. This is also a good environment for an ai…

Just wondering if any ANG techs could answer a few questions. 1. Is the guard on the GS system still or do they use the new pay-band stuff? 2. Are instructor pilots automatically a GS-13? 3. How do the steps work, are you automatically step 1 when you get hired? 4. When/if I buy back my active duty time towards a federal retirement, does that also affect what step I am on? Thanks guys...

  6. Philadelphia Is Looking for a Few Good Gentlemen Deployments Thin Ranks of Unit That Has Lured Blue Bloods Since 1774 By Michael M. Phillips Updated Oct. 15, 2014 6:31 p.m. ET PHILADELPHIA— Gregg Connell ’s enlistment into his National Guard cavalry unit went like this: Already well-lubricated at the armory bar, members of the troop passed around a wooden box. Those who wanted to accept Spc. Connell dropped in white marbles. Those opposed, black marbles. White marbles outnumbering black, Spc. Connell was summoned into the armory’s mess hall, where, beneath oil paintings of bewhiskered men in silver-buttoned tunics and helmets topped with bearskin cr…

Has anyone's unit put out protocols for flying into Africa on an Air Force mission? I know there are protocols for preparation and execution; I am referring to post mission. 1. Informing your civilian employer. Is it only if you visit the Hot3 countries or all of West Africa/bordering countries? What if they ground you for 21 days, will the USAF pay you for 21days? 2. If you fly international for your Civilian carrier, and check "yes" on a countries immigration form to the "west Africa in past 30 days" question, are you putting yourself at risk for quarantine and trip removal? 3. If back in civilian status and develop symptoms, will the USAF pay your medical cost…

Hello, I am looking for anyone who has some knowledge on this certain topic. I am very interested in flying within an Air National Guard unit. I am looking into enlisting within a unit because I know it will increase my chances for an interview and possibly being selected within the unit I join. I recently graduated college this year with a BS degree. I am also looking at applying for an officer position within the unit. I have been told that it is harder to be selected for a UPT slot from being an officer already due to the "commitment I would have within the unit already," and what the unit would have already invested in me if I was chosen for an officer position…

So my guard gig is getting ready to expire due to a unit mission change. I've been hunting for a guard/reserve position close to where I'm living. I've traded emails with the DO of a range ops det, and he's interested in having some IMA support, but currently doesn't have any open positions. He mentioned that he's not really up to speed on getting reserve support. I'm going to get in touch with the IMA coordinator at ARPC (not sure if that's what the position is really called) for this region to see what's what. Have any of you heard of or personally had any success in facilitating the creation of a position, and subsequently filling it? I'm pretty ignorant of…

  11. Hello, If you want to take advantage of VSP, we are here for you. Check out the wonderful and wild job opportunities in the WVANG. If you are a 11MXX and need someplace warm. A place where the beer flows like wine. Where beautiful women instinctively flock like the salmon of Capistrano. I'm talking about a little place called Martinsburg. We are sending C-5s to the boneyard and opening our great big hangers to a bunch of C-17s. All you have to do is call DSN 242-5043, or 304-616-5043. Ask for Drew or Pete. We are conveniently located within a 1.5 hour drive of IAD, DCA, and BWI if for some reason you wanted to be close to those airports. Paradise is a phone cal…

Hello everyone, Currently I am a junior in college majoring in mechanical engineering with a few questions with regard to jobs outside of the guard. I have been searching through a lot of threads and haven't seen anything on the topic so I figured I'd ask. How hard is it to have a job that actually pays well outside of the guard? For instance, let's say I worked at Boeing or some other aerospace engineering company as an engineer... Does flying get in the way of actually being able to retain a job? My guess is it would depend on the company and what they are all about. And I know about the legal obligations companies have to keep your job while you get deployed, …

  15. Although I've been on active duty for over 20 years, please forgive me for not knowing more about the nuts-and-bolts of the Reserves. So, I'm an O-5 with over 20 years. Let's say a Reserve unit wants to hire me into a flying position. And let's say it will be full-time for a while, and then part-time ("traditional Reservist"?) - can I retire from active duty so that I get my retiree pay on days I'm not working as a Reservist? - on active duty, an O-5 has to retire at 28 years of service. Does that also apply to part time Reservists? - what other pitfalls and considerations are there for someone over 20 years?

I'm thinking about putting in my palace chase application, but my ISR doesn't have any info on the new Montana unit and when they might start hiring people up there. C-130s in Montana pretty much equates to my dream job (airframe + close to home), so if I have to stick around AD for a while longer for a spot to open up I would rather do that than skip out now and miss out. If anyone has any inside info on it or knows someone who would let me pick their brain, I'd appreciate it.

how does communting work in the guard/reserve units, for those that live a long distance away? all the units I'm applying to are a good 1000 miles plus from home. im talking about if you have to pay for it out of pocket, or if you are able to either get reimbursed/grab a trasport floight out of a nearby base.

Hello guys, I enlisted into an F-16 ANG unit and chose aircrew resource management as my career field. I read here on baseops that lifesupport, intelligence, avionics were also good options, but they were not open when I applied. Working with aircrew appeals to me since I eventually want to fly for the unit I enlisted into. I would like to know more about aircrew resource management from anyone who may have some insight. How often do they deploy? What are deployments like? Do anyone know of an aircrew resource guy who earned a pilot slot?

Hey guys, anyone on these boards familiar with the 115th FW out of Madison? I will be interviewing soon for a maintenance position. I have a background in machining, metal work, etc., hence why I am looking in that direction. Is the unit pretty cohesive? What is the atmosphere like? I have interviewed with a couple of heavy units and the shop and squadrons were very relaxed but this is my first and only non-heavy unit I'll be interviewing with. I'm both nervous and excited because I have no idea what to expect. The posts on fighter squadrons are plentiful on this board but the perspectives are so varied in comparison to the consensus on heavy squadrons. Thanks …

The 370th FLTS is currently advertising a job for a KC-135 IP AGR. Maj position so Captains/Majors can apply. This is a great, very small squadron with a fun job in the local area supporting test. No deployments and living in Southern California. See REAMO for application instructions and rules. Feel free to contact me with questions about the unit, but don't ask how to apply, that information is clearly spelled out on the REAMO site.

  23. Hi everyone, I'm currently an active duty Navy FA-18F pilot, a little more than 2/3 of the way through my first sea tour (first ops tour, in your parlance). Lately, I've started to think about some potential options for further down the road and one thing I'm giving some thought to is a transition to the Guard or Air Force Reserves. I've got a few questions on that process. My first concern has to do with the Air Force flight physical. By Navy standards, I'm color-normal. In other words, I can pass a FALANT test (aka Optec 9000, I think?) no problem. The PIP tests, not so much. I understand that the USAF does not accept or even possess FALANT machines for co…

I did some searching, but no avail. I'm looking into the possibility of being a sim IP (GS-12 position) as well as a TR at a UPT base. For those of you that have done both, any pros and cons? Recommendations? Things you liked/didn't like? Would the pay be better, equal or worse than what I currently earn?

I'm a "new" nav, home from Pensacola for a little over a year in my <unnamed> ANG 130 unit. I know about the 2.5 year rule. We have a UPT/UNT board coming up in this summer. Lots of buzz about J's or 17's running around the squadron. I really enjoy being a nav, a crew dog, and flying (both in the 130 and currently working on PPL), and am curious about a few things... 1. 35 year old rule, ass in seat at UPT... I'm 31.5 years old, so I know I'll need a 30+ waiver. If your guard unit is sponsoring you, is this waiver really even an obstacle? Or is it granted if they want you to go to UPT? Does being a rated officer affect getting a waiver or extend the 35 ye…
