Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves

ANG & AFRES discussion area. Bums can search for flying opportunities with other units.

  1. Started by Papote,

I understand that an Air National Guard member isn't a veteran and isn't entitled to Veteran benefits unless they complete 20 years of service or are called to active duty by the Federal Service under Title 10 I believe for a minimum amount of months. What is the minimum amount of active duty time required to earn veteran status and what other ways can an ANG serviceman become a veteran? Is veteran status awarded after the honorable discharge?

Does anyone know any unsponsored AFRES folks going through ENJJPT currently/recently graduated? I’ll be classing up soon and have a few questions about how it all works in terms of rushing units while in training. I was told there’s a liaison assigned that helps get in contact with units? If still unsponsored at the end, how does the dream sheet/assignment work?

Slick C 130 Nav ( current and qualified) looking for deployment opportunities at the end of year. How do I know which units are deploying and their time frame? From what I understand most C130 units are short Navs and need guest help. Thanks

  6. First of all sorry if this is in the wrong section, I couldn't decide which one it fit in best. So lately I've been applying to UPT boards for the Guard while also working with an enlisted Guard recruiter as a backup plan in case nobody picked me up because this particular unit hires pilots almost exclusively from their pool of enlisted people. This past week I had two major developments - 1) my recruiter locked down a job in Aviation Resource Management for me, and 2) I got in touch with a reserve recruiter for the first time (for some reason I never really looked into them before and I'm kicking myself over it now) who thinks I have a pretty good shot at either a s…

Okay - I've found a few different threads that sort of tackled this question but I was hoping to get a better thread put together for this. I just realized that I could apply for Guard units (and that they existed), and that opens up a few more doors to me in terms of available units to apply to. I'm looking to stay somewhat local if possible, and I found some Guard units near me that fly the planes I'm most interested in. It would be ideal if I could get a slot at one of the local ones so I can be more involved in the unit's activities and have more opportunities to fly and is just better for long term (I'm in it for the long haul!). I don't have a problem moving for a f…

Filed under the list of shit I knew a month ago...Don’t show up to your Reserve unit the day after your separation date. It doesn’t matter and everything will be messed up. That being said, can anyone help with a pay question on UTA lodging? My DOS was 1 Aug and I reported to my unit on 2 Aug. They gave me 4 UTA periods and 15 AT days to build up some time (I’m a TR). I want to do the 4 UTA blocks First so they cover my hotel the night before and then the AT days on the back half somit covers my travel home. The problem is I am not in any system so the lodging for my UTA days is just on my GTC instead of booked through the UTA office. My question is how can I…

Quick I need help! I just got an email back from a unit im trying to interview with and they said they want my FAA flight physical form however I'm in the army and all I have is a DD form 2992. I've talked to them about this but they said they want the regulation per the FAA cited in my application. Can anybody help me find it? I'm on leave right now so I can't really get to a computer and my cell reception is spotty at best.

Fellow Air National Guard Hopefuls who are of the elderly variety.... Attached is the newest NGB ETP Checklist. I couldnt upload the fill-able form, but this will allow you to see that the ETP checklist has been drastically cut back from the previous. My last conversation with my recruiter indicated that NGB has changed their accessions process and now requires ETPs to be complete before swearing in just like the reserves. They also indicated that Age Waivers are now to only take 30 Days as opposed to 6+ months. I received this information early September and my packet was pushed up at the end of the second week of September. I was told that my packet is now…

  12. Due to a lot of misinformation from Regular Retirees and ARPC not being clear on Reserve Retirement rules and having run into more than a couple reservists telling me they stayed in the SELRES/ANG for 24 years in order to "max the pay chart" for retirement, and I think, obviously the ARC enjoying that people do not understand and therefore serve additional years unnecessarily, I am compelled to write this and wish it to become common knowledge for anyone seeking a reserve retirement. The only stipulation to carry O-5 into retirement is serving on the Reserve Active Status List for 3 years Time in Grade. Now it is unclear that if those 3 years are only years on the RA…

Search didn’t pull anything up so mods please delete if this has been covered previously. I’m a AD pilot starting to apply for ANG flying opportunities. One of the units I’m applying to ask for a cover letter. Besides highlighting my AD experience and my ties to the local area is there something else I should include? I realize this is a small part of the whole process but I don’t want to make an unforced error.

I heard rumor that in the last military budget from 2018 (I forget that things acronym) that Congress okay’d federal promotion dates to be back dated to the state promotion dates allowing back pay to be retroactively warned for E7’s and up and O4’s and up. Has anyone heard about this? Is it true? If so how does a guy get his federal recognition date back dated so you can get paid?

With the 193rd having a UPT board in the near future I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on the type of flying that the unit conducts. Given the mission I would assume the majority of flights would be high altitude orbits for hours on end. Does the EC-130J pipeline mirror that of an MC-130 or more of a slick 130?

I am a new TR with a full-time position at SWA, using SWA health insurance soley, no Tricare. If I need to see Flight Medicine or some other on-base doctor for something that is AF related, how does the insurance work? For instance, I need to be seen for my annual contact lens program examination. Since this is AF specific, do I just book with the on-base optometrist and it is treated as if I am on AD? What about if I needed to get put on a profile for a PFT? I'm just looking for AF specific issues, not a common cold or something where I could go anywhere.

The Air Guard, MAFFS, and Herk communities (and world) lost three great heroes on Jan 23, 2020. Captain Ian McBeth (Lt Col, MT ANG), First Officer Paul Hudson ((Lt Col (Ret) Marine Corps)), and Flight Engineer Rick DeMorgan, Jr. (18 year USAF FE vet) perished while fighting the fires in Australia. Personally, I was a Navigator in the Montana ANG with Ian for three years and I can't think of any pilot who I'd rather go into combat with. Please, do not speculate on this thread as to the cause of the crash. I just want this thread to be a memorial for those who knew any of these three aviators. We will find out about the details of the crash in due time. …

Greetings, I recently just finished MEPS processing for the unit I was hired into. Next is swearing in and getting enlisted then the FC1. When I swear in I know I’ll have a contract to sign. I’m a civilian that received a pilot slot with the OKC ANG and I’d like to get an idea of what the contract will look like before I go swear in. Can anyone give me an idea? Or what it really needs to say? Thanks!

Good day all, im an AD C-17 guy. My daughter wants to enlist as a LM in the Reserves. How do E’s go about getting hired by a unit? She spoke with a Reserve recruiter in CHS and was told she can’t pick a job and location. I thought that was an advantage of going that route. Any help pointing her in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. TIA

Hi guys, I am a sister service convert and require an aeronautical ratings board. I’m familiar with the process after reading reading the AFMAN and some other gouge online. I built my packet and it’s approved by the Wing CC. My HARM office is now convinced that the ARB requires a medical approval letter from NGB before we can submit the ARB. My approved FC1 is already in the packet. Does anyone know if there is an additional medical approval required and what it is for? Does anyone have any ARB POCs that I can pose this question to? Thanks in advance for any help! Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network mobile app

  25. Let's say a AFRC unit has a last-minute short fall filling a simulator seat and I live right next to the sim. Can I volunteer to sit seat meat and have the AFRC Sq. cut me a few days? Since it's a sim, I'd like to think the hurdles of approval wouldn't be nearly as high as it would be if they were trying to get me to fill a local training line in an actual A/C, but I'd like to know just how big of a pain in the dick this has the potential to be. I've got an email in with my budget office, but thought I would poll the community. Luckily, I have enough remaining AFTP's to use my own days that would have just been left on the table otherwise (before the end of th…
