  1. Currently enjoying great success with a career in engineering but going to UPT soon. I don't plan to return to a full time engineering career and I desire to get away from the M-F 8-5 grind but still need to earn some coin and have some ambitions I'd like to act on. So, I think I will start my own small consulting company taking on small projects and performing consulting in my free time. Anybody else have their own business? What do you do and how do you balance it? Would appreciate any experience you could share, even if it's in a totally different field. Thanks!

Going to an airlift unit that has ample opportunity to go full time. I'd like to hear what a day or week in the life looks for an LT, specifically what happens when not flying.

Anyone have any experience with a guard pilot going to PIT and doing a temporary assignment as an instructor at a upt base? Is it even a thing, and what avenues are there to make it happen? Thanks in advance.

When on Title 32 AGR orders for over 30 days, is your BAH based on your unit's zip code? Or on your residence zip code? Or something else?

  5. So I will likely have an individual visit with a heavy unit next month. Right now they don't have any upcoming boards but are planning on one for likely summer 2022. As mentioned in my other thread, I have poor AFOQT scores and and TBAS score. I will be retaking before soon. Should I bring up this information at the visit? Or if they ask if casually like say "Hey have you taken the AFOQT and TBAS yet?" and I answer "yes" and they ask "how did you do?" Should I just be honest and let them know I am planning on retaking both to improve? Would this be a good sign that I am determined to correct my mistakes? Also I see on older threads from circa 2004-2008 on here,…

  7. Two positions on the street right now. MVA #021-18 is a flying position for an 11F/12F. MVA #020-18 is a non-flying position for an 11F. Both close out on 7 December. Your primary job is a planner. For the flying position you are generally allowed to go TDY a week a month to the unit of your choice for currency. Feel free to send a PM if you have questions. https://www.125fw.ang.af.mil/Careers

  8. Good evening ladies and gents, So, here I am, just signing on for a six year contract at an airlift squadron for Aerial Transportation (2T2X1) and I've run into a slight dilemma. So the squadron I am currently on with is an airlift squadron, were going from 130s to 17s in 2018 and that sounds super nice. However, a squadron not TOO far away from me flies F-16s and I've always love the idea of flying fast jets and they have alot of boards for folks. Here are a few questions to throw out to the experience masses: 1. Would it make me look like an ass getting on with one squadron just to leave them for another squadron later on down the road? 2. Would it be po…

30 year old male. What would be chances of applying for a guard or reserve spot if disenrolled from ROTC > 10 years ago. I currently am a CFI/II/MEI with hundreds of flight hours and fly helicopters, airplanes and gliders. I am in a profession that required graduate school and am burnt out. Flying is my real passion. I can get many strong references. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. Anyone ever done this? I’ve heard rumors it’s a thing but have zero experience or knowledge about it. Guess you could say I’m ignorant. Any one heard or experienced it or know of someone who has?

For Guardsmen going to UNT, is it a PCS, or two TDY's? I'm getting conflicting info when I ask around. Also, if looking to get into an earlier UNT slot, does your unit work that through the ANG? Or through the active duty people at AFPC? For any of you that got moved up to an earlier date, any good insight to share? Thanks.

  14. The Vermont Army National Guard (VTARNG) is looking to hire 1-2 traditional part-time (M-day) C-12 (King Air 200/BE-200) Huron Pilots for their Operational Support Airlift (OSA) State Flight Detachment (SFD). These positions are located at the Vermont Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) at Burlington International Airport, VT (KBTV). We are a very small fixed wing aviation unit consisting of just: 6 Pilots, 1 NCO and 1 Aircraft supporting the Joint Operational Support Airlift Center (JOSAC), Operational Support Airlift-Activity (OSA-A), and the Vermont National Guard. We fly passengers (E-1 to O-10) and cargo throughout CONUS, as well as being an OCONUS deployable un…

Hi all! I was recently picked up for a slot flying CSAR helos at (unnamed unit). I’ve been super excited for the mission but it appears there has been a major drawdown in CSAR activity. Does anyone have any insight on the likelihood of full-time orders after training/the amount of hours per year one will likely fly? I want to be sure I have realistic expectations and a plan to have a civilian career in case a career flying helicopters becomes unlikely due to lack of hours. Any insight into that community would be hugely appreciated. Thanks for your time!

Hi all, I tried to find info on another thread about this but couldn’t find what I was looking for. I was lucky enough to be picked up by a Guard unit and have been going through the post-hire process to include MEPS, FC1, and going to drill each month before training. I was hired out of state and have been taking PTO from my civilian job in order to attend these things. Am I required to take PTO from my civilian job if I am fulfilling a military related obligation? After a couple google searches I found some info on it but am not sure how it would affect someone in the Guard let alone someone enlisted for the purpose of commissioning. I’ve been burning through quite a bi…

  17. Hello, my name is Evan Stahl. I am making an inquiry to see if anyone knows how I might be able to get in contact with Seymour Johnson's 4th fighter wing. I applied to the USMC PLC program (commissioning route for college students) and was not granted a guaranteed aviation contract. I can reapply next quarter (June 1st), but the contract is still not guaranteed until I am accepted. I heard from my brother that reserve squadrons can offer pilot slots and decided to reach out to you guys. I called the public affairs officer for the wing but did not get anywhere. Thanks guys

What’s going in Kansas? I had some buddies wanting to get into that unit and when I asked recently about it they said everyone is running for the hills over there and that the place is imploding from something going on over there from the TAG down. What’s up?

  20. Good morning all, First off I apologize if this isn't the right forum for this but I need some advice on how to proceed with my situation. I am currently an AD O-3 with approximately 3 years of flying experience (late-to-rate), and have already been passed over for Major on the initial attempt. To make things more complicated, I am currently at PIT with my graduation date not slated till about Jan-Mar, which will have been passed the board convene date for my second look. If passed over again I will TRY and find a flying job in the civilian sector, but due to my current hours it is making it difficult for me to find a job (TBNT from United through their UMPP). I have…

  21. Started by Idontknownanything,

I'm interested to hear thoughts on what might be the most effective way to demonstrate that my current character isn't indicative of my past mistakes. I intend to fully disclose my past legal troubles (2 separate underage drinking incidents when 18 and 20) on the AF Form 24 and to any who ask. I promptly did as I was instructed by the court without any issues (Community service and alcohol/abuse class) and put those incidents behind as lessons learned. I'm just hoping to get a chance to explain myself to the boards before I'm dismissed as an applicant because of those blemishes. I've graduated from a large university with a 3.5 GPA, hold a PPL, have volunteer experie…

Anyone have any info on what UCT is like and more specifically what being a CSO on the C-130 entails? I was recently eliminated from UPT (didn't pass formation in the T-6) but I am being recommended for CSO and considering finding a reserve unit to sponsor me. Are there reserve fighter units that higher back seaters? Any info would be helpful!

Gentleman, Quick question for those that went street to UPT via the guard. I am early on in the process after having been selected by a guard unit (MEPS completed, awaiting FC1 and clearance) my recruiter has mentioned to me that it may expedite the process if I enlist with the unit and become a drill status guardsman within the squadron in an admin role. The enlistment would have a contingency in place in the event I am disqualified prior to attending TFOT and UPT. Throughout my research of the process I don't think I ever came across this. I understand that at a certain point I would swear in to the DEP program like I did before my enlistment. However this seems li…

I find myself in an interesting situation. Love my squadron but we are entering a transition. I won't fly the new aircraft for a few years. In the meantime, I would like to go back to UPT or UCT and instruct. Does anyone know of a path for an ANG pilot to do this? Any ideas? With ADOS, MPA, PFI there has to be a way, right? Filling a need with someone willing and able to fly seems like an easy kill to my smooth brain. Any info or ideas would be really helpful.
