I am logging on under my husband's screen name to find out if the military member, their dependants, or both need a passport for personal travel?

This is just a general question that has bugged me for a while: when you see pilots wearing their A-2s, all you see is the command patch on the right chest and the nametag on the left chest. Why no squadron patch? To me the squadron patch would mean more than a command patch or even wing patch.

Does anyone have some funny Pattern/Area Buffoonery stories to share from UPT Phase II? I love hearing that I'm not the only one acting like a moron.

  5. COLUMBUS, Ohio - Paul Tibbets, who piloted the B-29 bomber Enola Gay that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima, died Thursday. He was 92 and insisted almost to his dying day that he had no regrets about the mission and slept just fine at night. Tibbets died at his Columbus home, said Gerry Newhouse, a longtime friend. He suffered from a variety of health problems and had been in decline for two months. Tibbets had requested no funeral and no headstone, fearing it would provide his detractors with a place to protest, Newhouse said. Tibbets' historic mission in the plane named for his mother marked the beginning of the end of World War II and eliminated the need fo…

Anybody know why they call it a Pave hawk? Is the pave short for pavement? For example, the Navy uses Sea hawks...becuase they are on the sea. And the Air Force likes to pave 18,000ft runways? Anybody.

Rather than reinvent the wheel, I have a request... I would like a copy of an ejection seat briefing guide that is given to pax. I don't mean the classroom briefing guide that the pilot briefs before the flight, but more what an egress instructor gives a pax during their seat training before the flight.... discussing seat position, canopy jettison, post ejection, etc... Obviously I don't need specifics to a particular kind of jet. I would just like the overall items so that I don't forget to include anything on the one I'm writing, which will be specific to the aircraft I'm working with. Hard copy, electronic... if it isn't that many pages, you can just…

As the title says I accepted a bonus and now I want to pay it back and get out. I love the Air Force, but I’ve come into some money and want to pursue other goals in life. I recall the bonus paperwork going pretty high up if I decide to pay it back and get out, but was curious if any of you have any experience or know anyone that has done this? I want to have all my ducks in a row before I start anything formal so any recommendations you all have would be appreciated. if anyone is curious I’ve made this money in investments and now I’m being recruited into some cool startups. I am not joking when I say I love the Air Force, but we only have so much time on this earth…

PC-12 Crash I expect this thread to go something like the rest of them... Some people know details. Nobody can talk about it. Something will be out on SIPR soon. Everyone is glad they are ok. We are reminded to wait until the AIB releases more details. So, does anybody know what happened here? What kind of mission were they flying when they crashed? I keed. But seriously, I'm glad they all survived.

Hey everyone, I just got picked up as a WSO and will be graduating in May. My question is what type of swim requirements are there down at PCola? As sad and embarrassing as it is...I cant swim for crap. I can doggy paddle and that is about it...can't tread water...don't know any fancy strokes (STS). Also, who else graduating in May is heading down there? Thanks -ElRoy [ 12. January 2005, 17:50: Message edited by: ElRoy ]

  16. I PCS'd from UPT about a month ago for TDY enroute at Altus, but my departure date was a week before my class start date. Since it was a PCS departure, no more housing at the old PDS...it only took two days to arrive at Altus, so I was here for about five days with no class, but still spending money on the hotel. Went to finance to do an accrual voucher so I could be reimbursed for the hotel, and was told that I would not be reimbursed for any days prior to the day before my class start date....which means I'm paying out of pocket for an unwanted 5 day vacation in lovely Altus, OK. Does anyone know if it is possible to get an amendment on the TDY orders that puts me…

Searched the forum and google but can't find the answer to my question... We just PCS'ed to Pensacola and did a full DITY move. My wife drove my truck behind me and I drove a 26ft Penske truck with her car on a car trailer. I weighed my rig on the way down at a certified scale, etc with her car on the trailer (3 axles total). We are staying in a hotel so all of our stuff is still in the truck. Do I need to get the Penske truck weighed without the car trailer and her car on it or can I just have it weighed empty with her car on it and TMO does the difference in weight? Seems logical but I don't want to get hosed. Hopefully someone knows the answer as I need to know…

I’ve scoured the JTR (only outlines must be used for “temporary lodging” and “must use government lodging if available”). Been given the green light by finance saying the Pentagon doesn’t have an attached lodging requirement so good on the economy. Am I good to AirBnB with TLE? I know I have to have an itemized receipt (doable) for each night. Finance Guy around?

This is a bit old but I just found a hardcopy of this and thought it was worth sharing... On 10 July 2000, General Michael Davison, Director, Defense Security Cooperation Agency, opened the Second Annual Security Cooperation Conference in Crystal City, where he presented the theme "Perspective Is Everything" as an appropriate motto for the security cooperation community which finds itself confronted by a myriad of changes resulting from this new era of a global strategy accompanied by rapid changes in technology and new missions. Former Ambassador Edward L. Peck, the opening day speaker, seized on the conference theme on perspective to deliver a primer on the verit…

I am at an unnamed tanker base for a couple days in the northwest (happens to be co-located with the survival school-but Ill keep it unnamed) and have noticed an absolutely disturbing trend amongst aircrew. Almost every person I have seen, still has their pen flap on their sleeve attached. WTF?????!!!!!! When did this bulls@#$ start happening? And why, oh God why, have we given up the most basic right of any rated donner of the flight suit to cut that worthless piece of forskin off our bag? PEOPLE PLEASE!!! If you have a single flight suit with that worthless piece of fabric dangling off it, for the love of all that is holy and good, and an affront to pencil push…

  21. Link Looks like the Air Force Global Hawk is being canceled in favor of retaining the U-2. This is interesting that a manned airplane is actually beating out a UAV. I wonder what this means for all the people recently hit with a GH gig but haven't PCSd yet.

  22. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Pentagon is seeking to speed deployment of an ultra-large "bunker-buster" bomb on the most advanced U.S. bomber as soon as July 2010, the Air Force said on Sunday, amid concerns over perceived nuclear threats from North Korea and Iran. The non-nuclear, 30,000-pound Massive Ordnance Penetrator, or MOP, which is still being tested, is designed to destroy deeply buried bunkers beyond the reach of existing bombs. If Congress agrees to shift enough funds to the program, Northrop Grumman Corp's radar-evading B-2 bomber "would be capable of carrying the bomb by July 2010," said Andy Bourland, an Air Force spokesman. "The Air Force and Departme…

I didn't even know it had closed! I've spent many a lunch hour catching some ZZZs in the adirondack chairs in that courtyard. The story/legend of this place is a good read for the noobs out there. No word yet on whether the new place will serve punch, ice cream, and/or cake...but for $1.2M it ought to!

I have asked the finance office here at RAFB and one person said I would and the another said I wouldn't. I was just looking for anyone that has dealt with the same thing. Thanks.
