I'm just about to finish up tweets at Columbus, and just filled out my dream sheet. I really want to do tac airlift, and I was advised to put in for T-1s (as opposed to T-44's) to keep my options open. I've been reading some articles in Air Mobility Magazine (while tending to various physio matters) about the C-17 being used to a fuller extent in the low-level/airdrop role. Say that doesn't workout and I manage to get a C-130 outta UPT. What are my chances of moving from slicks into AFSOC?

If I used the wrong search terms, I'll help setup the stake. Source I've looked and am still looking. Does anyone know about this? I'm wondering if it is good for any loan, secured or unsecured. Sallie Mae is starting to piss me off (again) on a student loan. [ 01. September 2006, 05:41: Message edited by: Toro ]

i am an ad lt awaiting nav training in Dec. per the rules i was offered up to 10 days for free leave to go house hunting with the wife. the obvious catch is that i pay travel/lodging and such. basically it is free leave, as ya'll already know. anyway, us this a good idea to go down there, can i save money by taking space A or is that just not realistic for a 10 day trip to randolph. ok-or can i take the 10 days house hunting free leave predate from my RNLT date plus 8 days permissive TDY so it is actually 18 days pre RNLT date. which would all be paid for because it is travel time. also they give like 7 days to drive so really it would be 25 days worth of paid t…

I have a lot of speeding tickets. A (civilian) security manager at an ANG fighter unit recently told me that I can obtain a TS clearance to fly Hercs, tankers, etc. but I wouldn't be able to obtain a TS to fly fighters. I was under the impression that a TS is a TS, regardless of platform. Is it true my driving record would receive more scrutiny from OPM as a fighter UPT selectee? [ 02. Found this on Fox News. A soldier in Iraq asked an online mattress company if they would sell them some floor mats so they would not have to sleep on the ground. The soldier got an insult in return. The company surely has been getting plenty of flack for the incident so they shut down their website. https://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,245718,00.html [ 23. Up until now, my brilliant, yet simple little world has consisted of O & M, with everything else being TWCF. Question: Is that even true? Furthermore, there are a number of more specific categories of mission types that has me a little baffled. I'll say what I think they are and then just tell me I'm totally wrong: All Local Trainers: Total O & M (easy one.) SAAMs: Specialized mission to your capabilities that they task you with. No other way to coategorize other than we need this, hey you do this. CHANNELs: Like SAAMs, except it's a regularly occuring need. However, also works on the hey you do this principle. JA/AATs: This is Joint. I got …

I think I'm Jinxed. I was down in SC a couple of weeks ago for the Blue Angel crash. Now I'm home in Montana and was up at the airport this afternoon meeting my Brother and watching the Snow Birds taking off for practice for this weekend's airshow. I was driving down the hill into town and saw smoke. The first thing I thought was I hope they didn't crash. Unfortunately I was right the #2 jet went in at Malmstrom AFB. I'll give more details as I get them. Man, I hate to see anybody lose their life in an airplane. From what I'm hearing on the local news the pilot didn't make it out.

All right... I'm searching for the rule which allows distribution/possession/consumption on USAF Contract Commercial Aircraft. Example, a unit is deploying to location X - flying American Airlines Flt XX from a military base. Can we open a flask/bottle in the back? Folks are telling me we can...I need proof.

Does anyone have any stories of buds they know being a single parent going through UPT? Please provide details on what the flight commander's thought, tactics they used to be approved for it, etc. I know that some may say it is going to be impossible, but I think it would be much harder if my wife leaves me and takes my daughter away from me. I hope this is not too personal...I am just desperate for information regarding this. Money is not an option and I would be willing to pay for the best of the best as far as a Nanny is concerned. If anyone can do this, it is me. I appreciate all of the advice I can get, I know it is bad timing expecially since I am supposed t…

I have just finished reading Not A Good Day To Die, which recounts Operation Anaconda principally from a ground pounder perspective. While the book makes clear that both pre-planned and on-call CAS was crucial to the operation from the get-go, and concedes that the Air Force was only vaguely involved in the planning of the operation, it does little to analyse the eventual failures of fixed wing CAS (both the pre-planned and the on-call) that it says occurred. Several things from the book struck me as curious: 1) That AF planners at the CAOC seemed so inflexible when an expanded list of targets was created in the build-up to the operation, despite seemingly having…

From the posts I'm reading on "Airline Pilot Central", UPS hiring process is pretty JACKED. Very confusing at the least... Anybody on this board started the process yet? What obstacles are you running into? Rumor is you cannot update your info once you've submitted it (unlike FedEx). Can anyone verify? I have absolutely everything except the ATP practical-- which I have scheduled two weeks from now-- but I'm afraid to submit without it for fear of not being able to add it later.

I was recently looking at an article about a unit in MN flying a Homeland Defense Mission in Hawaii (Hawaii Newspaper). The picture clearly showed a F-16 pilot standing in front of what I assume was his aircraft with his name in the caption(actually they put the wrong officers name in the first time but corrected it the next day). Is this an OPSEC violation? If I was a bad guy downrange who had been on the business end of ordanance from one of these jets he (and his family) would be high on MY target list. I wouldn't think it was smart but that's just my opinion.

A PowerPoint brief from AFPC trickled down to us junior folks today regarding the number of rated officers in the AF and the various "bills" that AFPC needs to pay with our warm bodies. The bottom line of the brief was that going to staff was probably not going to be in the cards for the vast majority of folks as due to the number of other obligations (UAS, ALO, RAS, etc, etc) that take priority. I don't really have a dog in the fight as to what these priorities are, but I could help but wonder what happens to these staffs without the rated people. I assume (maybe incorrectly) that these are staffs that impact the employment of airpower... and the folks that do the e…

My Dad recently told me that it was tradition to to turn you squadron patch upside down the week you leave for a PCS, PCA, etc. He never could tell me where or why this got started just that it was "What was done". (Much like party suits) I have seen it done in a couple of places, but was wondering if anyone knew where this tradition got started and what the significance of it is? Maybe some of the old-heads on here can help me out so I can justify bringing it back. Anyone else out there do this the last week? Edit: Spell'in
