Now, that the ANG has the C-27J mission in total, where is the C-27J School House? I have no idea if the AF senior leadership truly wanted this mission, but it's great in receiving new airframes regardless of size. Nice decision on the part of Sec Def Gates, who made it possible. He cut the legs from under the Army on this one. Since the AF likes to play down and dirty by playing Army with new PT standards and JET/ILO assignments nowadays, why not transfer all of the Army's fixed wing aircraft to the AF as well. That will be an additional 250-275 airframes. Possibly another 800-900 pilot positions. Let the Army specialize in helos, that's their bread and butter anyway…

Just looking for some information on flying C-37s in Belgium. How big the unit is, how much flying, where most live near Chievres, etc. I might have an opportunity to go out there, but have never lived in Europe. I haven't heard too many people say they hated their time overseas in Europe, but just want to make sure the fam is happy there. Thanks! Techsan

You don't here much of FRED on this board so this might help someone who is in UPT.This was off on another forum. I got my C5 assignemnt to the west coast 2 years ago. It was my third choice after C-21 overseas and C-17 McChord. For the amount of bad press Freddy gets, it's actually a pretty good deal. For one you don't deploy. The infastructure required to keep Freddy flying and the fact that it has a huge range allows it to fly out of home station downrange and back in 2-3 days. No staying in tents, the per diem is great, and crews stay nice places (with the exception of Moron which sort of sucks). Also, Freddy tends to only break in non-crappy locations. The missi…

I have heard alot about the c-5's all going guard. Is this true? A few people in my squadron have said that they have moved all c-5's out of Dover and that they are all going guard. What about the Travis c-5s? I am about halfway through phase 2 at UPT and was hoping to be able to have the c-5 on my dreamsheet. Is it still a viable option?

New O-5 here with lots of C-5 and airline time and bad habits going to Altus early next year and transitioning to the C-17. Do any of you C-5 guys that have transitioned have any thoughts on how to make it easier? What's important to study? I've heard all the horror stories about back side flying. How's Barney behind the tanker? Is the HUDD wierd to get used to? NVGs? Assaults? I liked the C-5, but it was pretty much big concrete to big concrete. I'll sit back with a J/C and read your replies. C-5 landed without nose gear extended at LERT. No other details other than it appears to be an aircraft malfunction

Just curious, what would everybody prefer to fly the Galaxy or Globemaster? (I only ask because I saw a program comparing the two heavy lifters) I know the C-17 is to replace many of the C-5's but let's say that they were both equally wanted/needed. And to spice things up, let's say the C-5 'rarely' breaks down. Anybody have time in both? Thanks

Would it be safe to assume that strategic cargo units have more pilots assigned due to length of missions and utilization of relief crew? I am trying to figure out if the two C-5 guard units would have more slots than a guard fighter unit. I also realize that there are two pilots per mission at least. I would take the slot if I am offered, but they sure are hangar queens. [ 18. June 2006, 19:10: Message edited by: Toro ]

I've done a bunch of searching, and haven't found to much out there. I realize it is hard to tell because not many people have flown both air frames, but is there any opinion as to what the lifestyle is like? Do both tend to be very relaxed? Also with tankers vs. cargo/transport what is the difference in where they fly? Which one will travel to more countries? Lastly, what do the deployment cycles look like for each. I've heard 6 months on 6 off for the C-5B/M but that seems like a lot for a reserve unit. Are these typical cycles in addition to monthly flights?

Hi, I'm a C-17 IP at CHS looking for a little gouge... to those currently at Little Rock AFB flying the 130J - they're searching Charleston for 2 C-17 Airdrop ACs to go fly the 130J...I understand from searching through a myriad of 130j posts on this forum that the training is for 6 months (fam/msn), and I've got a handle on what living in Little Rock is like for that time. My questions specifically though are ---> 1) Is the 130J operational and flying around the desert? (excuse my ignorance please...google and wikipedia just aren't cutting it these days) 2) If so, do the 130Js deploy as much as the 130Es out there currently? (ie. 4 on 4 off) 3) Finally, does anyo…

So I just had a C-146 assignment tossed onto my plate. It’s not official but it’s a question as to if I want it. I’m not sure how much time I have to figure it out, so I’m looking for anyone who can speak intelligently about the program. - How’s the lifestyle? - Sq life? - Ops tempo? - Pros/Cons?

Open question to any and all units that have an active SOF program and those that work as a SOF or have worked as a SOF. What if/any relationship exists between the SOF and the Command Post with regard to command and control of assets? Please don't reply to this topic but PM me so I can provide a .mil email address. I'm using this as a tool to reach out, not violate OPSEC. Thanks!

I was reading about the NH-90 and came across this TTH-90 info on globalsecurity 6th paragraph down: "Other features include weather radar, digital map, Obstacle Warning System, cable cutters , armoured pilot seats, defensive weapons suite, passive and active measures against the threat..." So Im thinking 'cable' as in a rescue cable lifting a person into the aircraft, and the necessary 'cutter' if something goes wrong or the helo becomes stuck on something below and needs cut away the cable. I look in a magazine with a picture of an MRH-90 and hook like blade labeled "cable cutters" above the windscreen and below the rotors, Im thinking WTF these are anti-…

I just found out that my UPT class start date got pushed back to October 12th. Anyone else going then? I'll be on casual for about three months before that as well. See you on the other side!

I'm giving this some serious thought...feeling I may be vulnerable for a 365 soon anyway, so I want to pick something I might actually enjoy doing...something new and different, something challenging and rewarding. And some may call me crazy, but Iraqi UPT in Cessna 172s and Caravans...now THAT's something different and may be a good change of pace for me. I've seen a couple mentions from hueypilot182 about doing the Herk training for the Iraqis, and that's a possibility too since I'm a Herk guy. Anyone with first or maybe second-hand knowledge of these gigs, please let me know

How would someone with active duty and reserve service accurately calculate their TAFMS time? Prior to commissioning, I served four years on active duty and five years in the reserve component. When I in-processed at Laughlin about three months ago, I discovered what I thought to be a discrepancy on the DD-214 issued to me prior to departing OTS. It reads that I have 7.5 years of TAFMS. I brought it up with the MPF here and they started a CMS case. That case made its way to AFPC and they confirmed that I have accumulated 7.5 years of TAFMS. I did complete two long formal training schools and a few sets of lengthy orders while in the reserve, but those points only add up t…

Has anyone gotten their Master's through CCU? I recently heard about it from a buddy and it sounds like it's what I'm looking for (quick/easy/no credibility on the outside whatsoever/accredited). I'm currently a few classes into a National Security Studies M.A. with AMU, and though it's interesting and might make me sound smart one day when I'm a Fox News contributor, I'm through with devoting that much time and reading to a Master's if there are paths of lesser resistance out there to the same piece of cheese. CCU sounds extremely military friendly and I have about a year and a half to get this completed. Also, I'm not what some might refer to as "academically inclin…

Hey folks, I'm trying to start back up GuardReserveJobs.com. I realize it used to be a great central resource for units looking to hire and people looking to get hired. I've rebuilt the site, and I'm hopeful for a decent amount of traffic. What I could really use is the word of mouth network to spread the request for units to post job offers and for people to post their resumes. Thanks in advance for helping me to rebuild what used to be a great resource for folks fed up with active duty life and for ANG/Reserve units!
