  1. Does anyone have an idea on if you need to have your TS security clearance prior to receiving your training dates? Or is it only prior to showing up on UPT? Not sure if this has been asked somewhere else, but can't find the information anywhere.
  2. My unit sent in my packet almost 6 months ago, and am now playing the waiting game. Have talked with those in charge of submitting at my unit, but anything that else can be done? Poke and prod the bureau a bit?
  3. Question that I haven't seen here before. Does anyone know, in FC1/MFS if you have 20/20 uncorrected vision will you still need to go through the dilation Cycloplegic Refraction test? Doesn't seem to painful, but wondering because I don't see any information on the Wright-Patterson site or elsewhere in the Medical Aviation forums.
  4. Best way to answer the "How do you feel about the possibility of having to shoot down a civilian airliner?" question?
  5. Have you heard about the new 6 year ART Commitment the Reserves is now mandating for Pilots? Would that have changed your decision to go Reserves if you were currently trying to get in? Also, do you mind if I PM you? I've seen a couple of your posts, and you seem to know what you are talking about, and have a bit of experience on the subject.
  6. What do ya mean? I actually don't believe that recruiters will lie to you, but I definitely think that they will stretch the truth about some things, that's why these forums are great, almost just to fact check.
  7. From my (limited) experience, it seems like the Reserves are a bit less selective than Guard Units, but I would like to end up eventually at a Guard Unit. I just am trying to weigh out if the best option is if selected for the Reserve slot to take that and hope to transfer to a closer Guard unit later, or wait and Apply to more Guard units and hope things work out. Also with the Reserves, route to OTS and UPT is much much quicker, whereas the Units I'm looking at are a year or two down the line.
  8. Bringing this thread back to life here! Does this just mean, applying to a Guard slot separately, or is there some way to convert a Reserve pilot slot to a Guard pilot slot? Also, if you were selected to fill a Reserve slot, down the line would you ever be able to transfer to a Guard Unit?
  9. Any other input? With a Airlift/Cargo will you always be flying from your home base and back on missions? Someone described as Point A to Point B and back. Is it sometimes, Point A to Point B to Point C to Point D then back to Point A.
  10. Thanks, I don't know who approved my screen name but glad I got it. Is that true? Would a tanker be more likely to see more places than airlift?
  11. I've done a bunch of searching, and haven't found to much out there. I realize it is hard to tell because not many people have flown both air frames, but is there any opinion as to what the lifestyle is like? Do both tend to be very relaxed? Also with tankers vs. cargo/transport what is the difference in where they fly? Which one will travel to more countries? Lastly, what do the deployment cycles look like for each. I've heard 6 months on 6 off for the C-5B/M but that seems like a lot for a reserve unit. Are these typical cycles in addition to monthly flights?
