https://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?id=123028524 Air Force leaders to discuss new 'Cyber Command' by Staff Sgt. C. Todd Lopez Air Force Print News 10/5/2006 - WASHINGTON (AFPN) -- Air Force leaders are gathering in early November to discuss plans for creation of a new command, one chartered with flying and fighting in cyber space. Cyberspace became an official Air Force domain, like air and space, on Dec. 7, 2005, when Secretary of the Air Force Michael W. Wynne and Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen. T. Michael Moseley introduced a new mission statement. In a letter to Airmen, they said the new mission was to "deliver sovereign options for the defense…

Anyone ever done a Report of Survey? I got tagged by my squadron to be the investigating officer for some stolen/missing equipment. Have not found anybody in the squadron who has done one that has time to answer a few questions. It's an interesting additional duty but going through regs is a pain. Grandpa [ 08. There's a lot of misinformation out there about what is covered by GO 1/1A. GO1A was the change to GO1 that Gen Tommy Franks signed just before the start of OIF, IIRC. However, comments like this one ,She's busy helping her C-130 crew member boyfriend break General Order One, while meant to be funny also show that there is a common misunderstanding of GO 1A. I was in a seminar this past year that showed that there are many people that believe that GO 1/1A covers sexual activity, like the above comment does, but it actually doesn't. Local policy may cover it. So what are the myths and the facts about the GO that are out there? I think it would be interesting to see …

[Attempting to give a "second chance" to what's, IMHO, a great topic of conversation that's quite interesting. Would just wish people can keep things civil and make good, valid points. Mods, if you don't like this, that's cool, but I ask that it be given another chance to work; and if it doesn't, then oh well....we ruined it ourselves] I'd like to address the issue of how we're prosecuting our current war from two personal viewpoints: 1. As a member of the US military, and 2. As a US taxpayer; since reading the last closed thread, IMO, some people were getting this distinction blurred. As a member of the military, there may be ROE I don't personally agree with, …

Hey what do you guys think about a FAA sport pilot rating? Is it a gay rating that you would be extremely limited in use? I've got about 35 hours in a C-152 as I was working towards my private, and don't know if I would be able to get a private rating due to some circumstances. However, the transition to sport pilot seems very easily doable. Does anyone here have a sport rating and use it or is it pointless and a private rating is the only thing to be concerned with? I know that this is not mil related but some love on this would be appreciated.

In the spirit of the other Died post, I thought this might be intresting. Everyone who has done their time has at least one good Morale Suppression Police story. Let's hear yours. I'll get the thread rolling: So there I was. I was sitting Alpha with my crew and we jumped into the alert van to go to the chow hall. The AC (female) was wearing a pair of short shorts with the words "Roll Tide" on the back of her britches. So we head back to the van and a Major who had just gotten off the rotator one week earlier crosses the street out of her way to stop us and then berate the AC in front of the rest of us. Basically her reasoning was that her shorts were out of re…

Hello, I did not apply as a pilot or a navigator but got selected this past board as a Civil Engineer (32E). I got a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering and really wanted to become a Developmental Engineer (62E). Is there anyway that I could change my job title? I did put Civil Engineering as one of my options but did so because their was nothing really related to Electrical Engineering. I am in the process of getting my security check and have not swore in. If I do plan to become a Civil Engineer, does anybody know what they exactly do? Do they work in the office and talk to contractors or do they actually go out in the field and lead a group of laborers…

Hi.... What will lead to a better life T38's or T1's? I’m about to select in Pensacola for T-38/T1/T44. I know it is not a for sure deal but as of right now, I’m the only AF in my class that is thinking about 38's. So If I put it down, I will probably get 38's (grades are good enough to get them too) I want to have a family (currently married no kids), get my MBA, get some leadership exp, and fly a good platform and I’m not sure what I should choose? Please Help....

So I just finished my T-38C upgrade, and now this FAIP is finally starting to fly with a HUD tape on a daily basis. For the fighter guys out there that fly with tapes: How do you cope with this? It seems like every little thing I say in the jet now is subject to scrutiny...and I'm not sure how I feel about that. Sure, I try to keep my language clean, and I'm not screwing around (sts) and doing stuff I shouldn't in the air (in this or any other aircraft, of course). I'm not concerned about flight discipline issues. However, do the lawyers love to pull tapes any time something nonstandard is observed? I was flying with a LtCol the other day doing some CT stuff,…

So I was reading through my copy of the T-34 limitations, and it says that normal operation burns 335 lbs/hr. Holy hell, that seems like a lot! Is this thing right, or do I have bad info? What is normal fuel flow on some other airframes? Also, if this info is wrong, does anyone know where I can get some good info on the T-34? Thanks a million!

Here's a discussion that started at my work and I want to offer up for discussion. My crew was broken at base X in the desert and a C-17 was parked next to us doing some lengthy stop. Curious, the loads and I went over for a look (we'd never toured Budda before). After a look around the back, I asked the loads were the pilots were and he pointed to the cockpit. I thought this rather strange seeing they were shut down. I walked upstairs to find 3 pilots sitting with the AC blasting, just shooting the breeze. I asked them if they ever helped with the reconfigs and/or helped the loads out. One of them told me, "That's the loads job. Our place is up here." …

From BBC News A Nato aircraft has crashed in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a Nato spokesman has said. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties. The crash was not the result of enemy fire and the plane which was supporting a Nato mission in the area was not a fighter jet, Maj Scott Lundy said. Nato forces are at the scene but there is no word on how many people were on board. A large Canadian contingent is based in Kandahar province. To the fallen Cooter [ 02. I lieu of the Comair crash in Kentucky, it got me thinking about the experience level of the pilots who fly for regional airlines. I am not commenting on the crew of this tragedy, since I don't know what their experience level was...but rather the requirements of the regional airlines and the lax interview requirements they grant to some of the Part 141 schools out there. Several of these Part 141 school grads get promised interviews at some regionals with significantly lower flight hours (~750 hrs TT) than a person who takes the traditional Part 61-to-CFI/II route. Not to knock the Part 141 fast-track civilian training route, but has/could this lower level of expe…

Can anyone tell me what type of lifestyle a pilot flying an AWACS, JSTARS, or RJ usually lives? I have a rough idea of the missions of these jets, but not the crew lifestyle. Long deployments, amount of flight time compared to the KC's or C-type jets? I searched, but didn't find much to answer my question. [ 31. August 2006, 17:23: Message edited by: robot_chicken ]
