Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

Things are different when you are racing through the air six miles above the ground. Mundane mistakes can become disruptions for hundreds of people, creating news and likely even fodder for comedians. And so it was for pilots of United Airlines Flight 940 on Monday night. One spilled coffee accidentally on the Boeing 777’s avionics while over Canada en route to Frankfurt from Chicago. When radios went goofy, a pilot put the “No Radio” code (7600) in the transponder but mistakenly entered 7500, which means hijacking or unlawful interference. When that happens, there’s a lot more than crying over spilled coffee. A Transport Canada report said Canada’s defense departme…

Not sure this has been addressed directly in another thread. After seeing a lot of reluctance to address religious convictions in other threads I figured we should have a place to discuss those separately if so desired. How does religion affect your views on your profession? On international terrorism? On DADT? On working with others who's views differ? Open forum for direct discussions of religion. Ask and you shall receive...

Whatever your feelings are about global warming, yo have to admit that environmental monitoring isn't a part of the CIA's mission.

Anyone got a good place to buy cheap custom stickers? I am going through T-6 PIT and want to buy like 100 or so stickers with the ADI attitude fail image on them. I know someone made it a class patch back in '04 but I want to just make a small say 3" by 3" sticker with the image so i can hand it out to studs when I think their attitude sucks. thanks bb

  11. I intentionally removed "elite" from the threat title, but credit for execution! Elite Group of Navy Pilots Drops “Beat Army” Ping Pong Balls On Army’s West Point Campus CMDR Alana Garas, Public Affairs Officer for the United States Naval Academy has confirmed that on December 5, 2022, at 11:59 am EST, midshipmen from the Class of 2023 successfully conducted an air-to-ground spirit mission over the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, New York, ahead of Saturday’s 123rd Army-Navy Game. What is the Squadron's mascot? A part of the 927th ARW, their patch labels them as the "Flying Jennies", but I'm not sure if that's what they go by.

  18. And now for something completely different... Air New Zealand staff have nothing to hide. Something like this reminds us that flying should be fun! Too many companies take themselves WAY too seriously - see more at: https://www.nothingtohide.co.nz/ One of the people in the video series (which also includes their preflight safety videos) is Air New Zealand CEO Rob Fyfe (although I wasn't looking for him...) Some back and forth on this questioning if it is real. NY Times, Task and Purpose and ABC all say they confirmed with USSOCOM. Knowing my other veteran friends here in Florida and the number of weapons they keep, seems like a bad place for this plan of action.

Here is a film clip from the Austrian national archives of the Wright Brothers demonstrating their plane in Italy in 1909. What is even more fantastic is there was an on-board camera on the Wright plane and the last part of this film shows it. It's crystal clear, and apparently the first in flight footage taken - anywhere. Wilbur Wright is at the controls on both of the flights. https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/PY/322/fiche_technique.htm?ID=322 ://https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/P...que.htm?ID=322 ://https://www.europafilmtreasures.eu/P...que.htm?ID=322 Talk about a heritage flight...
