Squadron Bar
Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.
1 – Keep it civil
If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed. If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.
2 - Listen before you speak
A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."
Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force. Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.
3 – UTFSF
Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.
4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.
After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"
5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense
This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".
6 – No unpaid advertisements
Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed. Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum. For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

I am in the market for a new TV now and was talking to a buddy about the LCD vs Plasma delicacy thing. I am curious if anybody has had any problems with their Plasma breaking during a PCS move. I understand they are more fragile but in my moves I never had a problem with mine breaking (to include an overseas move). It's possible I had the one decently made TV so I am seeing if anybody else has had problems with them not working post move. Thanks.

Search was exhausted prior to post... I don't know about you guys but I'm pretty pumped about the super cool new patches as described below: Honestly what kind of BS is this? Don't give me a patch, give me a day off or a bonus. Not some ridiculous iron on pat on the back for not being a fat ass. I want the "mediocre, not dying any time soon" patch! On another note, here's hoping it doesn't become mandatory like a RB. One more way for the alterations and MCSS to make a buck I s'pose.

Drones Converge on California, Ready to Take Off Five years ago, the Pentagon was on cusp of an air-combat revolution. For a few brief, heady months in late 2005, it looked like the U.S. military might soon launch full-scale development of a new class of fast, lethal Unmanned Aerial Vehicles eventually capable of replacing all kinds of fighter jets, from the older F-15s, F-16s and F-18s to the latest F-22s. But the revolution fizzled when the Air Force abandoned its share of the so-called Joint Unmanned Combat Air System effort. Manned jets continued to dominate, culminating in today’s mammoth, $300-billion F-35 program. The embers of upheaval kept burning, a…

Bumbled on to a whole bunch of BBC produced episodes of a guy named Ray Mears talking about all sorts of survival techniques, with a pretty big emphasis on food. He also has a couple where he retraces the steps of Geronimo, or Rogers Rangers. Pretty interesting if you're into that type of thing. Well produced and not the sensationalist Bear Gryls nonsense. example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JCkT8cwJPZM&feature=related

We all like to think we'd go back to the burning jet three times to carry people out and check for survivors, leaving ten seconds before the CFT explodes. But Rich actually did it. Nice work! https://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2010/12/airforce-reservist-earns-airmans-medal-121010w/

AP: Pilot duped AMA with fake M.D. claim He seemed like Superman, able to guide jumbo jets through perilous skies and tiny tubes through blocked arteries. As a cardiologist and United Airlines captain, William Hamman taught doctors and pilots ways to keep hearts and planes from crashing. He shared millions in grants, had university and hospital posts, and bragged of work for prestigious medical groups. An Associated Press story featured him leading a teamwork training session at an American College of Cardiology convention last spring. But it turns out Hamman isn't a cardiologist or even a doctor. The AP found he had no medical residency, fellowship, doctoral deg…

I sometimes think some of the best (and worst) ideas happen when you are cruising over the Pacific. Maybe its because those missions are a rare occurrence these days. Who knows. Hopefully this idea ends up in that "best" category. A couple of us worked with an awesome developer to make an iPhone app. It lists all of the PerDiem location/rates and can actually estimate your total per Diem for multi-day and multiple locations. Then you can e-mail your results to your buds using the app. It's called PerDiemCalc. You can find it by typing PerDiemCalc in the itunes search bar. Interested in what you think about it. Maybe we'll do another app if people like it.

So it's been banned at numerous colleges. It's been banned for sale at Hurlburt. A member of a MX squadron on base drank two, and woke up in jail the next day. Apparently he had consumed two, drove his car from the dorms to Destin, got naked and didn't remember a thing. With an alcohol content equal to five beers and the caffeine that equals a couple cups of coffee I am pretty interested, anyone out there try this stuff?

I've been considering getting a Garmin 695 for a while, but recently stumbled across the Anywhere Duo. It looks promising, but I really have no knowledge about them. On paper it looks great, but I can't find any real practical information about how it is. I'd like to use it as an SA backup due to an often questionable on-board navigation system.

Link So the generals in all of the infinite wisdom spent 10 months choosing new motto for the Air Force, that was already chosen for them over 20 years ago. Guess there's nothing better to do with this war going on and all. My favorite part of the article: 20 bucks says that in 10 years we will have another motto.

Barbara Boxer: Please Call Me 'Senator' Posted: 06/17/09 Filed Under:The Capitolist Overheard at a Senate hearing yesterday: "Could you say 'senator' instead of 'ma'am?' It's just a thing. I worked so hard to get that title. I'd appreciate it." --Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) to Brigadier General Michael Walsh during Senate hearing Tuesday, when he the general repeatedly said, "Yes, ma'am," and "No, ma'am," when answering Boxer's questions at hearing she chaired on New Orleans' levee system. I've been in the USAF for a while. I'm proud of my service and those I serve with. However, as in most corporate cultures "back stabbing" does exist in the Air Force. In an effort to gain ground on career advancement and promotion, I've never seen a culture (ours) so overwhelmed with such blasphemous behavior. The thought that I share a cockpit with such low lives, who will spread vicious rumors and engage in character assassination - then look you straight in the eye and lie about it. I must add that I'm not saying this about our entire force, but witness it once, twice multiple times in your career and you can't help but build a sense of insecurity about those you work …

Saw this on another site. Was wondering what most of you guys thought. New York Post April 13, 2005 Clashing Military Cultures By Ralph Peters Last month, I sat in the office of Col. Jon "Dog" Davis, a veteran Marine aviator. While at war, the Corps' pilots had seen a rise in their accident rate. Davis was determined to do something about it. I wanted to be sympathetic, so I said, "Well, you're flying some very old aircraft." Davis, a taut, no-nonsense Marine, looked me in the eye and said, "They may be old, but they're good. That's no excuse." As commander of the Marine Aviation Weapons and Tactics Squadron 1 out in Yuma, Ariz., Davis could ha…
