Squadron Bar

Off-topic discussion. Keep it civil, don't abuse this forum.

Forum Rules

1 – Keep it civil

If you don't have anything constructive to say, keep your mouth shut. Opinions are great, constructive criticism is encouraged, third grade retorts are right out. Threads that devolve into pissing contents will be locked. If your post starts to drag a thread in that direction, it will be removed.  If you continue to instigate, you may face suspension of your posting abilities.

2 - Listen before you speak

A wise man once said, "You have two ears and one mouth, so you ought to listen twice as much as you talk."

Fighter squadrons have a rule that you can’t speak until you’ve had been there a year, and there's some wisdom to this; don't just show up here spouting your wisdom to dudes who are not only veterans to this board, but veterans to the Air Force.  Hang out a while, read the posts, and be a fly on the wall. You'll see who's legit and who is generally clueless. This will prevent you from a severe case in foot-in-mouth-itis when you try to tell a combat proven pilot that he knows nothing while you sit at home waiting to see if your UPT package has been approved.

3 – UTFSF

Before you ask a dumb question, make sure it hasn’t been asked and answered – use the search function at the top right of each page.

4 - If it's been talked about before, keep it in the same thread.

After you follow Rule 3 but don't find exactly what you're looking for, revive one of the old threads instead of starting a brand new one. In other words, if you're trying to find information on housing at Del Rio and you find lots of old posts with Del Rio info, but nothing specifically answers your question - post your question at the end of one of those threads. This makes it easier for future searches so that 690 threads don't pop up when they try to search for "Del Rio Housing"

5 - Give it a subject line that makes sense

This seems anal, but there are several reasons. (1) If you have a nebulous subject like "Serious question" you're potentially not going to get answers from as many people as if your subject line was "Where to find Jeremiah Weed?" (2) It makes it easier for serious searches; the poor sap who types "SERE" into the search function will have a much easier time with specific subjects like "What do I bring to SERE?" vice just "SERE".

6 – No unpaid advertisements

Unpaid advertisements and promotion of outside websites are not allowed.  Individual items are allowed to be sold in the “Market Place” forum within in accordance with the rules of that forum.  For questions on paid advertising on this board, use the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each page.

(This last post was deleted. I figured it might be interesting though to many people who live in central Texas and are on the forums, so I'm going to try again. Feel free to move to another location on the board if its more appropriate.) Last year we started a group called Disruptive Thinkers - ATX to build cross talk between vets, active duty military and civilians. It's a group that meets regularly in Austin with attendance by many vets, local tech leaders along with some Air Force folks who make the drive from San Antonio. We also attract some from Camp Mabry and Ft. Hood. On Monday, Feb 3rd, we are hosting Col (ret) 'Shark' Garland, the former commandant of US…

  3. I am working on my post-VSP pipe dream. I have been talking to Cameron-Brooks and trying to separate the sales pitch from reality. I think I heard the guy salivating over his commission already. Has anyone had any luck breaking into the finance or consulting industries in Chicago, New York, Boston, etc? Any constructive advice or contacts would be appreciate. Stats for reference: Did well at the Zoo, the AF (multiple strats, awards), and MBA (4.0, Brick and Mortar, but not top tier). Just a simple What are my chances? question for the real world. Thanks.

This caught me as a sad commentary on the future of Afghanistan. Karzai: "If there is no peace, then this agreement will bring misfortune to Afghanistan," he said. "Peace is our precondition. America should bring us peace and then we will sign it." https://www.reuters.com/article/2013/11/24/afghanistan-us-karzai-idUSL4N0J905P20131124 I scold my 3 year old son for shirking personal responsibility... I know this is a overwhelming Air Force operator's forum, but I would like to say happy birthday to all Marines that derp through these forums. Although currently I am an Air Force loadmaster (and future AF pilot), I will always hold my time as a Marine Corps infantryman close to heart. Many memories, good and bad, but much like the Air Force, it is your bros that keep you going through the tough times. Happy Birthday Marines past and present! "No better friend, no worse enemy."
