  1. If the offer was good, I'd do it. The retired officer voluntary recall thing looked good... until I crunched the numbers. Mrs Huggy would slit my throat while I sleep if I took a pay cut that significant.

  2. Again... really? If you worked as hard at anything as diligent as you create fake accounts and post your crappy scores you would be able to move out of your mom’s basement and actually get a job. Next time come up with a better story.

  3. If you're serious about joining any squadron/airframe you should always go visit, it only increases your chances so why wouldn't you! I visited in September, and it seemed like several of the pilots within the unit were from all across the country. I also spoke with the POC several weeks ago, and he told me the last two people hired to go through UPT pipeline were civilians. So it would seem that they do not just hire from within. Hope that helps!

  4. Court martial a capt for manslaughter when a soldier dies during an ON dz drop. Give a Col a plea for non consenually grabbing a jr enlisted. Fucktards

  6. Nope, waaaay too muggy down there. If I’m gonna be stuck in a place for the next decade or more I need to enjoy the climate and I like it cold lol. Plus I’ve decided to put fighter unit apps on hold until I’ve gotten my PPL. And oh jeeze, Sea Dogs finally found his laptop charger again. 🙄

  8. Here are some pics from the flying in between the racing. Jim Bryant is a photographer that doesn't crop, doesn't use PhotoShop, and only shoots in one-shot mode. He does very nice work, as you can see.

  10. Can we just make a thread where we all post our terrible videos, watch them, and then make fun of each other over a beer that weekend?

  11. I just can't muster the energy to care about an airman with a shaving waiver. Feels hypocritical after all the bitching I've done when a chief corrected my patches, sunglasses on my head, or the lack of a reflective belt. Fuck, at least these guys have documentation allowing them to skirt the regs.

  12. I’d say it is a long shot. But I am certainly not in the know. I didn’t know this was seriously being considered until I saw the article posted here. When it was considered while I was in the U-2, I was very much against it. However I’m sure there are a lot of good reasons... and realities...that are driving this. That said, I hope that they are considering contract U-2 pilots if they want a pool of highly qualified pilots that are motivated to do the job.

  15. Get min requirements, apply. It’s a shame. The U-2 definitely wants to bring fighter dudes in, AFPC just isn’t having it...

  16. What is the obsession with clamshell canopies? Well at least we’ll have continuity with the T-6 for a canopy that’s finicky to close and a CFS that will melt your face if it goes off...but hey just leave it pinned right.

  19. i can second this recommendation. I've read both. I couldn't put viper pilot down when I started reading it and got through it in a weekend.

  20. Thread revival: I'm applying to the 143rd AW out of Quonset, RI and I reached out to the email listed on Bogidope but haven't heard back. I am going to see if the ANG recruiting office might be able to help me out but I figure I'd ask on here since it's a great forum. I was hoping to visit the unit or at least meet someone flying with the unit so I could ask a couple of questions. Any help would be much appreciated! Fox3close

  21. not a movie BUT did anyone see the new documentary on Amelia Earhart? It featured former fighter pilot/author Dan Hampton. I thought it was pretty good - I always take history channel documentaries with a grain of salt though. Speaking of movies...

  23. Hello all, Got all my scores back today. Pretty disappointed. Probably going to re-take both AFOQT/TBAS again. My plan was to apply to both reserve units and ANG units. GPA: 2.66 in Marketing AFOQT pilot: 59 PCSM: 63 with 81 hours. Score estimated to be 67 if I can get to 100 flight hours. Recommendations: F15 pilot with confirmed MIG kill who can speak to my airmanship Ret. AF General who can speak to my work ethic Sr. Flight Instructor/owner who can speak to my airmanship/work ethic (I work at the flight school) I know for a fact I can get a better pilot score on the AFOQT. I'm trying to decide if I should just re-take it again in January or apply in the spring and see if I can get at least an interview before re-taking. Any insight would be tremendously appreciated. Best

  24. Thanks very much everyone. @extender10 I will definitely re-take the AFOQT this January when my 6 months is up. I know I can do better on that exam - for a fact. I will also definitely hit 100hrs by January too which will boost my PCSM by an estimated 4 points. Hoping to get my PCSM to at least an 80 with flight time / pilot score. I'll have to wait until next May to re-take the TBAS.

  25. @vipermaverickk What was your original pilot score? Mine is a 59 - going to be re-taking the AFOQT in January and I'm wondering how wide of a margin you scored on your 2nd attempt to triple your PCSM (Which is awesome btw.) I also just took the TBAS last Thursday for the first time. Without detailing the test - in addition to the flashcards, you could replicate most of the test at home (excluding the stick and rudder exercise) to practice on your own before re-taking. Just my .02

  26. Re-taking AFOQT Feb 1st. I'll make sure to post when I get an update in about a month. Current PCSM 63 and Pilot Score is 59 NAV 33. I've also crossed the threshold of 100 flight hours and will be getting that added to my PCSM as well for an estimated extra 4 points (I'll take it.) Crushing the books as we speak. Cheers.

  27. Thank you for the motivation @John3806! Studying has been my second full time job since I got the chance to visit a unit I'm applying to a couple weeks ago. I'm confident I can score in the high 80s to 90s which will make for a yyuuugggeeee jump in points hopefully.
