  1. Not hard at all. Inside tip, when writing your cover letter... always mention Rep. Martha McSally and say that she's someone you look up to. She's HUGE in the A-10 world.

  2. Fvcking THANK YOU! Would anyone want to place bets on whether or not any politicians consult the Russians in 2020 to figure out which counties they need to campaign in to win the swing states? Exactly, and the polarized politicians don't care about there actually being a connection between Russia and Trump as much as they care about dragging out this "investigation" as long as possible to induce Cold War reminiscent hysteria. Every time Trump says or does something that makes me skeptical, the medias overreaction is so rabid that I end up defending him.

  4. This is so dumb. Trump didn't even win as many votes as Clinton, so the Russians did a pretty lousy job "hacking" the election for Trump. Explain to me how some freaking Russian cyber thugs knew how to expertly place an influence campaign in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, and Michigan while the Clinton campaign itself couldn't figure it out.

  5. It had to be the Russians!! It could not have been 30 years of shady dealings and "mis-speaking" (i.e. lying). Failing to campaign in critical swing states? The Russians caused that! Set up a home brew server in your bathroom? Russians! Have your housekeeper access and print your classified? Was she Russian? Probably. It's the only thing Democrats and liberals can hang their hat on beside putting that hat on the head of their extremely poor choice of candidate and admitting their error.

  7. How about the HAF/A3 acting amazed that is was neigh impossible to wash out UPT students because wing/CC keep sending them back? Or that he thinks allowing a washout T-38 student go into T-1's. Without getting into a T-38/T-1 what is harder pissing match, I've seen some of the best (sarcasm) that Shepard has to offer in T-38 track to heavy students, and I'm sure they would have struggled there as well. Overall when at UPT it was apparent that leadership was more concerned with pure pilot production numbers than maintaining any kind of "quality" product, while paying lip service to holding the bar high. The same at PIT for that matter, more PIT students showing up with questionable FEF and even more questionable ability being pushed on the UPT bases. But it is okay wing leadership still thinks that we can increase production and not reduce quality some how. Though to be honest our quality issue right now is not due to work load, but quality of inbound students and inability to wash them out. Hopefully this gets us back on track... The point being that big blue doesn't trust its own instructors to call a shit product (UPT or PIT Student) what it is and wash it out. Or more likely its not a trust issue but a don't give two shits issue since bean counters would throw a fit if their numbers are upset any further.

  8. The complete opposite is true. Once you're over the speed where fatal accidents become more certain in a crash, it doesn't really matter if you hit something at 120mph closure or 400kts closure, you're still in a bad place. On the ground, you're sometimes inches and often no more than a few feet away from numerous other objects, including other piloted vehicles whose drivers may or may not be paying attention. You're dealing with pedestrians, stray dogs, limited sightlines with no ability to see through the obstacle, confusing or missing road markings, and most of all, other idiot human drivers an arm's length away. Compare that to IFR flying, where the roads are mostly straight and all well-marked, you're not anywhere near other objects (relatively speaking compared to driving), and all pilots in that environment are much more highly trained than your 16 year old daughter in a mustang talking on the phone. Obviously I've simplified both environments, but you get the idea. Controlled for volume, there's a reason that traveling by air is orders of magnitude safer than traveling by car. Flying is almost 96x safer depending on how you work the numbers, and that margin of safety isn't just because the airlines have two pink bodies up front rather than one. Edit to add: Pilots can safely fly an RPA, even in a busy stack, with a 2-second delay in control inputs. Do you think you could remotely pilot your car through an urban commute with that same 2-second delay and maintain an acceptable safety record over time? You mean like a single commercial pilot flying passengers in a single-engine airplane? Something that preposterous would never be allowed by the august regulators at the FAA!

  9. The "F" Word; There are only 11 times in history where the "F" word has been considered acceptable for use. They are as follows: 11. "What the @#$% do you mean, we are sinking?" -- Capt. E.J. Smith of RMS Titanic, 1912 10. "What the @#$% was that?" -- Mayor Of Hiroshima, 1945 9. "Where did all those @#$%ing Indians come from?" -- George Custer, 1877 8. "Any @#$%ing idiot could understand that." -- Albert Einstein, 1938 7. "It does so @#$%ing look like her!" -- Picasso, 1926 6. "How the @#$% did you work that out?" -- Pythagoras, 126 BC 5. "You want WHAT on the @#$%ing ceiling?" -- Michelangelo, 1566 4. "Where the @#$% are we?" -- Amelia Earhart, 1937 3. "Scattered @#$%ing showers, my ***!" -- Noah, 4314 BC 2. "Aw c'mon Monica. Who the @#$% is going to find out?" -- Bill Clinton, 1998 1. "There is no @#$%ing way Trump will ever become President" -- HilaryClinton 2016

  10. Given the final choices of the last Presidential election, I still, delightedly, fall back on my ABCs...Anybody But Clinton. Trump should've announced Comey's firing with "after careful consideration and listening to the advice from Shumer, Waters, et al, I fired him." Maxine Waters for President, 2020! (rings all the progressive bells - minority, woman, dumber than a box of rocks. Winning!!)

  11. You guys forget that the overall goal of any Russian influence is just to cast doubt upon the validity of our democratic process. To them, ultimately it doesn't matter who won the election. They have ways to make both of our main candidates look bad. They also know that our political process is so polarized that the "losing" party will happily dance to the tune of electoral illegitimacy. As long as the US electoral process is damaged, Russia meets its goal. I don't know what's so hard to understand about this, but here we are bickering about foreign electoral influence like it's some sort of surprise. YGBSM. 12. There is a reason why the AF calls them RPAs instead of UAVs. We couldn't even figure out how to have a pilot control multiple Predators, I don't think having a single pilot control multiple airliners will happen anytime soon. However, the profit motive is a powerful force and when it is private enterprise driving the innovation it could be developed at a much faster pace. I just hope it's after I hit 65. 14. Pretty sure he meant the party planning and ball washing, not the RPA flying, had nothing to do with the AF's core mission.

  15. I got a hold of an Air Force Reserve recruiter and he replied with the following: Thank you for your interest in the Air Force Reserve! At this time there are a very limited number of available vacant positions to become a commissioned officer. Is this true or is he trying to make up his enlisted qouta?

  16. Every military pilot wannabe on every JQP post/Baseops thread who is trying to get into the AF doesn't realize that the AF has NO problems getting people in. For years, Big Blue has had the pick of the litter for the best UPT applicants through OTS, ROTC and USAFA. All the OTS guys and gals going through my UPT base have all had a ton of flying experience, impressive school and extracurricular records and many had experience in the defense industry. Had one chick who was literally a rocket scientist. It isn't a recruiting issue. It's easy to find a 22 year old with a college degree who wants to get paid to see the world and fly fast in the most advanced aircraft the world has. The AF just can't keep them after they see the price tag and the other crap they will have to put up with for the other 98% of their career. Sent from my iPhone using Baseops Network Forums

  18. Hi everyone, I have been debating for a little while going into the guard/reserve. Currently I am working as a regional pilot based out of O'Hare. I am 27 and hold a bachelor's degree but my GPA is sitting at 2.6. I served 5 years in the Army guard as an engineer (enlisted). For my total time I have around 1700 hours with roughly 600 in the CRJ. My questions to you all is, do I stand a chance? I really don't care what I fly, heck it can be a Cessna 172. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.

  19. Thank you for the info. Not trying to be picky again with air frames but heavies is my top choice actually. Really appreciate the encouragement.

  20. At the airlines I feel like it's a revolving door. You might fly with someone today and never see that person again. In a way I miss the tight community. As for why I want to come in as a pilot? I want to gain experience. Also I been told the community is very close. I would like to find a place were my wife can volunteer and we can call it a second family.

  21. Probably the wrong forum (there's one specifically for Guard/Reserve stuff), but yeah, you probably stand a very good chance if you score decently on the AFOQT and TBAS, aren't a tool, and have decent records from your enlisted time. You are closing in on the age when some units will not want to hire you. 30 is the magic birthday at which you must have started UPT, unless you receive a waiver. The process to get to UPT is long enough that many units will require you to be no older than 28.5 to apply/interview, so you've got a limited window to find a unit, or go unsponsored Reserves. That said, if you're not picky about airframes or locations you can probably find a heavy unit that will take you quickly, and/or give you a waiver if you need it.
