Timeline and programmatic fuckery will happen with either company anyways. 10-15 years before that thing is combat capable - sad, but I don’t think I’ll be proven wrong unless some serious changes are made to our acquisitions process.

Making one really good platform and resting on our laurels only works under certain geopolitical situations. In the realm of F aircraft: As awesome as Raptor is, thinking it will be the only high end fighter we need for 30+ years was a weakness, especially after the Gates debacle.
