December 25, 2024Dec 25 A little history, a WW2 destroyer almost killed FDR. This WWII Naval Ship Was So Unlucky, It Almost Killed FDR - Task & Purpose

December 26, 2024Dec 26 Well…it could’ve been an airliner, full of civvies… The Russians sure do like keeping that tradition alive, on Christmas Day no less (admittedly it’s not Orthodox Christmas yet). But I’m sure it’s NATO’s fault.
December 26, 2024Dec 26 I've read two first hand accounts being passed around. Wild and high SA to pull the handle prior to the SM2 fuzing. LOL @ "A dude pulls a Penny Benjamin," "I immediately commit myself in the 5 wet to try to get a kill with the 9x in the big girl," "Then I remembered I had a zyn can in my G suit pocket. Pulled it out and put the remaining 3 salt water soaked zyns in my mouth and high fived the rescue swimmer."

December 26, 2024Dec 26 I read them as well and got a good laugh. I expect nothing less from young, steely eye warriors. As an old washed up, has been, I'm super thankful for these guys quick thinking under pressure. I know there are some very happy parents/wives/gf's/side hides/kids back home as well. Hope they peel back the onion until they've extracted ounce of lessons learned. Edited December 26, 2024Dec 26 by SocialD

January 1Jan 1 Author They apparently launched on 2 as well but timely radio call by LSO to carrier captain shut it all down. Good lord.
January 1Jan 1 I’m just going to remind the room, this would happen more often if the Army had more give a shit with its tactical air defense. The only reason this isn’t happening regularly is we just don’t have that many Patriots in service.Plan accordingly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
January 1Jan 1 More details are slowly leaking out... Dash 1 was the tanker with FIVE external tanks for a recovery evolution from what was an actual DCA mission. Dude has no countermeasures. Pilot and WSO observe Gettsyburg launch and come to the conclusion the missile is tracking them. Pilot preemptively ejects both. Dash two observes a second launch and begins defensive maneuvers down to 100' AGL. As noted LSO figures out what has happened and calls the boss to KIO.

January 2Jan 2 Have 0/5 times gotten a positive impression after talking to Patriot guys. It’s one of those weird job where despite having a higher GT score requirement to assess to it, it’s viewed as a dead end branch so it attracts very little talent. The talent that is there is typically the network guys who put it in link or get the Sentinel up on the feeds for CPCE not the actual air defenders that run the system. You’re not going to meet somebody at West Point sticking Air Defense in their branch priority sheet, and that’s been true for decades. This is one of the reasons when we have these discussions about CUAS in the air littoral and the big Blue guys push back like “that’s an Army job,” I’m here reminding you that you really don’t want to leave these people alone here if you want to live in that space with them after they “figure it out.” Systems like Coyote being good examples that should scare the hell out of all us manned platforms from and aspect of authority to launch and ability to discriminate. For us the TTP is going to be don’t go anywhere near anything with an M-SHORAD or Patriot (or any BLUFOR in the dark really) because frankly we have as much trust in them being able to tell I’m not a Hind as the Eagle drivers.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
January 2Jan 2 I’ve always said the AF should take over AD beyond the smaller stuff meant for direct defense of ground maneuver elements. Never been impressed with the Patriot world.
January 3Jan 3 Remember that Tornado the patriot dudes took out during OIF? They seem to get at least one good guy every war.

Unfortunately those didn’t always end as one sided incidents.Hacker can give specific details but one of those blue in blues led to a follow on that killed 3 Joes in an M270 MLRS that was mid-ID’d and struck as a result of Air Defense screwing up.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
