I know one of the pilots from being around the industry the past several years, so I’m especially glad it turned out this way, all things considered. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-02-07/wa-boeing-737-plane-crash/101939554 Really glad to see both pilots made it out, that looked ugly.
February 9, 20232 yr Saw that plane here last summer in KBOI during fire season. Glad the crew is alright.

February 10, 20232 yr Those guys look like they could definitely use a Tooeys Old! It's gnarly to walk away from something like that.
January 10Jan 10 @Shaft34 I hope you guys are staying as safe as possible given the horrific conditions out there in CA. Also hope you guys are able to start rolling those fires back soon.
January 10Jan 10 Thanks for asking Dirk. My base is closed for the season with the aircraft in annual maintenance, so I'm not down there now. They did staff some additional tankers to help the next couple of weeks, but some family obligations are keeping me at home. Most of our pilots are off for the season, so I don't think they'll have a problem finding enough to fill in. Wish I could. It looked pretty raunchy with those winds, the Santa Ana's aren't that fun to fly in when they are ripping. Very tragic fires!

January 15Jan 15 Hasn't anyone in CA thought about how much carbon those helicopters and planes are putting into our atmosphere? Such selfishness just to put out a little fire...

During a past fire, the water droppers asked to use sea water since it was closer and plentiful but were told no because the salt water wasn't environmentally compatible. I don't think they are complaining about salt water now, however.
