This reminds me of the pilot only track AMC experimented with a few years ago. Came with a mandatory ADSC taking you to 20 years of service. 1 applicant…one! It is clear to me the Air Force isn’t nor has ever been serious about the pilot retention crisis. “Good enough” and optics seems to drive most staffs these days. The Chinese are laughing at us, the Russians would be too if they weren’t so inept at actually waging conventional war.

Let’s reevaluate in a year. 100% agree with you with regards to DeSantis vis a vis Trump. We get Trump’s policies without the drama, theoretically. Trump’s behavior after the election was an embarrassment. Had he walked away in grace he would still be held as an icon by half the population.

I figured it wasn’t just pilots, but more customer service reps. My question is why have airlines not already done this? As it is it’s impossible to get many to work those jobs post Covid. I am not sure there is a legal precedence to force a company to hire workers. You can incentivize, but forced hiring seems to set a bad precedent we don’t want to live with.

People WANT to go to IFS now? Man how times have changed. I had just finished my PPL and still had to go back when it was a washout program. It ended up being a fun time with some cool bros but not sure it was worth the investment for the Air Force. My understanding is now it’s more of a teaching program. Hopefully they got rid of some of the civilian IPs with sticks up their bums.

I know a lot of people don’t like Fingers but I think he did his very best to undo the damage Norty and Welsh did (mostly Norty). Under Fingers there was a focus on the squadrons, elimination of BPZ and school selects, reduced rated manning on staffs etc. Cultural changes and frozen middle management take time to overcome unfortunately. Not really sure about the current chief, seems more about talk and optics.

Not a huge fan but the one thing I respected about John McCain is that he would publicly roast the Air Force for their incompetence. The famous video of McCain giving it to Welsh over the A-10 retirement debacle is priceless; as a result we still have the A-10. Kinzinger, take notes, find your sack and hold people accountable.

Cutting costs, and also fixing the pilot manning crisis the Air Force created by pumping through more UPT students since they have all but given up on retaining on the other end. We do this to ourselves. I’ll be standing by the data points on MAF 2.0/2.5 students from my FTU and line bros.
