  7. If that's how they do an elephant walk then they're doing it wrong too. Mx should be generating jets to the wartime config in a designated time period. Every jet that taxis down the runway should be ready to take off meeting the wartime MESL. An elephant walk should be indistinguishable from a combat generation until the moment the jets get to the runway.

  10. The Europeans made a BFM jet John Boyd would be proud of (aside from that pesky canopy bow and the fact that it costs 10x what an F-16 did). It's a shame it took them 25 more years to do it. As mentioned, this is nothing new for them, considering the same group of countries joined the swing-wing fad 10 years after the F-111, MiG-23 and Su-24 were introduced. There's nothing like spending twice as much to buy a fighter designed for the last war. As for our Air Force, it seems like we don't know which war we plan to fight. If we need an FI gap-filler that is already in production and has lower lifecycle costs than the F-35, the F-16 seems like the obvious choice. If we just want a cruise missile platform then buy more F-15EXs. If we're going to be bombing what's left of Babylonia for the next 50 years then let's buy some AT-6s or AT-7s so that we can save a couple bucks on gas while we drop $69,000 bombs on used Toyota HiLuxs. No doubt we won't choose any of these options and instead will try to develop a fighter than can do everything better and cheaper. At least we'll see that fighter before the European 5.5 gen fighter makes its debut. 🙄

You've never dropped a bomb or gone to the merge so you really can't know yet. Just work hard and have an open mind.

  21. Be that as it may, no HR professional or accountant signs up to work for Deloitte for a year in Southwest Asia, another year in Korea and 3 years in Clovis, NM. Until the Air Force is willing/able to shed it's largest detriment to QOL -- bad locations -- it will not be competitive in recruiting professionals who want to reap the rewards of excelling in a particular career field. It has to focus on the one thing that makes it unique: service. I also struggle to see how further divorcing the MSG from the Ops Group will benefit anyone.
  22. I'm not sure how the author of that article managed to use so many words and still say nothing intelligible. Any clue what she was getting at? The only thing I learned is that we should be saying "airpeople" instead of airmen and that warrior culture is another form of white fragility and toxic masculinity. God help us in the next war.
  23. There was also a loss of directional control during a form takeoff at Sheppard two years ago that resulted in ejection. One of the pilots involved told me he remembered being directly under the other aircraft. I believe many of these close calls are not captured in the stats.
  24. Fingertip and formation approaches are especially useful skills for getting under the weather after an avionics failure. Once the bad jet gets under the weather you can just drag or go around for another approach
