  1. Mexico Beach got absolutely wrecked. Very minimal damage up at Eglin/Hurlburt area.
  2. I’ll be damned...U-2 right out of UPT* *caveats in U-2 thread.
  3. Not sure how some gender androgynous Cannonite having a stroke turned into bashing the AF and UPT product, but that’s Baseops for ya.
  4. I actually disagree with those looking for fleet diversity. It simplifies your maintenance a ton and reduces the end cost in hours and $$. Reference the Navy when they had A-7, A-6, F-14, S-3, E-2, F-18 and helos on the carriers. All but the Hornets and the E-2 are now gone with the only real loss in capability the F-14 Phoenix and S-3 ASW. The reinvestment allowed for newer Super Hornets and Growlers and reduced the MX hours per flight hour fleet wide. I’ll admit, a bit of an apples to oranges comparison but I think that’s a great example of consistency in MDS vice diversity.
  5. So I’m reading into your post quite a bit and I think the root cause of where a lot of your unhappiness is coming from is your wife’s discontent at the lack of career opportunity coupled with the young kid in a place where you have no control of your life. I would recommend you talk with a chaplain or use military one source for some free counseling to figure out what’s really going on and find a way forward. I’ve seen plenty of guys (“asking for a friend”) where their wife is miserable at home and makes them miserable and project that misery on the AF. Given your youth, I think it may be more of this than actually being jaded at the injustices of the AF. YMMV.
  6. The disillusionment I see happens when you’re a couple years into the ops world and the guys that are out killing the mission and are great bros get left in the dust by dudes who can barely fly but are amazing at excel. Where it really crushes your will into a fine powder is when your year group school selects are released and the same bros referenced earlier are all non-selects and the excel wizards are first look types. Not always the case, but it does happen a lot.
  7. He also said in his next sentence “I want you to feel like you are a part of a community … the squadron is the place where that community exists." Do you get the sense of community at whatever airline you’re at? I highly doubt it. But the hilarious part of all this to me is that we’ve all got a very lucrative skill set and the AF seems to be trying to do this on the cheap. I love the camaraderie and know that I will miss it. But the financial differences are just too great to turn them down for patriotism when there’s no will to actually end this boondoggle of a “war” we’re in.
  8. If you want to do anything to benefit a career in aviation, I would recommend becoming an expert at instrument flying. It doesn’t matter if you fly a Raptor, a C-5 or anything in between, good instrument skills are absolutely vital. However, given your level of experience, I wouldn’t worry about hiring a CFI for that. Just remember it down the road.
  9. So this is a possibly very stupid question, but why is it called “contact” phase? Why not called “basics” or something? I’ve never understood that.
  10. Article said he was dishonorably discharged.
  11. Pretty sure you mean KE=1/2mv^2 Or maybe that’s my public school education steering me wrong. Whatever, I know how to make the houses get bigger or smaller in the airplane.
  12. Had the wife deliver a note to the mistress to avoid investigators. That’s ballsy.
  13. Do you Viper guys land out of SFO’s? Just curious.
  14. I personally would hope that commissioned officers entrusted with training other officers with flying multi-million dollar airplanes would be mature enough to not put themselves in these types of situations. If their nature is to get laid and damn the consequences, then invest in that youporn premium and jerk yourself into a stupor. For the love of God, don’t shit where you eat.
  15. There ain’t many. That’s been one of my issues with this thing on AFSOC the whole time. The Bob’s at corporate are only interested in IFF graduates to fly it. Why? You aren’t going to be employing the thing in BFM. You aren’t going to be doing ACM. You are going to be sitting in the CAS wheel and doing strikes. If only there was some AFSOC aircraft with that skill set...
  16. If that’s what’s happening, how difficult is it to not sleep with students? JFC. Just don’t do it! These idiots are going to leave good leaders in their wake because they are jackasses.
  17. HBO needs to do that, for sure.
  18. I’ve known him for 7 years and I can assure you that he is a total dick eating fag that is unfairly lucky (first pick in fantasy football draft somehow).
  19. Lmao the perfect retort to the use of the word “faggot” is to tell someone to “eat a dick” from the moral high ground hahahahaha! That was classic.
  20. “I was never into fashion, even though I was a typical fruit cup” LOL. “I have many LGBT friends here, and if you can stand at attention properly and speak with proper etiquette, that’s what it comes down to in the Navy,” he said. “No one tells me I’m too feminine. I’ve not once had a bad experience as a gay man in the military.” I’m glad to hear that. If he’s good at his job, good on him. Also, he has massive balls for doing this stuff in that environment.
  21. I thought that was about injecting heroin...
  22. Several guys in my AD unit are tatted up like crazy and it doesn’t bother anyone. I wouldn’t walk in and highlight the tattoos and make a big issue out of it for the hiring board, but be willing to talk about it if asked (which is unlikely).
  23. This discussion really reminds me of this scene from the movie “Moneyball” “You guys are talking the same old good body nonsense like we’re selling jeans.” From several sources that I trust, PIT needs a big overhaul or needs to go away. While some of that may be sour grapes, my experience tells me that a place full of passed over Majors and ROAD O-5’s leads to some serious stagnation.
  24. Reading that article, I’m interested to see what actually occurs. It sounds like Fingers is saying to ID guys that are good tactical leaders and develop that. I think that’s a great idea. I hope that doesn’t translate to the guy who has the best excel skills gets the #1 push like we’ve seen so often.
