  1. If you think SOF is some great panacea to CSAR, ask the Strike Eagle crews that flew in Desert Storm about that subject. I can history too!
  2. Other side of the river would’ve started the invasion of Mosul early by some SOF guys and helos.
  3. I wonder what the report/fallout would’ve been if this was an AMC crew, lol.
  4. I don’t think CSAR should go to AFSOC simply for the fact that if they came over, I can see CJSOAC’s and other SOF entities hijacking them to do more of an assault role and not protect their rescue role.
  5. Personal opinion is that SEALs look for and value different traits than Army SF. Army SF requires a much more intellectual approach and the members reflect that. SEALs have much more of a macho, insular culture from what I’ve seen. MARSOC are great and it’s pretty obvious working with them that they are more in line with Army SF mentality than SEALs. I suppose it comes down to mission with the UW of SF, AFO of MARSOC, and mass literary publication of the SEALs.
  6. This is where the military worship throughout the nation has unintended consequences. We should’ve gone hard with the diplomatic solution over a decade ago and doing the FID type missions to augment it*. The government doesn’t want to ever just tell DoD “no”. Problem is that the military is a hammer but we need to paint a portrait. You can use a hammer to construct the picture frame, but at some point you need to use a brush. *If you want to kill your way out of it, commit to that. I personally don’t think that’ll work but have a clear end state and put resources towards achieving it. An interesting book on the subject is “War on Peace” by Ronan Farrow. The book worships diplomacy a bit too much in my opinion, but it’s very interesting.
  7. On what airframe? I’d say what you see is pretty accurate.
  8. Uhhh....why the hell would they not relocate to Eglin?
  9. For the CV-22, their ops tempo is very high. They’re great at certain things, not so much at others. Their SOF specific mission is very important, but it’s pretty different from the CAF 60’s. For the rescue side, there will be plenty of “sitting around waiting for the call”. I hope those dudes never have to do their jobs, but I will name my subsequent children after them if they after have to come pick me up. *Not a helo guy, just a big fan.
  10. And you couldn’t come up with a better name for a woman getting lost while driving?! Those write themselves!
  11. Hostile renaming for the Flight CC to “Can U Not Talk?”
  12. But she was trying to recover from her mistake that she made after being in the AF for 6 months! The General who had served over 2 decades maybe embarrassed her! He deserves to be fired! /sarcasm The suicide thing is definitely odd. But in today’s culture, I would almost guarantee it was the “sexual harassment” that got him fired.
  13. This is a great thread to emphasize the importance of delivering actual feedback. Most dirt bags in your squadrons probably think they’re doing a good job. People don’t earn wings (or become 14N’s, etc) and get operational without wanting to do well at stuff. Not everyone has enough self SA to realize when they’re missing the mark. I love this quote attributed to Nick Saban (not sure he said it). “If you want to make everybody happy, don’t be a leader. Sell ice cream.” You think passed over good dudes would rather be casual acquaintances with you or have you tell them what they’re doing wrong and give them a productive way forward?
  14. My dad flew tankers, fighters, and helos. It can be done and has been done by quite a few people. Some dudes in tankers now would make great fighter pilots. Some pilots flying fighters now should be on tankers. Your assignment out of UPT is exactly that; an assignment. It’s not your destiny.
  15. At Hurlburt today, AFSOC had the celebration of MSgt Chapman with an airshow and several other events. It was pretty awesome to see all the people out there celebrating a great American. Kudos to the performers and to all the bros that came out for it (special shout to the Strike Eagle with MSgt John Chapman on the nose, nice touch).
  16. It ebbs and flows. Honestly, most of the people that apply for WIC and TPS would do it even with ADSC ramifications (some, not all). Look at the PSDM for 19A that released not long ago in the Strike Eagle. Shit load of applicants. And for pilots on a 10 year commitment, it’s pretty rare that a 3 year ADSC takes you past (or at least significantly past) the 10 year UPT. It does happen when Majors go through or prior FAIPs or something, but if I had to guess I’d say it’s less than a quarter of applicants. CSO’s and other career fields, completely different story.
  17. KRCA seems like it’d be a great UPT base (if added 2 more runways). Powder River MOAs are close, airspace is wide open, tons of ramp space, pretty good weather year round (obviously some winter issues).
  18. If you fucked that up, my fellow card carrying members of the Bag Protection Association (BPA), will find you. Hopefully we’ll be able to pay our dues if you answered question 2 correctly.
  19. You’re not a big fan of the Alamo, eh?
  20. What about the eligibility part that says you must not be active duty or reserve?
  21. Mexico Beach got absolutely wrecked. Very minimal damage up at Eglin/Hurlburt area.
  22. I’ll be damned...U-2 right out of UPT* *caveats in U-2 thread.
