  1. Fortunately my prior squadron (61 AS) just returned from Afghanistan. Prayers and wishing it's not bad. Reports say twelve people, five of the dead were U.S. service members that were the crew of the aircraft, five were civilian contractors who were passengers, and two were local Afghan civilians who were killed on the ground. God bless.
  2. Has anyone used FTI in Denver to get their 737 type? I've met two guys that got their types/ATPs and said the program was excellent. However, I never got a firm answer if the GI Bill covered the cost of training.
  3. Snuggie, that's great news. I just PCS'd overseas this summer, which prevented me from accomplishing the practical. Now I don't have to worry about Downtown Aviation being booked up. Anyway you could PM me her contact info?
  4. I've heard that the F-117 has been flying since it's retirement. Pics prove it. Now here's an explanation. http://intercepts.defensenews.com/2014/11/we-now-know-why-the-f-117-is-still-flying/
  5. Can we update the title of the thread to "Saddle up for Syria? Or Operation Deny Christmas '14"? F-22s popped their cherry, finally.

  7. Anyone heard of this? http://www.airforcemag.com/DRArchive/Pages/2014/August%202014/August%2026%202014/Moody-Selected-as-Afghan-A-29-Training-Site.aspx
  8. So much for the pre-flight... http://www.kake.com/news/national/headlines/Body-of-child-stowaway-found-in-US-cargo-plane-269083371.html
  9. What I get from this article: "...a vote to "cut military pensions instead of cutting welfare for illegal immigrants." Yep, apparently illegals are more important than US service-members. UFB.
  10. Most likely you'll be working in the HOA-Air Component. If you're an O-4 or above, you'll eventually move into the West End. Which means own room and own bathroom. I lived in a "wet" CLU, which was my own room with a shared bathroom with one other dude. Not bad at all compared to what the lower ranking E's had for living conditions. Weather isn't all that bad if you're there from Oct-Apr. There was a pretty good selection of alcohol, but the new commanding general wanted to tighten the reins on quite a few things on camp. Off-base excursions use to be frequent, but the use of GOVs for other-than-official business was coming to end when I left.
  11. Tusker Pretty good and surpised that it is. I've had my share since I've been here. Will I miss it? No.
  12. Ship life sucks. I've been working with a bunch of Navy and Marine aviators out here and they can't stand living on a boat. The USMC LNOs dread heading back to the boat when the MEU heads out. Interestingly enough, USMC KC-130s are quite difficult to get into.
  13. With that float, you can ride the red wave all day.
  14. I wonder if the AC-130J will have the same armament as the AC-130U.
  15. Similar topic. Here's some pretty cool night photos of aircraft in a boneyard: http://lostamerica.com/photo-items/aviation-warehouse/
  16. This is some funny sh!t guys. I need a few laughs around this place.
  17. I heard AETC rescinded it through a friend. No supporting references though.
  18. Well, actually its 7.9" but 6.9 sounds better. Who's really measuring?
  19. Nah, he's not on here. But he's a good guy. There isn't anyone I know that doesn't like him or have good things to say about him.
  20. First pilot in my family as well. C-130 legacys so far with a J transition class scheduled next year. My brother is a C-130 loadmaster (E/Hs before the J he currently flies on). I guess C-130s run in our family (at least this generation).
  21. You aren't serious, are you? Yup, you are: http://www.andrews.a...sp?id=123298707 Not much different than this: http://www.saceliteguard.com/images/Light%20blue%20shirt%20with%20stars%20on%20scarf.jpg But not as cool as this: http://www.saceliteguard.com/images/Short%20sleeved%20blue%20shirt.jpg
  22. Yeah, but the AF can do a lot more with those majors and Lt Cols and there has been a considerable investment in the higher ranks than a Lt. The whole capt board is a joke. Believe it or not, each Lt has to be ranked by their senior rater when allotting DPs and Ps. The discriminators reside in the few TRs these LTs received from training. And you know what? Someone has to be number 1 out of whatever and someone has to be last. Crazy.
