Glock stock sights are basically worthless as anything other than dovetail protectors, the triggers are awful, and they insist on putting stupid finger grooves and oddly shaped humps in the wrong places. But a barely trained monkey can completely rebuild one in 15 minutes with less than $50 worth of parts. Glock has made its name with inexpensive guns that work well and are easy/cheap to maintain. The combo is a wet dream for a large organization, maintaining a shit load of guns, shot by non pistol shooters.

  3. People need to lay off the identity politics. You are not who you voted for, you are not a canned platform of unrelated "issues," you are not your f'ing party.

I guess they could be shot in the parking lot or the local mall food court?.... The correct answer for anyone that cares is, if you have an inkling that competing would be fun just go try whatever is closest. There will be plenty of not so good shooters where ever you go. Just tell them you're a newb and be safe. If you're in the Langley area, I'll roll with you.

More important than all the tactical ninja stuff is understanding the law of self defense.

Comparing a puppy mill course to a check the box course isn't a particularly useful exercise. Nor is expecting the level of dedication of personal time of a competitive shooter. Not having a clear, and realistic expectation of the course's output is part of the problem with the current M9 program.

AF M9 qual is the puppy mill of firearms training. I'd bet the cop shop could get volunteers from on base to get checked out and teach a course of some sort. And it would be better than the M9 qual course.

The issue with the flimsy nylon holsters is they collapse after you draw the pistol. Reholstering requires two hands and is difficult to do without sweeping your hand with the muzzle. Kydex holsters are nice and very fast to draw, but like the super stiff belts, take some getting used to. Same story with appendix carry.

For a first belt buy a quality leather gun belt of "medium" stiffness. You're going to want something stiffer than your average belt, but the steel core or even worse the hoola hoop like webbing are an aquired taste.

Stay away from the gimmicky crap. If you've never carried before, I recommend a good leather IWB plus a good belt. Unless you tuck in your shirt frequently stay away from j hooks.
  11. It isn't Friday, but 46 years ago today a task force of helos, prop aircraft and Special Forces raiders took off, blacked out and off comm under the cover ESCORT and SEAD, a distraction provided by the largest carrier night operation of the Vietnam war, and penetrated into North Vietnam to a target less than 25nm from Hanoi, arguably the densest integrated air defense then in existence.

ATIS, are you looking for something in particular or just trying some shit out?

Looks like it would be difficult to get a good grip during the draw.
  15. For now, there aren't many guidance kits in the inventory. They were purchased from the Navy to answer a UON, there's more coming but they're a POM cycle out.
  16. I wasn't kidding about pilot absorbtion. That's probably the only reason this is gaining traction again.
  17. I thought they just sent a private out to catch it. ETA: Pretty sure brabus is talking about APKWS not GBU-12

On full auto AKMs there's a rate reducer in the trigger group that delays the reset to allow the bolt to finish any bouncing before letting the hammer go again.

This is how I'd probably go about it: Find a kitchen scale and weigh the LWRC buffer. Buy the carbine buffer that weighs the same as a starting point. Assuming the LRWC buffer has a roll pin holding it together like a normal buffer, you could take it apart and see what type of weights are in it and compare those to what's inside a normal buffer. Or call LRWC. Standard carbine buffer is ~3 oz, H1 is ~3.8, H2 is ~4.6, H3 is ~5.5

Something else to consider in this mess is why the "spring guide" in an AR-15 is called a "buffer." The BCG will tend to bounce or rebound out of battery slightly after chambering a round. It's not a huge deal in semi-auto unless the the action spring can't push it back closed, in full auto or other shenanigans that replicates that rate of fire it could cause a round to fire out of battery. The weights in the buffer give the ass end of the carrier a slap as it starts to bounce to keep the bolt closed.

In general, the buffer weight has more to do with gas port size for length. Most barrels are over gassed to allow it to work with all ammo. If it were me, I'd buy an adjustable gas block and a carbine buffer.
