  1. I haven't heard anything on that front.

On full auto AKMs there's a rate reducer in the trigger group that delays the reset to allow the bolt to finish any bouncing before letting the hammer go again.

This is how I'd probably go about it: Find a kitchen scale and weigh the LWRC buffer. Buy the carbine buffer that weighs the same as a starting point. Assuming the LRWC buffer has a roll pin holding it together like a normal buffer, you could take it apart and see what type of weights are in it and compare those to what's inside a normal buffer. Or call LRWC. Standard carbine buffer is ~3 oz, H1 is ~3.8, H2 is ~4.6, H3 is ~5.5

Something else to consider in this mess is why the "spring guide" in an AR-15 is called a "buffer." The BCG will tend to bounce or rebound out of battery slightly after chambering a round. It's not a huge deal in semi-auto unless the the action spring can't push it back closed, in full auto or other shenanigans that replicates that rate of fire it could cause a round to fire out of battery. The weights in the buffer give the ass end of the carrier a slap as it starts to bounce to keep the bolt closed.

In general, the buffer weight has more to do with gas port size for length. Most barrels are over gassed to allow it to work with all ammo. If it were me, I'd buy an adjustable gas block and a carbine buffer.

Ref the ghost guns thing: If you like tinkering, you'd probably be better off in the long run buying a decent mill and building a cnc conversion. At least you can sell an actual mill once you get bored with it.
  9. LAAR makes a shit load of sense to increase absorbable cockpits.
  10. I actually really like the idea of the sabbatical program. LIkewise, being able to leave active duty and move the the reserve and back again. I think the biggest thing is killing the golden path, early or on-time, up or out system. Then again, O-6 pay is shit compared to what a comparable job pays working for Lockheed

Like Warrior said, it's way cheaper. It's also easier to work on some skills when you get rid of the recoil and ear pro, etc. Plus I can dry fire for 15 minutes, go do something else then come back again later for another 15 minutes.

Looks used, yes? If it is used I'd consider replacing the trigger return spring. I've broken two on my P-09, one was because I bent it too many times screwing with the trigger pull weight, the other just wore out. It broke around 4000 rounds, probably somewhere around 25k trigger pulls. So it isn't something to really worry about, just something to toss into the preventative maintenance list. Also, the reduced power springs from Cajun Gun Works seem to last a bit longer than stock.

Any gun that looks like it came out of a science fiction movie is a win. Space guns rule.

There's nothing wrong with the P320 or an XD, if you like em you're good to go. If you're into a hammer fired gun give CZ and the other Sig models a look too.

What, if anything do you/your wife not like about the Ruger? Do you ever plan to carry the new gun? You mentioned two striker fired guns, is it safe to assume you don't like a traditional double/single action pistol? There are a lot of really good pistols on the market. My nightstand gun is a CZ P-09. CZs have a tendency to break trigger return springs, broke my first in the P-09 at around 4k rounds with probably 10k dry fire trigger pulls. It has never jammed except for when I screwed up my reloads.

Is that off the MSRP? that's the street price for most Vortex scopes anyways. But still good to know, would have been better to know two weeks ago but whatever...... For a scope with 6x magnification range and 300ish bucks it's a hell of a deal. It's heavy and there's some minor distortion, see point one again. Even at 1x it's still a scope, not a red dot so the focal distance is to the scope not to the target. You can focus on the target but the reticle will be out of focus, it still works fine that way but something to keep in mind. I hate shitty scopes but any nit-picking with the optical quality is just that in this case. I'd buy from Vortex again.

Had a busted ass Stag carbine. New barrel, muzzle brake and blemished free float tube from Brownells, throw in a new scope for good measure and wallah! 7.3 pounds unloaded and the brake spits blast back in your face, but it shoots flat. First AR I've put together myself, no idea if it's actually a winner yet since I've only been able to shoot frang through it (flyers, there be flyers) and only 25 yards.

Probably a lot of "boutique" manufacturers like Cabot, and the growth of the AR market since 2004.
