Everything else is support.

Bottom line is that UTAs are used for our drill weekends and FTPs are for currency and local flight training. If big daddy AF wants the Guard and Reserves help he is going to have to pay for it with man days. The AF apparently thinks they can do it all on their own for now. What sucks is my section alone basically laid off 6 or 7 bums. These guys had actually been working and not scamming the system. They are instructors who were training students in an active duty FTU squadron as well as our squadron.

Does anyone know what the deal is with the Guard/Reserve man days? I read an article today about the tanker units in the northeast having to cancel their support of the tanker bridge over the Atlantic because they do not have man days. Our unit (AETC) has been told there are absolutely no MPA days available in the foreseeable future. This affects our part time guys who are wanting to bum with us or go fly with our active duty counterparts here in the C-130 FTU at Little Rock. It seems to be an issue across the board.

Ahhh the period. Women losing their sanity one red drip at a time.

This is what is wrong with the AF. The AF has been trying to make everyone feel like some kind of warrior for a long time now. We have the creed and now another stupid motto. They are trying to make everyone even. Everyone is a warrior. This is a large part of why the shoe clerk feels like he has power. So which of the Fly, Fight or Win part of the slogan does the shoe clerk fit into? I don't know about you, but I take warriors to work. That is what we do in the Herc. I am no warrior. Last time I checked I am not kicking in doors in some village in Afghanistan. To me, those are the warriors.

T-Bird mishap pilot receives CSAF safety award
lloyd christmas replied to lloyd christmas's topic in Squadron Bar
The only one I can think of that crashed as a T-Bird was good ole Merrill McPeak. I can not say that he went on to do great things..... -
Well played.

Reminds me of my Joint Forge rotation to Ramstein 2005. The maintainers had to tie the chock ropes in bowties, make the cord to the power cart come off the airplane at a 90 degree angle and put the number three prop blade EXACTLY straight down. The maintainers would get woke up if Doc saw any infractions on his early morning jog down the flight line. We were also forbidden to mix the green and blue Opel vans in the parking lots. If there were different sizes of vans we had to taller tap them when parking. Combat Proud baby! How do people like this get promoted?

Just curious if this is the same guy that crashed as a Thunderbird at Mt Home? CSAF Individual Safety Award - Lt. Col. Christopher Stricklin, 14th Flying Training Wing, Columbus Air Force Base, Miss. Colonel Stricklin led and managed flight, ground, and weapon safety programs for 3,000 personnel, including 20 essential safety personnel who provided over 3,120 annual hours of on-call service. As a direct result of his efforts, flight mishaps were reduced in nearly every category; down 50 percent in Class A, 70 percent in Class C, 44 percent in Class E, and 50 percent in Controlled Movement Area Violations. That is not true. Take a gander at the 76th Fighter Squadron at Moody AFB as an example. That squadron has one of the most rich histories of any flying unit. Part of the famous "Flying Tigers" in WWII. It was also an A-10 unit at England AFB for years and years. It became the 76th Space Operations Squadron until recently, when it was activated again at Moody AFB. They fly the A-10 once again. I trust and respect the views of the folks at Maxwell. I think they may be wrong this time though.
-
Incredible stories. Keep them up and thank you for your service.

Looks like an E model C-130.

I understand the need to have official historical data. The folks at Maxwell are actually pretty easy to work with and seem to enjoy what they do. Call them at (334)953-2395 and tell them who you are what you are doing. They will help out. As a side note, I stumbled on some info from one of our units C-130s. Rumor had it the aircraft was awarded two AF Crosses for a mission in Vietnam. I got in contact with the folks at Maxwell and they actually came up with the maintanence documents and the forward air controllers paperwork from Vietnam confirming the mission and the particular tail number. That is the kind of info they have at their disposal. If they can do that, they should easily connect the dots on your squadron's history for you.

I would say that your unit is a descendant of the 20 TASS that last operated out of Shaw AFB, SC. I say this based on the info gathered from your units public website and the dates listed there. Your unit was originally named Detachment 8, 507th Tactical Air Control Wing. The 507th was at Shaw until 1991. The 20 TASS was one of two flying squadrons under the wing. The other was the 21 TASS. They flew the A-37 and later the OV-10. It would make sense that the AF would have kept the 20 TASS history alive by moving it to Ft Drum. I do not think it is just coincidence that both your unit as Det 8 and the 20 TASS were both under the 507th TACW. It is just my opinion. I hope that helps.

Our unit has no money for a historian so it is one of my additional duties. I have a few contacts. Post the unit here or send me a PM.
-
Rumor is OT & E first. Get our guys qualified and then train folks as their units receive them. Same mission though. Instructor school and intial/mission qual. Just on the AMP.
-
The Arkansas Guard officially has it's first AMP airplane.

At a Guard base?????????????? How in the hell does this happen? You have to tell which unit.

How does the point system work for a AAM? I will have a mix of combat support missions and combat missions at the end of this current deployment. I will not have 20 between them though. Can you use the 70% rule for the first AAM even if you already have an AM or two? I have searched with google and on this site but can not find what I am looking for and the unit I am deployed with does not have any idea. Thanks in advance.

And there is the problem. I have an interesting perspective on this decline of the line between officer and enlisted. I am a current TSgt but am also the son of a retired O-6. I am a 130 loadmaster and he was a 130 pilot. He speaks the language and gives me insight into real old school leadership. I can assure you he reads this thread and is absolutely disgusted with the current leadership overseas. The AF is headed down a real slippery slope with this type of buffoonery in the AOR. It is almost like there are two different Air Forces. One stateside and the other is this laughed at bunch of morons in the AOR. When do these Air Forces converge? When does it become the norm that Es start harassing Os stateside? Why should a MSgt respect a Capt stateside when he doesn't have to respect him in the AOR? We should also keep in mind the level of authority and influence that these MSgts have over 18 and 19 year old AMN who will eventually be the enlisted leaders of this AF. As an NCO, I ask of all of you officers out there... put these Es in their place. Take back this AF. I have no problem doing my part as a E. Edit for drinking and posting... I leave for Bagram tomorrow.

What is the accident rate for folks getting run over by a bus? Has the accident rate gone down since the introduction of the reflective belt? My point is that these things are not usefull at all. They aren't good for a damn thing except giving powerless shoe clerks more power than they need. I have a complete lack of confidence in senior officers. How are they so blind that they allow the basic officer/enlisted relationship to completely fall apart. MSgts grabbing LTs trays at chow halls? Really?

Classic Thread - Security Forces (SFS) Tales
lloyd christmas replied to Ferg's topic in General Discussion
Let me set this up. I am at LRAFB but in the Guard. There is a four way stop that seperates the Guard facilities from the active duty side. For those that are familiar with LRAFB it is the intersection where the RF-101 and RF-84 are located. There is a cop that sits a ways away but can still see folks that roll the stop signs at the intersection. By the time he catches up with folks driving to the ops building, they are already in a parking spot and getting out of the car. We have a two story building and love to watch all of this unfold. We have had a couple old crusty LTCs just keep walking away from the SF AMN. Late last week we had one of our command post ladies get pulled for rolling the stop sign. It was suggested that we all set off our car alarms using the panic buttons on our key chains. There must have been 30 car alarms going off all around that dude in his SF pickup. He had no idea what to do and looked like a complete idiot. Not 20 minutes after this we had a mass email from the Guard SF guys asking us to behave and follow the rules on the base. The AD had obviously called them. Not 30 minutes after that I went to lunch through the same intersection and there were no less than four AD SF cars waiting in various parking lots with two more having already pulled somebody else over. Just goes to show how much time they have on their hands....
