Yeah I guess I was looking at it from the standpoint of a guaranteed $4300 check, or maybe earning close to that if I take terminal and try and fly. If I sit instead of fly I make zero, but if I sell it back I make $. Either way, while I work or take terminal I'm getting my BAH, etc, but it's the total amount I could earn at the end of the day that has be scratching my head. For example, if I take terminal and fly say for 10 days, I only earn roughly $2K on top of my normal pay check by the end of Sep. However if I sell my leave back, I get $4300 on top of my normal pay at the end of Sep. I can definitely understand if someone has full time lined up w/ a set pay check, but for the contract gig I don't have that.

This is the issue I'm debating on so please help me with my math. If I work all the way until my separation date and then sell 30 days of leave, I'd get roughly $4300 after 25% is taken out for taxes. If I do terminal instead and do a corporate contract flying job at $200/day, I'd have to fly 22 days to break even and/or come out ahead. To me it seems like the best option is to sell my leave back, rather than hope to fly 22+ days as a contract pilot which is not guaranteed. Is my math off, or is there something I'm missing?

Mypers shows 2004 11Ms as now ineligible under the FY14 matrix. Keeping my fingers crossed that AFPC will get to my PC app before 2005 becomes ineligible.

I wonder if they're gonna start denying those of us that applied to PC since they're clearing out all of the VSP apps. Anybody else hear anything on the PC side of the house?

Anyone getting approved w/out a position number initially? I know you ultimately need one to PC, but just to start the process is one required?

Sim IP and Reserve IP
ChkHandleDn replied to ChkHandleDn's topic in Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves
Good info, thanks. I didn't really even think of most that stuff. I just thought it'd be a good, stress-free way to earn a living until an airline or other gig came along. -
I did some searching, but no avail. I'm looking into the possibility of being a sim IP (GS-12 position) as well as a TR at a UPT base. For those of you that have done both, any pros and cons? Recommendations? Things you liked/didn't like? Would the pay be better, equal or worse than what I currently earn?

So if we're late-rated, does that mean our initial ADSC upon entering AD, or after UPT?

FY 14 Force Management Program (RIF, VSP, TERA)
ChkHandleDn replied to AOF_ATC's topic in General Discussion
Nope. Here's a copy of the email: "Gents, Col XXX attended a VTC today where it was announced that the AF is going to waive 550 pilot/flying ADSCs for VSP. There were no details on how many to which year groups, airframes, etc. BL - if you were still considering VSP but gave up on it when you heard they weren't going to waive any formal flying training ADSCs, the opportunity is again available. Please come see me if you are considering it. LtCol XXXX Commander, XXX" -

I got an email from my boss today saying that they will waive 550 pilot/flying ADSCs for VSP. There were no details on how many to which year groups, airframes, etc. though so take it with a grain of salt. Here's hoping. -
Expedited TSA Screening for Active Duty Military Effective 20 Dec
ChkHandleDn replied to a topic in Squadron Bar
Thanks! My reading comprehension on post #5 sucked. -
Anybody w/ the CHS reserves right now? How's the lifestyle w/ the reserves vs the active duty side of Chucktown? Similar trips? Same amount of BS? Are they looking to hire any prior C-17 guys?

Does anyone know if UPT studs, and in particular late-rate studs are vulnerable for all of this booshit too? -

For those of you in the market for another AR build, PSA has blemished lowers with LPKs for $99. https://palmettostatearmory.com/index.php/catalog/product/view/id/14223/s/blemished-psa-picto-lower-and-classic-lower-parts-kit/. I ordered one awhile back and couldn't find a single blem.

PSA always has good deals. I just picked up another stripped lower and LPK for $100 during one of their daily deals and just missed out on that M4 upper w/ BCG and charging handle for $300.

I particularly liked this gem on the website: "Please do not send any Boy Scout letter requests to General Yeager. As he receives over 500 per week; he cannot personally answer ALL of them, so he answers none."

I just finished mine. I think it came out great. Hoping to take it out to the range next weekend, so we'll see how she shoots. Should be a fun shooter at .20 cents/round.

Izhevsk, but unfortunately has non-matching serial numbers. And yes, I definitely agree, the M44 is much more fun to shoot than the 91/30. But they aren't kidding about corrosive ammo. I shot it earlier today and let it sit for about an hour, and no shit the bolt face started to show rust. Fortunately some Windex and boiling water did the trick. Regardless, this rifle is by far now one of my favorites. I have two 91/30s and am planning on sporterizing (Oh no!) one of them. I will be throwing on this stock: , and a Primary Arms 4-16X44 scope sitting on a Rock Solid Industries scope mount. Should be fun.

So I went in to my local gun shop to pick up my stripped lower I ordered from PSA and ended up leaving with this beauty, Mosin M44 carbine. Apparently they had just thrown it on their racks so I had some awesome timing.

Do you guys want to have a lot of land and space? If so, there are some nice homes sitting on large lots towards Caledonia, about 10-15 mins from base. You will be about 20 mins away from downtown Columbus though. However if you want to be closer to town, check out Sherwood Forest, Audubon Cove, and downtown itself.
