Since we’re in the Russia/Ukraine thread, I’m not going to debate taxes here with you. However, if you feel the answer to helping the crack addict to get off crack is to buy him more crack then we don’t have much to debate anyway. Certainly more need to pay their fair share, certainly more need to quit dodging the law and most certainly people need to quit taking advantage of others and contribute instead of leach off the system. But to increase the burden on law abiding, rule following citizens isn’t the answer. Lastly, I’m glad you feel you paid too little in taxes last year. Once again the fed, will be happy to take whatever you’d like to donate. I personally paid double your rate. That seems like plenty, wouldn’t you agree?

No problem. If you’re open to a suggestion, why not go over to the Reserve Squadron you’re attached to and talk to the pilots there? Get to know them and see when they’re hiring? Assuming you’re at a flying wing.

Or copy what you wrote and drop it right in that search bar and you’ll get all the info you can stand. Check out the threads here on AD UPT boards. The folks that just applied this year have tons of good and current info on there. Happy trails

You have great scores. Reapply and keep applying. You’re only 23, so you got some time. See if any units will let you come visit on a drill weekend, bring a bottle of booze for their bar, face time is key. When a unit tells you to enlist, it’s because a guard unit wants to know who they’re going to be stuck with. If you enlist there, it gives the guys a chance to get to know you. If you don’t want to enlist, then you’re going to have to get to know them some other way. The ANG pilot hiring process is still the very best hiring process in the DOD. We can be picky, and that’s a good thing. If you don’t know any pilots there, better start trying to make some friends.

As far as I know there’s nothing stopping you from applying. Go take your TBAS and get the process rolling.

Good looking guy on the right had some beautiful television preacher hair back then! Well done, Sir!! Thanks for sharing the photos.

No shit!! My taxes are plenty high, thank you. I’m certain the IRS will be willing to take however much more of your $ you feel is appropriate. What we have, here in the US, is a spending problem. Not a tax revenue problem.

Amen Brother Biff. Also, a quick search didn’t come up with any results, but if it’s already been posted I apologize, but the great Bud Anderson flew west a few days ago at the age of 102. A toast to the Old Crow and the last of the Triple Aces… https://www.nytimes.com/2024/05/18/us/bud-anderson-dead.html?smid=url-share

Guard members are not assigned staff tours in DC, or anywhere else besides your unit or state. There are plenty of people who volunteer for staff tours elsewhere, if one is interested. O-6 and up becomes quite competitive and might require you to take a non-flying job somewhere to achieve the rank, but if you just want to fly, plan on retiring as an O-5. And the absolute best part of the ANG, is being a DSG pilot you won’t even have any other squadron job other than pilot. Go fly at your airline, and go fly at your unit. Best of both worlds just being a pilot!

I’ve essentially turned into a single issue voter, and that is, “will anyone please do something about the invasion, of our own country that is currently happening??!!” Millions of people pouring into the US - unchecked, unmonitored, unvetted, and unregulated…I know, I know, pretty far out there political view. I must be a racist.

Does flying start feeling like a job after a while?

Well said, except for this part -

If someone gets scared away because of anonymous online posts, then he was probably not gonna cut it anyway. This isn’t a USAF recruiting website. Yeah, a bunch of us are old and tired of some of the bullshit. However, I don’t think any pilot hates the flying part. Your posts are super weird. Are you a pilot? -
That all checks, but thought I should point out, that’s how you make kids.

Dude, it’s so bad. Areas I used to go for a pleasant run in, on layovers just a few short years ago, have turned into absolute unrecognizable cesspools. It has done wonders for my mile time, however, as I’m running for my fuckin life.

If it weren’t for the fingernails, I would’ve swore that was your dick, @Biff_T

Excellent post by @FDNYOldGuy well said and laid out clearly. To @DeskDriver2023: you seem to have a good attitude. Keep grinding. I know it’s a very frustrating process, if you’re wanting to fly anything painted grey and paid for by Uncle Sam, apply everywhere. Most will agree the ANG is the best of what’s left. If heavies are interesting to you, I’d highly recommend you enlist as a Loadmaster, Boom Operator or some other enlisted flying position. My buds in ANG heavy units will all agree the best chance of getting picked up there is be a bro who they’ve flown with. Hang in there, happy hunting.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a year and a half of rushing is just getting started. I know it seems like an eternity, while in your 20’s, but if you’re a gov employee, as you stated, then you certainly should understand the glacial pace the system moves in. Have you interviewed anywhere more than once? You do realize that guard units typically select pilots only once per year? So in a year and a half you haven’t even been through the cycle more than once. Other than that, the advice offered to all the others on similar threads still holds true: -Widen your net (Heavies, Reserves, USAF, USN, USMC) -Enlist in the unit -Practice your interview skills -Get more flt time -Polish up your resume -Network

Are helo pilots naturally more creative, or something? Those patches are better than all the others posted on here…Skid marks cracked me up.

Exactly! Throw in a couple more Chinese hot air balloons and you’ll be giving Dick Bong a run for his money.
