  1. You guys are acting like common sense will have something to do with the basing decision.

  2. You know, I think Welsh couldn't have done it better to show just how BAD of a policy Blues Monday was. If he had just come out and unilaterally said "no mas" for it, it could have been painted as his opinion vs Skeletor II's. Instead he set it up so each individual unit had the option of what to do, knowing full well that at every level of command the bad policy would be rejected. Well played indeed!

  3. That, actually, looks kind of neat.

  4. WTF why did they skip past all the porno sounds at the beginning of the song?

  5. True, but that is a slippery slope. Does this mean that each incoming CSAF needs to re-validate every single AFI out there? Is 11-202v3 null and void after a change of command until the incoming CSAF blesses it? I agree that it could have been worded more directly, but I also don't think that you should read THAT deeply into it. EDIT: I would have LOVED for this to be the case, and to have the PT reg slip through the cracks. I really wish Welsh would address the joke that is the AF PT program. Killing the FAC was a good first step, but this idiotic emphasis on PT needs to go away. (yes, I am a fatass).

  6. I agree with your overall point, but I also still agree with Spoo's point about how he "announced" it in the context of "Well, *I* never made such a policy...," implying that any previous CSAF policy not explicitly cited by an incoming CSAF is void.... That was an uncharacteristically wishy-washy move.

  7. No. I would not trust the government with my retirement plan in the first place and this is exactly why. And there it is, right there. Let's not be worried about the long-term. This same thing happened two years ago and here we are again. The government doesn't care about the long term. Ever. They're only concerned with what is happening right now and how that will affect the next election cycle. "Pay it right now and deal with the real problem later" has not, does not, and will not work. Don't start that personalize guilt trip bullshit. If you or anyone else trusts the government with your future or your retirement then I highly suggest you reevaluate. hammer someone in the face? Congress appropriates more money than it takes in and then raises the debt limit to cover it. I'm well aware of the fucked up cycle that causes this year after year after year. Every year they say we MUST HAVE THIS BUDGET PASSED OR THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE AND PEOPLE WILL STARVE and then a year or two later the same people say we MUST RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT TO PAY OUR BILLS OR THE ECONOMY WILL COLLAPSE AND PEOPLE WILL STARVE. The cycle has to be broken somewhere.

  8. Everyone knows how this ends: a $2T debt ceiling increase to carry us through 2014 with future promises of spending cuts and tax increases. Maybe even a new fiscal cliff, because this time we'll really mean it. Why does a system that requires $100B/month in debt above and beyond what we are able to actually pay for not deserve to get kicked straight in the teeth and fail? Default big now rather than default enormous down the line.

  9. Mainly because our Canadian liaison officer, who was a good friend of mine and a shooting buddy, was the one who initially told me about it! Just a sign of superior intellect, nothing to be jealous of!

  10. Debt ceiling debate boiled down to a household analogy (since so many think that the govt works like the average household): Honey, until you stop buying so many shoes, I'm going to stop paying the credit card bills. Would you do this in your household? Is it worth ruining your credit? Do we need to reign in our shoe habit? Absolutely. Is this the way to go about it? Certainly not.

  12. From the article. Perhaps if we had ranges with supplied rifles/ammo on military bases where I could practice at will, I wouldn't want to have a "home version" of an M4 to practice with. 90 rounds once every 3-5 years is insufficient preparation should you ever actually need it downrange. Perhaps everyone won't need it someday, but I for one like to be prepared.

  13. I have had the PT709 Slim and am was very impressed by it. It is was the same size as my XD-S, holds held 7+1 rounds, and has had the "Strike Two" capability (essentially an automatic DA re-strike) in that if for some reason the first pull of the trigger doesn't ignite the round (usually because of a hard primer), all you have to do is pull the trigger again (Taurus claims there is a 93% change the round will fire on the second strike) It also has had a slide lock, which many gun newbies prefer (I don't) and a very short trigger reset which I do like (and wish my XD pistols were the same). Recoil is was very managable and no more snappy than my no longer around PT111 Mil-Pro which is was bigger and heavier. But the two best things about Taurus pistols is that they are inexpensive (the Slim can still be found for around $350), all of mine have been were 100% reliable, and they warranty the gun for life no matter if you're the original owner or the seventh owner. The PT111 I got in a swap had a bent lip on one of the mags, I contacted Taurus CS and was sent a form to return it. About a week later, I got a new mag in the mail which has since been lost to the ages. If I weren't such a big .45ACP fanboy or was on a budget, I would have no problems carrying any of my former Taurus pistols (I also have a PT739 TCP) as a primary self-defense weapon if I still had them. I simply prefered the larger round for increased wounding effectiveness and the recoil characteristic of "pushing" more than "snapping" up until such time as every single gun I owned, plus all the ammo I had stored up, fell overboard in the Gulf of Mexico thanks to a freak seagull attack on our boat! Cheers! M2

  14. In the traditional sense, yes the ORI is supposed to go away. It will be replaced with a CUI or Combined Unit Inspection that will have large portions accomplished online and internally before a team ever arrives, the team is supposed to be smaller and same work that has been "Self Identified and corrected" to ensure compliance. There will still an evaluation of a Wing's ability to generate combat power and how a wing gets out the door, but the ATSO portion becomes unit specific...makes sense for Korea, not so much for Altus. The genesis of the idea was the realization of just how many man hours we were wasting getting ready for not really in our job jar...then we were sending large numbers of inspectors out who wasted many more man hours inspecting those same innocuous things.
