What Are My Chances?

  1. Hey everyone! First off, merry Christmas. 2nd I know I’m a little behind the game applying I just found out you could be a reserve pilot a few months ago, let alone not be a pilot to apply. ANG is the only route for flying within a 3 hour drive for my wife and I. Shoot it straight for me. Scores as follows: Pilot 94 Nav 78 AA 67 Verb 67 Quant 62 PCSM 57 w/5 flight hours. GPA: 2.872 in Poli sci and religious studies (I went full liberal arts in college and first half was rough) I’m a 30 year old firefighter working in a city in New England and have been for the last 5 years. Worked for a large insurance company before that but traded the money to b…

Hello everyone, I am 18 years old and I am currently working on my bachelor's in aviation (79 credits completed). I am on track to graduate in May of 2022, which means I am graduating a year early from college. FWIW, I also graduated a year early from high school. I am primarily interested in F16 units. My AFOQT scores: Pilot: 99 Nav: 92 Acad: 77 Verbal: 66 Quant: 81 College GPA: 4.0 (Again, 79 credits completed), Dean's list and President's Honor Roll every term, no classes switched to pass/fail PCSM/TBAS: Have not taken yet (scheduled 1/6/2021). I understand it is hard to give a good answer without this. EDIT (1/6/2021) - TBAS Completed with a 96 at…

(Posting for S/O) Hello! "I have posted a few months ago about my chances to getting selected for a pilot slot in the rated boards in February. My question now is this: My recruiter called me and told me my commander that I interviewed with put me as top of my class that is going for the same boards. While I am elated, I want to know how much this is going to help my chances to get into the boards? Does this have a lot of pull or is it just a formality? I will attach my last post so you can see my test scores and background." 24 Years old. My degree is a BA in Theology, I have a 3.6 GPA. I have years of experience in managing positions with numerous people u…

Do I have a shot at any non-UAV pilot slot? Heck, I'll go for fighter just like anyone else but I think I wouldn't be completely bummed if I got to fly in anything with wings. Should I just go for reserves so I know where I'm headed exactly, or active-duty for the best chances? Once I take a flight physical and ensure I can qualify, I was considering getting a PPL if that would help. Big investment though so want to be sure I have a chance. Also, wrong section but, I feel like my eyes are on the borderline for acceptable at 2.75 (20/200)... unless there's waivers... is it possible to get Lasik as a civilian now or is it still only available with a USAF surgeon? …

Hi everyone, I was wondering if I can gauge people's thoughts or experiences on flight hours and PPL. I am currently applying to a couple of fighter units but as of application time, I do not yet have my ppl (only about 20hrs). Correspondingly my PCSM score is kind of low at mid 700s however with 201+ hours it would be in the 90s. I aim to complete my PPL by end of March but a lot of units have their application deadline beforehand. Do you think that units would simply look at the initial score and flight hours or if I mention that i'm actively pursuing to complete it the units would take that into consideration? How heavily weighted is flight hours essentially …

  6. Im starting my application process now that Im getting ready to graduate, and want to see what people think of my resume. Im not so specific on airframe and more interested in location, but I want to know how picky I can be. There are places that I would love to fly that also have airframes that I would enjoy, and those are the top of my list. But there are also some places that Im not so sure I would want to be stuck at for a 10 year commitment even if part-time. 7. Stats below, originally joined the Navy with a pilot slot and right before OCS graduation I got the "NAMI Whammi" for self diagnosing migraines. Haven't had one in over 10 years. Had a good shot with Reno ANG but COVID fixed their manning issue cancelling the board to which I was applying. Looking to join a unit preferably on the west coast but will probably need 3 waivers- Age, Commissioned service, migraines. Anyone have an idea if I have a shot (pilot or CSO) or should I just stick with the devil I know? Thanks in advance. Hello everyone, I'm submitting an application for the upcoming AD rated board. I've asked my recruiter what her thoughts are on my standing, but more opinions would be nice. 27 years old, Bachelors of Journalism from University of Oregon - 3.42 GPA PCSM - 85; Pilot - 97; Nav - 97; ABM - 96 (Don't have copy of other scores, I think they're similar) Flight Hours - 12 I don't have much leadership experience on my resume, which I think is my biggest downfall. I've done a lot of volunteering with youth, through after school programs, summer camps, and GED tutoring, but nothing very recent. I've been looking at applying to ANG units as well - I liv…

I am almost 27 and getting closer to waiver range. Do you guys think I should keep rushing ANG units? Or try the active duty route(OTS rated slot)? Just got my PCSM score back & finalized some applications. Figured I'd post here for some feedback. I'm a civilian, no prior military experience. PCSM: 74 with 16 flight hours AFOQT: 98 Pilot, 99 Nav. 95 Verbal, 76 Academic, 49 Quantitative GPA: 3.34 I know I hit it out of the park with the AFOQT Pilot & Nav. I don't have a great feel for PCSM--someone told me that above 70 was great. Thoughts? Thanks!

I’ve been enlisted at my guard unit for 12 years all of it being spent in OPS. Starting at the end of last year it was asked why I hadn’t yet applied for a UPT slot. The simple answer was I had never flown an airplane and having seen some of the apps come through figured I didn’t think I would have much of a chance. As the weeks went on more pilots made reference to me potentially applying and thinking it was a good idea. I guess me being a generally good dude and always trying to help does indeed pay off. All these happenings and other talks now have me about to start my PPL and get that shit knocked out prior to our next board. While I’m not guaranteed a slo…

  15. Hi all, I would like to apply for the various UPT slots this spring. I am 28 years old and civilian, turning 29 in March which is prior to many of the upcoming boards. My only military experience is a semester of AFROTC as a freshman in college 10 years ago. I did sit for the AFOQT during that time though and I was able to find my score. I'm currently working as a structural engineer. I have a master's degree and good GPA's. Hoping to apply for a fighter slot. I'd like to try until I hit 30 and then apply for heavies. I would appreciate any feedback on my info below. Also, I had a question about the AFOQT scores. Will the boards care that I took them in 2009 and didn…

  20. I was hesitant about posting here because due to my particular background and currently still being AD, it won't be too hard for people in my community to figure out who I am. That was dumb. I'm here to try and climb back in the cockpit, so people figuring out who I am doesn't matter one bit. I'm currently working on setting up applications for ANG Fighter Wings / Squadrons, but am not at all opposed to the Reserves or AD AF. I've tasted fighter life and having it snatched away for not being deemed qualified to land on a boat was a devastatingly humbling experience. It truly reoriented my world, however, through this adversity I've become laser focused and more determin…

  22. Started by LongShot,

To make a long story short, I'm partially blind in one eye. I have a blind spot in my central vision that leaves me with normal peripheral vision, but no foveal acuity. It's a stable condition, but can't be fixed. Let's call that eye 20/400 and completely uncorrectable. I'm 20/25 or so in the other eye, easily correctable to 20/20. I'm having a hard time finding this definitively, but from what I can gather, I simply won't be able to fly jets for the military. Am I correct that a waiver or exception for 20/400 is simply not a possibility, despite being correctable to 20/20 in the other eye? For what it's worth, my vision hasn't held me back at all as far as…

  23. Hello All, I know there have been a lot of threads like it, but I think I have a few questions that make this post stand out. First of all, here are some basic facts about me: Gender: Male Age: 24 Degree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering GPA: 3.2 Flight Time: 1 Hour (I plan on getting more) Fitness Level: Active, slim build. It has been my dream since I was younger to be a pilot in the USAF. During my freshman year of college, I was in AFROTC. After freshman year I dropped AFROTC due to it affecting my grades in engineering, and me doubting my chances of getting a pilot slot due to medical conditions. I regret…
