Thanks for anyone's help before I explain below. I am an AS400 In ROTC that got picked up for RPA instead of pilot. I was talking to someone and they told me that their is the possibility of getting picked up for an ANG pilot slot or reserve slot and commissioning into the guard instead of active duty. I've looked into the process for applying to guard units and understand that it requires a lot of work and also a lot of heartbreak but there is still perhaps a chance. I have also heard that getting a cso slot into the guard is a little easier than getting a pilot and might better help chances of getting a pilot slot later on. So essentially I have two questions. 1. …

Hello, I'd like to get some perspective from you guys, I'll list what I got while still trying to maintain my anonymity. My current approach isn't working so I'm turning to the internet for some constructive criticism, i'm sure there's no shortage here. Age: 24 I'm currently enlisted in the guard (E-4) I have my PPL with only about 69 hours GPA 3.3 in History PCSM 75 (would be 87 with 201+ hrs if anybody cares) AFOQT 90/80/40/60/30 (or something like that) I got a couple decent LOR's one from my commander and one from my flight instructor volunteer fire fighter In college I was on a few club teams and I tutored history. I know I need to re-take those…

Good Afternoon, I'm looking to fly for the guard, preferably fighters, but at this point I'll take anything. I'm currently a Space Operations Officer, been in for about a year and a half now. I have a 77 PCSM with a flawless medical and 62 flight hours. Will be getting my PPL when I get to Colorado. I also applied to cross train over to pilot, and will again this year. It just seems impossible right now so I'm not holding my breath...What I'm wondering, cause I really want to fly, will I have to wait to palace chase to join the guard or can they take my active duty commitment? I'm also wondering if anybody has a list of the units that are currently hiring and how I …

Well I'm nearing graduation again and have been curious about flying for the USAF. This time i'm graduating PA school this August with a Master's in Science. Wanna do this new gig part-time but now that im 35 and a half, I'd like to toss my hat in the ring maybe one last time for a buzzer beater. The spark is still there, I feel and look young for my age. Not blind or deaf and no health problems. I can run like a cheetah (especially if I'm chased) and pretty sure I can make whatever fitness standards apply in my old age. Anyway, I sent my packet to a few local ANG units because I read they raised the age for pilot training. If it doesn't work out I may just buy a C150…

Hello all! Stoked to finally be here typing this and possibly start this process. Army Guard RLO looking at going the AFR route through the civil path to wings program. Was in new hire airline training last January when we got sent home from COVID. Volunteered for a CONUS deployment that I am about half way through to weather the storm. I've already been recalled and am now on mil leave, but looking to head back to my regional to knock out the ATP prior to transitioning to the AF. From hearing other's timelines, it sounds like that shouldn't be an issue. Age: 27 Clemson University: Management GPA: 3.33 AFOQT: P99/N90/AA81/V78/Q74 PCSM:…

Hello all! Longtime lurker looking for some initial feedback on my scores and experience. Now that I finally got my PCSM score back, I'll be shot-gunning my application as soon as possible. What are my chances of getting hired on with a fighter unit? I'm not picky about location or platform as long as I get into a fast mover. -PCSM: 99 -AFOQT: 99/75/77/81/66 -Education: Northern Arizona University B.S. in Computer Science -GPA: 3.22 -Total flight hours: 321 -Ratings: Commercial Pilot SEL, Instrument, Complex and High Performance -LORs: Former F-15C pilot and T-38 instructor, Check Airman at Southwest Airlines, and my flight i…

Putting this out there to hear any advice the community may have to make my application more competitive for A-10's and other pointy nose aircraft. Age: 25, will be 26 when boards convene Degree: B.A.S Public Safety GPA 3.2ish Prior Service Air Force :4N051 AFOQT: 97/99/84/94/62 PCSM: 84 (97 at 201 hrs) Flight hours: 50 Student Pilot My LORs aren't from any big wigs so that has me slightly concerned. On a subjective basis I think I'm a good candidate and have some interesting life and leadership experiences thus far that could make me a reliable pilot. I'm a paramedic and have worked all over in various capacities. Also if…

I have been studying for AQOFT but have not taken yet due to family/work. I am doing pretty well on subtests but the math/arithmetic is where I need the most improvement. One of the squadrons I am interested in is hiring for UPT that has an early November deadline for applications. I am not sure if I can get enough practice done in time to take the tests and still submit the application in time. The problem is my age (now 29) and they do not hire above 30. Would I be better off just waiting it out another month or two and likely improving my scores and just let this chance with this squadron go? Another squadron I am interested in will be accepting application a…

Old guy here at 35. Here's my story: 10 years ago I got my PPL (about 47 hours) and applied to a guard unit, was told no, but that I was heavily considered (fighters). Reapplied the next year and they said no again. Looked through other avenues for a couple years but recruiters (Navy and USMC) said I wasn't a strong enough applicant for Aviation. At the time I didn't really have much useful employment experience (was a freelance musician.) I ended up squaring my life away and pulling myself up by my bootstraps by getting into a great civilian career in healthcare IT. I decided I still wanted to serve my country, so I enlisted into the Army National Guard in the Infan…

Hi all, I am slowly working towards, hopefully, securing a pilot slot. I just turned 22 and aim to build up my resume and experiences over the next three years. This is where I stand currently as far as scores, education, and experience: AFOQT: P:99/CSO:91/ABM:97/AA:44/V:37/Q:53 TBAS/PCSM: (Taking it at the end of this month) Education: Double major in Mathematics & Education w/ a 3.52 GPA Leadership: None Flight hours: 0 My goal is to have a PPL by the age of 25 or 26 (financial reasons) and start rushing/applying by this age too. I know the last three scores on my AFOQT are a bit lackluster, should I plan on retaking? What can I s…

So as it stands right now after my first attempt I scored the following on the AFOQT: P:89 N:38 AA:37 V:31 Q:47 I will be taking my TBAS (mid April) when I return home from my current deployment. A little background about myself, I am 2 classes away from finishing my aviation degree and am 23 years old. I have a 3.89 GPA as well as 255 flight hours and my ASEL Commercial Certificate along with an Instrument rating. I have not received a grade throughout college lower than a B. Outside of academics I play hockey at the school, am part of a fraternity, enjoy pretty much anything with friends but along with hockey I am big into fishing and golfi…

Hey everyone, I recently took the TBAS and feel kinda bummed about my PCSM score of 52. My AFOQT scores are 82 (Pilot) / 72 (Nav) / 64 (Acad Apt) / 83 (Verbal) / 45 (Quant) I only have 1 flight hour, and if I were to get my PPL (41+ hours) my PCSM would go to 71. However, I knew after taking the TBAS that I didn't do great. I did well on the directional orientation and multi-tasking, except for the math. I feel that if I practiced with the same incredibly stiff joystick and got faster on simple math problems, I could improve my PCSM score by retaking the TBAS. However, I've been gearing up to apply for the active duty board in June 2016. I can't retake the TBAS befor…

I’ve been enlisted at my guard unit for 12 years all of it being spent in OPS. Starting at the end of last year it was asked why I hadn’t yet applied for a UPT slot. The simple answer was I had never flown an airplane and having seen some of the apps come through figured I didn’t think I would have much of a chance. As the weeks went on more pilots made reference to me potentially applying and thinking it was a good idea. I guess me being a generally good dude and always trying to help does indeed pay off. All these happenings and other talks now have me about to start my PPL and get that shit knocked out prior to our next board. While I’m not guaranteed a slo…

Hello everyone, I'm submitting an application for the upcoming AD rated board. I've asked my recruiter what her thoughts are on my standing, but more opinions would be nice. 27 years old, Bachelors of Journalism from University of Oregon - 3.42 GPA PCSM - 85; Pilot - 97; Nav - 97; ABM - 96 (Don't have copy of other scores, I think they're similar) Flight Hours - 12 I don't have much leadership experience on my resume, which I think is my biggest downfall. I've done a lot of volunteering with youth, through after school programs, summer camps, and GED tutoring, but nothing very recent. I've been looking at applying to ANG units as well - I liv…

I turn 29 in July. Unfortunately I was a bit late in the game deciding I wanted to fly for the Air Force, and by the time I did, it took me ages to actually correspond with an officer recruiter (like almost a year). I finally managed to get in touch with one late last year who told me there was no chance for me because of my age and pulled the plug on submitting me to the April board because apparently I'm officially in waiver territory. I've been told by a lot of people in the Air Force that it can be done, but the recruiter told me they're all wrong. However, turns out I've got until my birthday to make something work out with the Air National Guard. So far I've ap…

Hey everybody, just got my scores in. Thanks in advance for reading, and let me know your thoughts or if there's any additional information I can provide. I'll try my best to keep it brief. I'll preface my AFOQT scores by saying my quantitative is embarrassingly bad, I know. The time limit really threw my off guard and seriously stressed me out. Pilot: 91 Nav: 79 AA: 58 Verbal: 90 Quantitative: 29 PCSM: 95 with 900 hours A bit about me, I'm a current CFI-I, former part 135 airline Captain. I have hours and a lot of experience in a ride array of airframes, including a good amount of turbine time. I'd like to fly heavies around the w…

Hey guys, I'm an army aviation captain (blackhawk pilot) with a couple years left on my contract looking at my options. My wife is Air Force, and we're considering a bridge transfer of myself to Air Force to stay together (she doesn't want to wear green). I want to see if any of the senior guys could help me answer some critical questions. 1. Is it possible to transfer straight into UPT (or would I need to even) from Army Aviation as an O-3? Or have you heard of army officers doing this? 2. If I come into AF/UPT as an O-3 with 3 years, will I be at risk for career progression (i.e. Never make O-5)? 3. Will being a H-60 driver pigeon-hole me into pav hawks…

Hello gentleman, I'm an Officer in the Army National Guard. 5 years ago out of college I applied to a bunch of ANG units and got selected for UPT with one. Everything went smoothly until I had a color vision issue at MEPS (since resolved) which ultimately railroaded me from moving forward with flying in the ANG. I was pretty beat at that point. I was reading the thread in the Aviation Medicine section how the AF has since changed their color vision policy and scoring chart on the CCT exam. I have taken the CCT in the past and have passed it to the now AF standards (I took it under the old standards but not at an AF physical). Ultimately, how feasible is it to d…

Army pilot , previously commissioned but reverted from a 1st Lt. to a W01 in 2013 and now a CW2. Applied to a heavy unit . Found out the deadline was near and had to take the AFOQT ASAP to get scores back in time. Older guy at 31 now. 3900 hrs TT Over 2000 PIC ATP certificate holder , fly part 135 /Single pilot IFR as a captain for an air medical company . 4 year degree 3.2 gpa many moons ago . Good Day to all! First off, I'd like to say this site is awesome. I've seen some great advice given through the topics I've read and continue to read. After reviewing the previous threads on the topic of age waivers I've decided to still post my question. I did find a few answers through the search function but I'd like to get some advice on my specific situation. I'm currently 35 years of age and planning on going back to school to finish my BA in General Studies. I know it's not the coolest degree to get a BA in but it is the quickest I've seen and time is of the essence here. I know some say a degree is a degree and I would have to agree with them on thi…

Baseops community and fellow UPT hopefuls, I was lucky enough to get selected during my first interview and never got around to using the BogiDope Interview Prep Package that I had purchased. Their App review helped me immensely during the process and I'm sure their interview prep is of the same game changing quality. That being said I leaned on this forum a lot over the past year and would like to give back to a fellow applicant. So, the rules are simple, post below that you would like to be entered to win and on Friday night the 22nd of November I'll pull a name from a hat to choose the winner. Here is further information on the package, https://bogido…

Im a prior service Army 68W (Healthcare Specialist/Combat Medic) E4 with an honorable discharge and reentry code 1. I served 4 years and recently separated this August. I do not have any article 15's or any negative UCMJ action. My previous commanding officers, (i.e. Company commander, Physician's Assistant, Scout Recon Platoon leader) have stated that they were more than willing to write LOR's in the future. I am 26 years old and I will be 27 in January. I do not have my Bachelors. I am back in school and I am pursuing my PPL. I currently have 14 flight hours. Obtaining flight hours is not the issue because I own an airplane. I will definitely be pushing the age li…
