Was in new hire airline training last January when we got sent home from COVID. Volunteered for a CONUS deployment that I am about half way through to weather the storm. I've already been recalled and am now on mil leave, but looking to head back to my regional to knock out the ATP prior to transitioning to the AF. Long story short, Current MSgt AGR, Work at a bomb range (non flying wing). Recently completed my Bachelors. 11 years in, DSG from 2010-2016, AGR since. Have been able to be exposed to all types of aviation due to my current job. Have recently (2019) decided that pursuing an aviation career is what I want. I should finish my PPL this spring. I have sacrificed a lot to get it done. I know a lot of the pilots in my state, have a good reputation. 65 Pilot Afoqt, 50 PCSM (41 hrs) 56 when I hit 60-80 Hours. About a year ago I had highly competitive scores and was getting guard/reserve fighter squadron interviews left and right. While I never got picked up, I felt that eventually I would get a slot. ...fast forward to today: I was turned down from even getting an interview at a fighter board where I interviewed a year prior and was in the top third of interviewees, I was turned down from the active duty board, and I am not even getting heavy squadron interviews anymore. I have a hunch that there are a few others in my position as well, so I might as well ask this question as broadly as possible: What can we do to improve our chances? The common feedback that …

I'm currently in the MIANG. Right now, I'm a traditional, fuel systems apprentice. I have always had a love for aviation, and kick myself for not pursuing it. I am about to be 28, the little credits I have towards college would be whatever they count from my active Army time, and Air Force training. Zero hours flying, but know of a school I'd use for my PPL. Do they do waivers for the age to be able to commission and shoot for it? Or is it just a dream/lost cause at this point in time?

I took the AFOQT in October, my pilot subsection was not as good as I had hoped, I am thinking because of my math (I timed out of quite a few questions). I have 45.4 flight hours and a PCSM of 81 and I am awaiting my PPL check ride right now. My AFOQT scores are 98-pilot, 91-Nav, 87-Acad, 87-verbal, and 81-quant. I am a 25 yr old college graduate who used to work as a geologist and now has plans to apply to the WOFT program. So far my packet looks decent: I have a 99 AFQT on ASVAB test. 69 SIFT GPA 3.0 with two undergraduate degrees. The only problem is I have only a former marine pilot and the previous professional engineer I worked under as recommendations. I can get plenty of letters of recommendations in my previous career field, but my recruiter is adamant I need an Army Pilot's rec. Well, I took the new AFOQT today for the first time and I'm not too happy. I didn't really study for it, as this is the middle of my final exam week, but it was harder than I had thought. The only studying I did was 2 nights b4 the test. I looked over the math sections and got comfortable with the instrument comp. I also did a complete run-thru of the exam in the ARCO book and worked a little with the block counting and the tables section. I reviewed the hidden figures and rotated blocks a little, but just kinda figured I'd take my chances since there didnt seem much I could do to improve.
