My dad was a KC-135 nav and I've always dreamed of flying. I've fluctuated in seriousness but now that I'm a year away from graduating,(Dec 2017) I've decided to go all in for it. I've gotten in contact with a recruiter. I want to apply 17 January (I really should have started sooner. More on that later.) Age: 23 Education: Associate's in Automotive Maintenance. Currently pursuing a BS in Computer Science. Cumulative GPA: 3.56, likely to be a 3.60 or higher at the end of this semester, if I don't bomb any finals I'll have all A's this semester. No criminal record. I had some problems in school as a kid, but since high school I've been fine. No fli…

Hello All, I know there have been a lot of threads like it, but I think I have a few questions that make this post stand out. First of all, here are some basic facts about me: Gender: Male Age: 24 Degree: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering GPA: 3.2 Flight Time: 1 Hour (I plan on getting more) Fitness Level: Active, slim build. It has been my dream since I was younger to be a pilot in the USAF. During my freshman year of college, I was in AFROTC. After freshman year I dropped AFROTC due to it affecting my grades in engineering, and me doubting my chances of getting a pilot slot due to medical conditions. I regret…

Hello all, I'm in my last year of college and I'm looking to become a military pilot. Here's some personal information. Age: 22 I currently fly for a regional airline on the CRJ200, I have around 3,000 hours of flight time. Current GPA is 3.69. This semester I should get a 4.0 and I'm estimating I will graduate with a high 3.7. I don't care about base or aircraft assignments, and I'm interested in the guard/reserve. My only medical condition is my vision. It's currently -2.25/-2.50. Otherwise I've held a FAA 1st class medical for years. Just began studying for the AFOQT. Aiming to take it mid December early January. I h…

Hi folks, I know this might seem like a rather bold question, but I have searched quite a bit and haven't found the exact answers I am looking for. I thought this would be the place to ask before I start contacting units. I have seen on unit applications that there is an education exception to policy for applicants who do not have Bachelor's degrees but are "exceptionally qualified." The requirements were based on hours completed and GPA with the caveat of finishing a Bachelors within 4 years of commission. So here is where I am at currently, and why I see this as an opportunity. Personal Details: -2 Associates Applied Science in Aviation Maintenance. 4.0 GPA Board …

I'm a Sophmore in College currently. I'm still debating on whether or not to go the ROTC route or the Guard/Reserve Route. Academics: 3.5 GPA, Business Administration (I struggled a little bit in my math courses, I am hoping to boost my GPA up to 3.67 or 3.7. My Program GPA is 3.7 though). Team Work: I've played Roller Hockey off and on since I was a kid, I started playing Ice Hockey a few years ago. (After I transfer to the state school, I hope to join the Club Teams for both roller and ice). I worked in a Tire Change/Hot Rod/Off Road shop. Also have Lawncare Experience from a previous job and worked at a Flea Market prior to that. Regarding the …

First off, I know there are quite a few threads like this one, so thank you for reading mine and helping me out! Here are a few things about me: -25 year old female -5'6" - fairly athletic -3.89 GPA -Taught health and PE for a couple years, then moved into the training field in the aviation industry -No flight time, but have been studying pilot books, videos and could start PPL training if needed -Highly motivated and dedicated personality - worked full time during college to pay my way through -Haven't taken the AFOQT yet, but have been studying! I have my sights set on being a fighter pilot for a few different reasons, but would just love to f…

Good Afternoon, I'm looking to fly for the guard, preferably fighters, but at this point I'll take anything. I'm currently a Space Operations Officer, been in for about a year and a half now. I have a 77 PCSM with a flawless medical and 62 flight hours. Will be getting my PPL when I get to Colorado. I also applied to cross train over to pilot, and will again this year. It just seems impossible right now so I'm not holding my breath...What I'm wondering, cause I really want to fly, will I have to wait to palace chase to join the guard or can they take my active duty commitment? I'm also wondering if anybody has a list of the units that are currently hiring and how I …

My ultimate goal is to become a mobility pilot with an ANG unit, but am open to the AFRES, and lastly AD. How do they look at your college GPA when it comes to making a selection. Do they simply look at your overall GPA and that's it or do they analyze each individual class when they receive your transcript? Right now my GPA is only 2.87 mostly do to the fact in my Gen Ed classes I have gotten straight B's and two C's (In Music and Public Speaking). Would they see these grades and would it effect them> However, I think I can pull my GPA up when I take only my Business classes (I'm a business Admin major) because in my first two business classes I got pretty high A's. I have only two gen ed classes left. So If I do well in all of my business courses and my GPA is 3.5 or bet…

Hello, I have taken the AFOQT and TBAS. My AFOQT scores were 90/89/87/93/72. My PCSM was 65. I have, 2 flight hours (intro flights - was in a tough spot financially for awhile but wanting to go back and do more). 2 principal questions: 1) is this PCSM crap? I have no idea what the scale is; and 2) while I'm sure it's recommended, would getting more flight hours/ a PPL be dispositive or decisive on an application? I understand that for ANG it is likely to be, but for the active component? Thank you.

Hello all. I just got back my AFOQT results, and I'm pretty proud. Pilot: 99 Nav: 99 AA: 98 Verb: 97 Quant: 96 The catch is my college GPA was 2.6, but it is in engineering and from the #3 program in the nation. I'm also unemployed due to layoffs last year, but I spent 5 years managing up to 50 people at a time. I have my PPL, but I only have about 60 hours. The rest of my packet is 4 Letters of Rec: 1) Former Col. of the Base I'm applying who happened to be my PPL flight examiner 2) My CFI 3) My supervisor from my old job. 4) An Ex-Marine who worked w/ me at my old job as a consultant. I'm taking the TBAS nex…

So far I've interviewed 4 times over the last year and a half and haven't managed to land a slot. My last interview was a couple weeks ago for a Reserve slot. My guess is that I might have a couple more shots at Guard units since they don't have to wait until a Reserve board to know if they can hire me. Have you seen anybody get hired at 29?

Figured I would star this thread to consolidate some of the chatter about the Active Duty UFT board. On the discussion of PPL/PCSM... A bud of mine called AFPC and spoke to a Maj in the Rated Assignments Branch. He said on last year's board, they were cutting off Pilot selects with PCSMs in the 80s. So it sounds like there's enough applicants with PCSMs over 80 each year to pretty much use that as a rough cut line. Is it even worth applying Pilot only with a PCSM in the 60s?

Well guys, I took the AFOQT for the second time and here are the results: Pilot 57, Navigator 49, Acad Aptitude 35, Verbal 64, Quantitative 16. PCSM 58. In other words, they suck. I still can take the TBAS one more time. My worry is going up against guys with scores in the 90s. Depending on how much weight the unit puts into the scores, I doubt I'll even get an interview. What say you guys? Quick recap of life experience: Undergrad in Justice Studies with a 3.8 GPA, Masters in Justice Administration with a 3.9 GPA, Operations Manager for an online Firearms company for the past 6 years, PPL with a bit over 100hrs, fly right seat in company aircraft, volunteer work with the…

Good morning! I've got a 17D (Cyber) AFSC which I was pulled into instead of pilot because "the AF needs cyber, not another pilot." When I applied in 2012, I had all the numbers according to my CC, but any and all electrical engineers were barred from admittance. So I'm trying again, but I'm fairly unsure of my chances given the AF's perceived need for cyber. I'm in the 2013 year group, which is not critically manned for cyber (go figure) and have been told pilot is critically manned. My other stats are as follows: AFOQT: 82 PCSM: 55 Undergrad GPA: 2.9 Awards: 2014 CGO of quarter (SQ, Group, CHQ levels), 2015 CGO of quarter (Sq, Group level), #2/5 Lts (Sq), #2/16 Lts (Gp)…

Hi All, I am submitting my application for the next rated Air Force board. Let me know what you think of my chances of being selected. I got a pilot score 71 on the AFOQT mainly due to my low scores on the math portion of the test. All the actual flying and orientation stuff I knew and it came easily. After taking the TBAS, my PCSM score is only a 65 with 82 hours of flying time. If I get it up to 101 hours my score will come up to a 69. I'm trying to get a reserve slot flying C-17s,130s ect but will take anything provided its not a drone! My instructor is a ex. KC-135 pilot and says I'm an excellent pilot. In college I did ok, I have a degree in Business Management with a 3.1 GPA overall and a 3.9 in my major(math scores killed my overall) So what are my chances of getting a slot? Thanks, David

At a critical age, 25 and want to go balls to the wall but also be strategic as well with getting a slot. I am wondering if I should enlist in a guard unit or try my chances with AFRC which I heard the odds are really good getting a slot. I think OTS is out of the question with these scores. Afoqt scores, taken twice but got the okay for a 3rd attempt after 150days (Form T waiver) Pilot :83 Nav: 36 Acad: 34 Verb:47 Quant :26 B.A. 3.59 GPA PCSM is 75 with 72 flight hours, but will max to 87 at 201 flight hours.

Hello, I'd like to get some perspective from you guys, I'll list what I got while still trying to maintain my anonymity. My current approach isn't working so I'm turning to the internet for some constructive criticism, i'm sure there's no shortage here. Age: 24 I'm currently enlisted in the guard (E-4) I have my PPL with only about 69 hours GPA 3.3 in History PCSM 75 (would be 87 with 201+ hrs if anybody cares) AFOQT 90/80/40/60/30 (or something like that) I got a couple decent LOR's one from my commander and one from my flight instructor volunteer fire fighter In college I was on a few club teams and I tutored history. I know I need to re-take those…

Gents, I've been toying around with the option of not staying in the Marine Corps once my initial commitment has been completed. This is due to a multitude of factors: 1/1 deployment to home ratios, aging airframes and declining flight hours, etc... That being said, each and every time I come back from a DCA, AI, or BFM flight I swear I'd sell my soul to keep doing it. I'm curious about the ANG and Reserve options, and I've done a fair amount of research, but I still feel relatively in the dark when it comes to the Air Force as a whole. Would a first tour, 4-ship Hornet flight lead be competitive in potentially getting selected for an ANG or Reserve Fighter unit?…

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone has seen guys come off AD and get UPT slots. Always thought about flying but wanted to do other things on AD. Don't regret it, but now that I'm ready to come off I want to explore the possibility of going rated. O-3, 4 years in, 3 years ADSC left, so would need to palace chase (I'm 26 now). PPL with about 90hrs, but no time last 5 years. only really interested in working/living in one state (AZ), but willing to fly anything. Also, anyone know how life works when you're a reserve/guard flyer? I understand UPT is full time but after you get to the unit, do things work like they do with other jobs, Appreciate it.
