With the new reg that was published sometime last year, we are now allowed to do 24 AFTPs per quarter and a max of 72 per year. Unfortunately the finance system apparently couldn’t handle that minor change and all additional AFTPs past 16 had to be done by hand through CMS. So I have 8 AFTPs that still haven’t paid out since Aug/September 2019... and another 8 that haven’t been paid since October/November... I run to my finance office yesterday to ask what is going on and I am told that the have stopped processing additional AFTPs until the finance system gets fixed. Does this check with what you guys are hearing at other ANG bases? Sent from my iPhone using B…

Just turned 26 this past January. My AFOQT is scheduled this month, hopefully this time around it doesn’t get canceled. Due to Covid, it’s been taking me months to get it scheduled. Once that’s done my goal is to serve my country ASAP. I have no preference of airframe or location, if I had to choose I would love to fly heavies. I’ve been told I could be considered old by some units and that my time is running out. If that’s the case should I attempt and apply to AD? I’ve heard many say they’ve applied to units for 2-3 years before getting selected or even not. I would hate to apply and interview with a bunch of units only to never get selected for a UPT slot and end up be…

Hi All, I am interested in joining the 327th and have several questions. 1. What is it like to join a reserve unit that doesn’t have their own tails and attached to an active duty unit? 2. What’s their op tempo like? 3. Recommendations on where to live in Little Rock. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've heard that the Reserves(Guard?) are requiring 6 years as an Art after Upt. Is this going to cause people not to apply? Has manning gotten that bad?

Hi everyone, I'm currently an active duty Navy FA-18F pilot, a little more than 2/3 of the way through my first sea tour (first ops tour, in your parlance). Lately, I've started to think about some potential options for further down the road and one thing I'm giving some thought to is a transition to the Guard or Air Force Reserves. I've got a few questions on that process. My first concern has to do with the Air Force flight physical. By Navy standards, I'm color-normal. In other words, I can pass a FALANT test (aka Optec 9000, I think?) no problem. The PIP tests, not so much. I understand that the USAF does not accept or even possess FALANT machines for co…

Hey all, I was picked up by a heavy ANG unit last March with the contingency that I get my PPL by the end of the year. I had knocked out nearly all of my PPL requirements aside from my solo XC and had to abandon flight training and cancel my Checkride in October for COVID related reasons and have had a heck of a time rescheduling ( I live in a very rural area and getting a DPE out here is tough). Anyways, The chief pilot who gave me that offer has since retired. In speaking with the new chief pilot, I was informed that the PPL was no longer required. My question is ‘should I continue pursuing my PPL?’ It’s no longer required and I’ve already blown through $10,0…

I'm an AD enlisted dude applying to various Guard/Reserve units and I understand the importance of face time with the respective squadrons. I've sent out a few applications and have rushed a couple units already and plan on more. I've always worn business casual while dropping-in during UTAs, but never really thought of it as a negative. In my head, ABUs are utility uniforms and don't look too sharp. Blues, on the other hand, seem over-the-top and, frankly, dorky for a drop-in. Still, for formal interviews/boards I would 100% wear service dress. My question is: Do you think wearing a nice business casual outfit, as opposed to a uniform, is hurting my chances?

Note: Tried searching this topic in the forum and found very little on it specifically. Is there a general consensus or standard on how/when to request an accelerated promotion in AFRC? According to Mypers its a letter pushed through VPC to ARPC. Have a date but its > 1 yr out, which puts me at 7 yrs TIG/11 yrs total service for O-4. Seems strange considering PVs are promoting at 5 yrs TIG/9 yrs total basically giving them a 2 year advantage. My CC sounds like he would consider pushing the request to Sr Rater (Wg/CC) but not sure what kind of justification is required to get an O-6 to approve. Right now my unit is grossly undermanned for officers, and the …
