I recently retook the AFOQT, and all my scores that could go up did, namely my Quant. However, for unfortunate algorithm reasons, my TBAS went down. Do you think it is worth retaking the TBAS to try and get an ANG Fighter slot? I have enlisted with an F-16 unit as a maintainer, and am shipping to BMT on 4/22, so this would be while at tech school/early next year. I've included scores and background info below. Thank you. Age: 28 Day Job: Legacy Airline 737 FO 5600 hours Bachelors with a 3.8 GPA Warbird and formation time (working in a FAST Card and T-33 type rating, expected Q2 2026) Current Scores: P:99 CSO:99 ABM:97 ACAD:89 VERB:…

It seems like it’s hard to find good gouge for an AD retirement from AFRC, so this one’s even harder. For someone who gets into AGR territory where they can claim sanctuary and make it to 20+ years AD, what are the options from there? Are they required to take the AD retirement then, or can they defer that and return to service as a TR? More importantly, can they draw an AD retirement after that, or is it take an AD retirement when leaving AGR status or not at all?

As I plan my next move, I came up with a question I am having a hard time getting an answer for. The guard unit I am considering joining is doing all deployments via Mob Letters, thus getting the Mob protection and whatnot. I will be a complete free agent with zero commitment to the unit. I plan on sticking around for a while, but I know eventually I am going to want to give up the job forever. Once you get put on a Mob Letter are you effectively blocked from separating/retiring until after the deployment? I had heard rumors AFRC was trying to make it harder to separate if you were tasked with a deployment but haven’t heard anything about the Guard. Thanks!

Good evening gentlemen, I hope y'all had a good thanksgiving! 🙂 I have a question I was hoping to shoot y'all. I got back from BMT and tech school a month ago and have been loving AFE. ive met a couple of the pilots in the crossing and have started to get my face around and politely let them know that I would love to fly fighters for the squadron. I recently went up to the pilot room and met one of the hiring board pilots and he gave me some great advice of how I can make a good impression. he suggested I come up every drill after work and just talk to them, and if possible stay behind late to help clean up. I thought this was great advice and id love to hear more fr…

I realize that Guard units may have a different answer to this question, but for the AFRC units out there: How many/what percentage of the LtCs are in your unit were promoted PV? Thanks.

I’m curious to know if any Reserve member bound for the T-1A track has ever been able to / or could be able to switch to the T-38C track based on their performance during Phase II. Aside from their commitment to their sponsoring unit, and now that all Reserve members in UPT fall under the blanket of the 340FTG, would such a change ever be considered for a student with exceptional performance in Phase II, especially if it was suggested and recommended by their UPT FLT/CC? Likewise, we have seen some Reserve and Guard members who are fighter bound, but are unable to meet the standards required in Phase II to track to T-38s. Is there any consideration given to exchanging …

Live in SoCal (prefer San Diego), TR/DSG or fresh off AD and ready for a change of pace? Better family/work balance (no deployments)? More flexibility (and less/little AF pay but full USERRA protections/mil leave)? Must be a Major or Lt Col with 3+ish years left. Interested in working with/mentoring motivated youths? Must be self motivated and able to work independently (it’s a beautiful thing once you get it). I attached an old handbook that might answer some questions, but DM or post them if you got them. I am considering joining the Air National Guard as an E3. I read somewhere that "If you have dependents, an apartment or mortgage before enlisting you will receive base housing allowance pay." I have a mortgage with no dependents and I'm single. Is this correct and would this apply for guard units while being months in BMT and tech school? I live in a US territory would that be considered OHA? Found this calculator but not sure if it applies to me. If so, would I be entitled to the max "OHA Rental Allowance"? What about "Utility/Recurring Maintenance Allowance"?

Does anyone know how to get a hold of information or contacts on RPA reserve units holding UPT boards. I have searched all over sent dead end emails, and phone calls trying to find information for Creech AFB reserves. After interviewing 4 times and finally getting selected for a tanker spot, I was recently DQ'ed for a eye issue at my FC1, but was told I still qualified for RPA spots. While the news was a kick in the nuts, I still want to fly for the Guard or Reserve even if its unmanned.

As much as this forum is helpful, this is for all prospective candidates. SHOOT YOUR SHOT. Many people get on here to brag about their 99+ scores and what not. Put your best foot forward and don't let regret look you in the rearview. Most folks can see if mom and dad paid for every thing, Work as hard as the day is long and do the best you can, I think you'd be pleasantly surprised where you end up. I'm a prospective candidate at 29, 10+ years prior enlisted. It took me a little while but here I am. Let me know if you have any questions.

I see in the AFRC UFT Guidebook that they are no longer taking unsponsored applicants. What is the reason for it, is it just temporary? Will the unsponsored route ever come back in the future?

I'm guessing you are limited to 5 yrs Mil Leave in Federal positions. How does it work if you switch agencies- say Guard Tech to other Agency? Does the 5 yrs start over by Agency or is it all under OPM time?

For all of you that fly on IDTs. Please send to your representatives. From the website, 95Letters "Consider two Air Force majors...one is a reservist and each has 18 years of service. I am trying to enter the Air Force National Guard and my recruiter is requesting documents pertaining to my gallbladder surgery that I had done over 10 years ago so that he can send me to MEPS for the physical. I can't really find any documents and have gone to my doctors' offices (surgeon and gastroenterologist) and even the hospital where the surgery was performed, but all of them have destroyed the records because it was so long ago. After my gallbladder, was removed I never had any complications so there was no need to see any doctor since. My recruiter won't send me off to MEPS without any record of it, is there anything I can do?
