Air National Guard / Air Force Reserves

ANG & AFRES discussion area. Bums can search for flying opportunities with other units.

  1. I am heading down to TFOT and TFIT at Maxwell in January and I am a non prior UPT ANG select. My unit will only issue me ABU's and most of the Blue's but not the Blue's Coat, Pants Shoes and some of the other essential accoutrement and non of the Mess Dress that is included on the reporting instructions. Finance just informed me that I don't get the 400$ for officers to buy clothing because I am not an officer... I can probably get that later but still a pain. Also stopping by the BX i am sure that all the stuff I need will cost way more then that. Any body have any recent experience with this stuff? Do I just eat and it and pay for the stuff? On a related not…

  2. Hey Everyone, There's a wealth of information on this forum but unfortunately this question hasn't been specifically addressed: what is the timeline for someone transitioning off of active duty to get hired at a Guard/Reserve unit for UPT? How far out will the hire someone or hold a slot (I realize mileage may vary depending on the unit)? I'll turn 29 in November 2018. My service commitment ends mid-March 2019 (I can take 60 days of terminal leave mid-January if that matters). That means I'll need to go OTS + UPT without age waivers all in about 8 months ... pretty tight timeline. I've read about the ANG being more flexible with age and stories about Army rotary-wing guys…

  3. Need FINANCE HELP. I have a very specific situation that I'd love to get some input about. I took the VSP from Active Duty 1 year ago and am starting to look at Guard / Reserve positions (currently in IRR). During this 1 year, I have been approved for 60% VA disability, but instead of getting those paychecks, it has been required to be used for VSP payback....ie I won't see that money until ~2019. My questions are: 1. Can I still join Guard / Reserve with VA Disability? No permanent or duty restriction injuries..will pass all PFTs and physicals. I have heard every answer under the sun on this and would love some facts vs. opinions. One Guard unit told me anything …

Separate from guardreservejobs.com, what are good ways to reach out to the Guard/Reserve community? I'm doing some consulting work for a northeast Cirrus air taxi operator. We've found that hiring guard bums and reservists fits our model very well. Anyone have any insight on how to target guard and reserve pilots?

  10. So I am trying to get my package done for the NOV UFT board, which is due 2 Nov. I am currently a reservist and all I need to finish the submission is a commissioning physical. This physical is sufficient to apply to the board, as long as a wright patt fc-1 is scheduled (doesnt have to be complete) I completed my PEPP and the reserve medical squadron told me it will be 45-60 days to get it processed..so I went to the active duty hospital and managed to get a commissioning physical scheduled next week. My question would be will this physical be sufficient for the board? The hospital where I went is where the recruiter sends civilian applicants (if not meps).. The reason…

  12. Hey guys, I've been working with my local AFRC officer ascession recruiter for the past year. At first she ignored my voicemails and e-mails for a few months before I finally just showed up at her office unannounced. She admitted she was impressed with my determination and immediately warmed up to me over the next couple weeks to get paperwork going, scheduling MEPS, and calling around units who may need pilots. I told her I was interviewing at a unit in the near future and she wished me good luck and last time we spoke we were on good terms. I ended up getting selected by the unit and they are going to sponsor me for the November AFRC board! Good news right? Well, since …

  14. Started by Chida,

I know we have to get a dental exam every year, and since I get my teeth cleaned twice a year with my civilian dentist, I have him fill out the exam form and I turn that in. When I first got into the ARC I thought I heard some doctor type tell us that we had to get examined by an *Air Force* dentist every 3 years. I might have heard wrong or he might have been wrong. Has anyone heard of or experienced this?

  15. If this is in the wrong forum feel free to move it. I just wanted to get some opinions. I am prior service ANG and have been invited to 4 interviews this year at cargo units and one with the 106th Rescue Wing, but haven't received any invites for FW's yet. I have the option to switch to a local Army National Guard unit and fly the LUH-72 Lakota's or HH-60's. I just turned 28 and I am trying to weigh the pro's and con's of switching services. Anyone familiar with the process or have any input? Anyone know of any units (other than the 104fw and those on the Guardreservejobs website) still accepting packets?

  16. The Savannah Air Dominance Center is looking for 2002-2004 current and qualified 11F's for a minimum 4 year AGR tour. This position is an APIA-6 position, meaning the individual will still have to fly as an attached pilot with their old unit or find a local unit near Savannah to gain you as an attached pilot. Units around Sav include the SCANG, FANG, Montgomery, DC, VANG, Burlington. The ADC has a travel budget and will pay TDY costs associated with maintaining RAP. Please PM me if you are interested Hawk PM/DO SAV Air Dominance Center check us out on FB at The Air Dominance Center

  17. So I found out that either 0 or 30% disability will get you your VA funding fee waived. My first goal is to expedite my VA claim because I close in approx ~60 days. Does anyone know if this is possible? Like how fast a fully developed claim takes? What is my fastest option to get even a 0% disability rating? Second concern, is that disability rating disclosed to anyone? I am currently in the guard, does that have to be disclosed to the flt doc? Does a 10% disability rating for say slight hearing loss, or the knee pain i sustained from an injury a couple years ago prevent me from now flying or if I decide to switch units, will that unit scrutinize such a rating e…

I'm interested to hear thoughts on what might be the most effective way to demonstrate that my current character isn't indicative of my past mistakes. I intend to fully disclose my past legal troubles (2 separate underage drinking incidents when 18 and 20) on the AF Form 24 and to any who ask. I promptly did as I was instructed by the court without any issues (Community service and alcohol/abuse class) and put those incidents behind as lessons learned. I'm just hoping to get a chance to explain myself to the boards before I'm dismissed as an applicant because of those blemishes. I've graduated from a large university with a 3.5 GPA, hold a PPL, have volunteer experie…

Hey all. I previously had a thread on here about how to get hired non prior to UPT with a unit. From that information, I wonder how that applies specifically to fighter units. Is it enough to have a good GPA, good AFOQT/TBAS scores, all the pre reqs along with a PPL to realistically obtain a job with a unit? I saw units like the 115th of the California ANG are interviewing and hiring for pilots, but I wonder how important it is to be in the unit already? Just trying to gauge the right path to go to pursue this. I will be graduating next May 2016, so the sooner I know the better! Thanks

  20. Hi, I admit this is kind of a "what are my chances" question, but not really. Please read my entire question before removing it. I am graduating high school this year. I've thoroughly exhausted all of the forums on this website and I am an expert on the ANG pilot selection process works and how to get there. First of all, I have recently taken the ASVAB and I have found out I have very high scores, enough to get the job I want when I enlist in the ANG-Aircrew Flight Equipment(life support specialist). I want this job so that I can have tons of face time with the pilots so they can know me. I thought this job would be best. I know everything else about how to become a pilo…

  22. I am currently attending grad school while I wait to go back to UPT. I did some searching but could not find much. At what rank does a Guard guy need a Masters degree? I heard it is not needed to get Major like AD, but I was trying to figure out if there was a rank that the Guard typically wants one.

  23. Started by Chicken,

I am starting my search for ANG/Reserve jobs. I have 14 years AD and would like to find a full time job to finish out my 20 years and beyond if the unit lets me go past 20. Many of my buddies have fallen into AGR slots but it seems like I can't find anything. There are prospects here and there but most seems like timing...units standing up.. basically being in the right place at the right time. I have RPA experience.. 12S core right now.. have AC/MC/slick experience and what I think is a good resume but nothing seems to be out there. At this point I would accept a non-flying. There are no centralized websites for job searches.. one website has different jobs than an…

Does anyone know the how the full Palace Front process works? I got hired by a guard unit and spoke to the inservice guard recruiter that services my base. I filled out an AF 1288 and a Palace Front Questioner and returned it to them. The unit that hired me asked me for medical, dental, surf, shot records, etc... and they medically approved me and returned the back of the AF 1288 to my local inservice recruiter, who then turned the paperwork to the AFPC Palace Front office. The recruiter swears up and down that I don't need to do a thing on the VMPF with regards to separation, and told me that AFPC will contact separations at my current base once the AF 1288 is…
