Hi folks, This is a repost from the ROTC lounge room. I'm currently starting my final year of college also seriously considering retaking my AFOQT to try and improve my PCSM. AS of the moment, I am planning on commissioning FY18, but that may all change. Hear me out. I'm not really one to be tact so I'll just say this the best that I know how. At the moment, I have an RPA slot and as glamorous as the future of this career looks, it's not something I think I want for myself. That whole idea of flying in a box, disconnected from everything that has defined flying for the past century is something I am still not sure about. As of right now, my PCSM i…

Good morning to all, In late September, I went up for the Rated Supplemental Board and unfortunately, was not selected. I found this out in late September. The thing is, I retook my AFOQT awfully close to the Supp. Board date. Although most might dismiss the possibility of my scores still making the board, it should be noted that my scores actually came out in 6 days, as such, that possibility should be increased to some respect. My PCSM went from a 59 to a 76. Here's the timeline to help with my story. Timeline: 16 Feb - Received RPA (PCSM was 57 when sent to board) 9 Aug - TBAS retake (PCSM improves from 57-59) 13 Sep - AFOQT retake …

Starting a thread for 2017 Active Duty board. There is an annoucement out on myPers and packages are due in November. One change from last year is that if you are medically eligible, you must select and rank all of the rated positions (Pilot, Nav, RPA, ABM). So basically if all you want is pilot and you are offered something else and decline, then you will no longer be eligible to apply to future boards. There is also a website on the AF Portal with some raw data on the selectees from the previous 3 years. Interesting to note that of the 14 who were selected last year, all 14 had PPLs. Food for thought.

I am interested in knowing how long it took for you to earn your CFI. I am interested in how long (weeks, months) and how much ground and flight training. I am interested in those who did it on their own at a local flight school. Any of this information would be helpful. Thanks for any responses.

  7. I am not sure if this has been posted here before. Searching through the forums, there have been only a few, scattered references in revived threads. I have not seen the memo attached. I found this memo from HQ A3 granting a blanket age waiver for RPA pilot applicants. This particular one is for active duty but I have called around to ANG and Reserve units to see if they are following suit. I have a memo from the NG Bureau stating that they will. Up until recently, individual ANG units were making their own call on it. Units that were doing well in manning and applicants told me they were not. Others that had less personnel were following the AD policy.…

I'm sure it's been spread around this site already but, The 114th Fighter Wing is accepting UPT applications for our board in May. The application deadline however is 31 March so if you have apps ready or almost ready please see details at the following website. https://www.114fw.ang.af.mil/about-us/careers/ Good Luck

  9. Background: USMC AH-1W driver looking to go ANG FW fighters. I know the FWQ course that was previously designed for Army RW guys without joint-FW primary experiences (t-6/34c) has gone away. Looking to see in more recent years (FWQ seemed to die around 2013) if anyone on here put in for a rated-slot, went to the ARB, and were given a specific pathway. Thanks.

Hey everyone, My girlfriend and I were in a little car accident and I've been helping pay for her medical bills and it's really been adding up quite a bit. I'm in a battle with insurance right now to get reimbursed, but between that and getting my PPL, I've racked up quite a bit of credit debt. My debt to income with O1 pay will still be less than 40% and I will be able to pay off a lot of it in due time. I still have good credit and no late payments. Will I get a chance to explain this to the background investigator? I'm worried that I'll be denied security clearance because of the debt but really it's just bad timing.

Hello everyone, There were some complications with my application package and my recruiter had to resubmit it. He told me that they received the application on February 17th, the last day that they convened. How likely is it that they still looked at my application? From what I understand, the convening dates just mean that it when we are scored before the decisions are made by someone else. Is this accurate? Is there any chance of them convening after the 17th? Unfortunately, I don't know the time that they received the application. Now, instead of waiting for a "yes" or a "no," I am waiting for an "if" they even got my application. Does anyone have any insight on …

  13. (Posting for S/O) "My recruiter told me the Selection Committee for OTS boards meets up in February, and told me they will call somewhere in March. I was just wondering if anyone that has been selected in the February boards knew about how long it took for them to be notified? Like when exactly they meet and when they decide and notify. Obviously this is a very nerve-wracking month for me and I need a time line lol"

  14. Is it common place to be asked to write the first draft of your own letter of recommendation? I have asked a former F-16 pilot, a former airline pilot, and a current experimental pilot/aviation lab director (all of whom I have worked closely with) to write me letters of recommendation, and they all agreed! That is great. However, two of them said they would like me to write the first draft, and send it to them. They will then make any changes they would like, and approve/sign it. This is a tricky situation, since now I have to write two completely separate letters of recommendation for myself, and make sure neither of them sound similar. I just wanted to …

  17. Started by reticulous,

Got this question in my email and couldn't answer it: Does anyone know what group the AFOQT scores are "percentiled" against? Is it that current crop of test takers (ex: all test takers in Fall 2016)? All takers who have ever taken that same test form? Some other subset? I know the old Form S scores were re-centered on fall 2014 scores. I am wondering about the scores for new test takers. Thanks.

  18. Hey everyone, I've been considering applying to OTS for a while now. I've been studying various AFOQT books, reading about things online, talking to pilots, etc. I contacted a recruiter, and he sent me some generic OTS documents. What really struck me was this: I haven't moved forward with the process, mainly because I don't have a Private Pilot's License. I only have an hour of flight time. I'd like to get my PPL before applying, but is it really necessary? I'm sure it would improve my chances, but I'm wondering how true the "1% chance" thing is. I realize this has been discussed somewhat in other topics, but I haven't seen anyone directly address how OTS is currently d…

I know a bit about how the two differ, but what about getting in? I know that the ANG in particular seems to like to hire from within, but how does one get hired into the guard as a pilot off the street? I have about four units (mostly KC135) in the west and northwestern U.S. that I'd like to shoot for but I see a bit of a roadblock in trying to get in to the guard when you're not from the unit. I guess the answer is "be a good dude" and do the best you can, but can it realistically be done if you're not from that unit?

I am an AFROTC cadet graduating in May with a pilot slot, I was curious if anyone had info on how EAD and pilot training dates work? Can you request dates to go to pilot training/EAD? Can you trade dates with other pilot slot selections? I am asking because I would like to use up my full year before I EAD so I can get my masters. Thanks in advance for your response!

How difficult is it or how lucky does someone have to be to land a HH60 slot? If you are doing well at UPT and leadership knows thats the airframe you want is that something they can work on? Or is it basically just perfect timing on a drop?

  22. Hey all, I was told by my recruiter a little over a month ago that OTS 16OT04 Rated Board is scheduled to begin meeting today, 7/25/16. I just wanted to know of anyone can confirm this. Additionally, I was reading how the results for the AD Board usually takes between 3 and 4 weeks for results to be announced.... is this the same for OTS? I'm sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, I'm just an anxious applicant seeking to cope. -Pilot Applicant

  23. So I got the word today that I was selected by the AFRC board and got a follow up e-mail to set up an appointment to enlist. How does that affect my civilian life before going to OTS? I understand it will take a little bit of time to get training dates and security clearance and all that. Do I keep working at my civilian job in the meantime? Also, do you get paid while being enlisted or is that just a formality? Anything else I should keep in mind?

Hi all, first off I cant say thank you enough to all those that have posted in the past and helped me grasp what the process of off the street ANG pilot selection is like. I can now say first hand that with motivation and perseverance anything is possible. I have been in this process for a tad under 2 years and was just selected to fly the f-16. I took 3 interviews, 2 afoqts (both were not out of this world by anymeans)2 tbas tests and a few weekend trips to SQ, but it finally paid off. The 3 top points I can share are 1- Rush Units, Show up get to know the pilots, but more importantly let them get to know you. 2-Dont let anyone tell you NO! but unders…

I hold a PPL and as such was required to get a third class medical. However, as someone interested in pursuing a career in military aviation I understand I'm going to have to pass more rigorous physical test and screenings. Would getting a first class medical prior to any board dates/interviews be worthwhile? I suppose it would at least show I can past the more strenuous civilian tests.
