Hey guys, I've been reading here a while and I'm looking for a little help... I'm currently waiting to start pilot training at Vance and before I got down here my aunt gave me some of my grandfathers old Army Air Corps things. Neither she nor my dad really know much about what he did but from what they do remember I know that he was flying transport over the Burma hump. My aunt thinks that he did some of his pilot training here but some of the pictures that she gave me also show him in Muskogee. I also have his ribbon rack and he has the Distinguished Flying Cross with a bronze oak leaf cluster. Basically, I'm wondering if there is anyway to find out exactly …

alright i have limited experience here. but why is it that anyone "in the know" or anyone that has the power to change things (read: most 0-6s and up) will never give you a straight answer. theres always just the song and dance with the eventual ending of stating the company line. why is that there is now no one in leadership (big leadership) that still has the balls to question big blue. hell the af came from a guy who questioned all the way down to his career grave. i just want for once someone to admit that the air force has an identity crisis of cold war guys leading us who dont know how they af currently fits in. that the way we are producing officers is borderli…

My unit has been involved with a few deployments to USAFE in support of various Operation Joint etc's. I have to submit my crew for a Joint Service Medal. Does anyone experience doing this? I've reviewed the DOD reg and the AFI. It doesn't look very easy to start and submit on my end. Has anyone done this and made significant progress?

From CNN.com BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -- A large cargo plane crashed at the end of a runway and split in two while trying to take off Sunday at Brussels airport, authorities said. Four of the five crew members on board the Boeing 747 were slightly injured and were hospitalized, said Jan Van der Cruysse, spokesman at Brussels Airport. "The plane is very seriously damaged," he said. The aircraft cracked in two after it crashed at the end of runway 220, which lies very close to a rail line and houses. Rail services to and from the airport were suspended as a safety precaution, however the crash did not affect other flights at the airport, Van der Cruysse said. F…

Anyone know exactly the weight of a SOS training report and its weight on an O4 board? I know if you get top 1/3 or DG it reflects that, but are the rest of them canned or what? I have consistant strats throughout most of my OPRs as well as the other required crap, so I would assume combat time, deployments, strats, awards, decs etc would hold more weight than the SOS training report?

I did a Google search this morning and this came up. A guy posting on a Warcraft board telling people to ask him any questions they want to know because he is "a F-22 Raptor pilot." I didn't read the whole thing (I'm at work right now), but in one part it says he's at Elmendorf. Here's the link: WoW Page - link updated Go sick 'em boys.

So while I was reading about the FACT a couple days ago I came across this workout that this fighter pilot came up with that he uses to stay in shape. It was a pretty intense workout to say the least. So I began to wonder, when it comes to fighters or dealing with high g-forces period, who seems to do the best? The guys with pure muscle or your skinny sticks that can run for miles? Seems that the guys with more muscle would do a lot better because they have the muscle to force blood back into the brain. Lookin' at some old WWII pics, I noticed that most of the best sticks were shorter, built guys. Maybe it has something to do with that there is less distance th…

1. Since when was it called Joint Base Balad? Does this mean the AF runs it or the Army? Guessing AF, since it would probably be called JLSA Anaconda if the Army was in charge... 2. How the fvck did they get 5 53s in the air at the same time? Those must be the last 5 waiting to go to DM...

Hey guys -- I'm pretty clueless about a lot of the GPS units available to pilots, let alone what kind of features would be specifically helpful for a military pilot. Anyone have any input? Specific things I'm looking for include: -Large, easily-readable, color screen -Battery life good enough for 4-5 hours of continuous use -Expandability -NAVAID database to include all US TACAN/VORTAC/VOR stations and airports -Ease of use in the backseat of the T-38 Any helpful input is a huge help. Thanks in advance, and Happy New Year.

I was watching the movie "The right stuff" in the breakroom. Never realized it was from 1983. trailer: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086197/traile...lay-vi770900249 I want to rent and watch the whole thing. Idk. seemed like a really good movie from the parts I seen.. figured there were others who live under a rock like me and never seen it. Anyway.. How many people on this board, whether pilot, civilian, or just an officer of some sort, are interested in one day trying for NASA(astronaut)... Or pilots... How many are looking to apply for a test pilot slot? What is it that you guys do to stay competitive? Just wondering...

Small jet with two aboard crashes at Lubbock airport Lubbock Avalanche-Journal Thursday, May 22, 2008 Story last updated at 5/22/2008 - 2:10 am A U.S. Air Force plane crashed just north of the Lubbock airport Wednesday night. The small twin-engine jet appeared to be on final approach to Lubbock Preston Smith International Airport when it crashed just outside the airport fence at 9:49 p.m., said James Loomis, the airport's director. Two people were on board. No critical injuries were reported. Loomis couldn't say Wednesday night if weather caused the plane to crash. "The Air Force will conduct its investigation," he said, adding the crash would not affec…

My dollar ride is on Wednesday (17 Dec), and I'm looking for cool things to do with my dollar. Any ideas or suggestions? Does it HAVE to incorporate naked women? I'm looking for my dollar to be pretty 'special' to get a laugh or two and to have some fun. Post what YOUR dollar had on it...this should get interesting... I'll award points for creativity. Thanks in advance!

Anybody catch that show on the History Channel the other night? Pretty interesting stuff. Most of it speculation I'm sure, but cool nonetheless. Is the B-1R something that is actually being considered? Cool concept, liked the V-tail it had. I had heard they were possibly going to re-engine the BONEer with Raptor engines, but I didn't know they were going to make it an AMRAM truck. Screw the BONE, lets put a bunch of 120s on the BUFF!
