Are there any models of C-17's that have the stick located on the side instead of the center? I have heard that they are mounted on the side from several people but all of the photos that I can find show that it is in the center.

well this is one way to get out early I guess... https://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16585140/ SAN ANTONIO - "Drop and give me 20!" is something you might hear Air Force Staff Sgt. Michelle Manhart yell to airmen trainees at Lackland Air Force Base. Drop her trousers is what Manhart did for Playboy magazine, and now it's landed her in trouble with the military. "Of what I did, nothing is wrong so I didn't anticipate anything, of course," Manhart said Thursday of the pictorial. "I didn't do anything wrong so I didn't think it would be a major issue." In a six-page spread in February's issue, hitting newsstands this week, Manhart is photographed in uniform yelling and …

I've been thinking about putting a flag pole in my front lawn, and with the passing of President Ford, I've noticed that during my drive to work, some of the local stores still have the flag at half staff, and some are full staff, which got me wondering about the actual rules about flying the flag at half staff. I include the attached link for everyone's flag education. Cap-10

Got a question...so right now I have a nice POS daily driver. It still has alot of life in it so I don't want to get rid of it. That being said I also will want to buy a new car (looking at the 09 Camaro) when it comes out. I don't wanna turn this into a save your money type of thread, just curious if its possible to own 2 vehicles... Or say someone has a car they are working on...like an old 60's car...and then they have truck they tow it around with. Is that allowed? Or are you 100% limited to one vehicle on base? TIA

I believe the appropriate radio call would be: "Tower, Key Lime Air, ....whoops" DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A Frontier Airlines jet attempting to land Friday at Denver International Airport came within 50 feet of a smaller charter plane that had inadvertently entered the runway, federal aviation officials said. The Frontier crew spotted the Key Lime Air plane in time, aborted the landing and continued flying until it could land the jetliner a short time later, authorities said. No injuries were reported. Frontier and Key Lime officials declined to comment. Neither the airlines nor the investigators would say how many passengers were on the two planes. The Nation…

Please forgive this IFR civvy flyer's ignorance, but given that military aircraft must be able to operate no matter how bad the weather, how come Ramstein has become the first DoD airbase to install a CAT III ILS? (Ramstein's ILS) Does the use of a PAR service at military airfields make ILS, whether CAT I, II or III, redundant? [ 04. January 2007, 22:38: Message edited by: Toro ]

I've gotten a few letters from a flying club in the local area. I'm wondering if this seems like a good deal to you. A C-172 rents for $80/hour (roughly) in this area so in my mind I'd only have to fly 1 hour a month to break even. $1000 up-front to buy a 1/36th share in the club (which can be resold later) $40/month dues C-150 - $39/hour wet C-172 - $52/hour wet Citabria - $49/hour wet

ERAU had a pretty rough Christmas. This afternoon, a tornado ripped through their flightline and destroyed most of their airplanes. Here are the gory pictures: My sources say they lost 50 of the 65 aircraft, and their Mx hanger got hit pretty hard, too. [ 26. December 2006, 06:04: Message edited by: Toro ]

Yes, I've used the search function, and I even read all about the rules and regulations and understand the basics. What I want to know is, has anyone here used it while deployed? It seems like a good deal at first glance, but all of the stipulations they add to it sound like a pain in the ass. How easy is it to get signed up? Have you had any hassles or pay issues, either starting or at the end of participation? And it mentions that you can take out sums greater than 10k (if your account has gotten that big) in installments. But can you also elect to withdraw it in a lump sum regardless? I'm trying to decide if I should use this while deployed or invest the…

...Saparmurat Niyazov, the President-for-life of Turkmenistan, has died. Wonder if we'll still be able to stop in Ashgabat for overpriced gas, once the succession settles...looks like he left the lines of succession as clean-cut as Saddam did. https://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/6198983.stm Turkmenistan's 'iron ruler' dies State TV said Nizayov's death was a "great loss" to the Turkmens Turkmenistan's authoritarian president Saparmurat Niyazov, who ruled the Central Asian country for 21 years, has died aged 66, state TV has reported. Mr Niyazov, who named cities and airports after himself in a personality cult, left no designated successor. Turkme…

WASHINGTON - President Bush will hold a news conference at 10 a.m. EST. The White House said Bush would open with a 10-minute statement discussing his decision to expand the overall size of the U.S. military to meet the challenges of a long, global struggle against terrorism. Bush also planned to stress the importance of working in a bipartisan way next year when Democrats take control of Congress heading into the final two years of his administration. The White House also said Bush would talk about the need to keep the U.S. economy strong. Bush said Tuesday for the first time that American forces were not winning in Iraq. He also said the military would be exp…

If you weren't a pilot, what would you do for a career? Just a fun thread, I guess. Curious to see what everyone says... If I didn't want to be a pilot, I'd defintely want to become an engineer; and if that didn't happen, I'd want to do special forces, or something of that sort. Next...

Hopefully, if you are searching for an answer to a question that you have you will find this thread. On the top of this webpage, which allows access to ALMOST every reg civilians should be allowed to view, you'll see a "Long Title" search. You can search the title of all the air Force regulations for what you're looking for. www.e-publishing.af.mil/ Good Luck! BENDY

The Barksdale BX just started selling firearms. I was just curious if any other BX's have started doing this as well? The prices seem fairly reasonable and the tax free is the best part! They've got everything from Glock and HK to Remington.

I already searched but couldn't find anything helpful. I'm PCS'ing to Edwards this winter and am trying to find some info about the area. I've already read the AF Crossroads info but it wasn't much help. From what I've heard, it's best to stay on base to avoid the crime and long commute of the local "communities" like Boron and California City. Any truth to this? Any other advice for adjusting to living in the Mojave desert? Subscribe to Netflix if I already haven't? Thanks. - BK

Why in the hell is a picture of Maj Gilbert’s mother in a moment of extreme grief, on the Air Force website? https://www.af.mil/news/story_media.asp?storyID=123035120 What are we trying to prove. Please tell me this is not some ploy to show the Air Force is taking losses too. These PA tools need a swift kick in the junk. Let me state for the record, if I ever buy the farm and AF.mil decides to place a picture of my parents grieving on the website, I am asking each and everyone of you to drive to the Pentagon and knock some common sense into someone. I’ve had far too many friends die trying to protect our way of life to have their sacrifice turned into a …

It turns out that our PA shop can forward voicemails to their email. The following phone call is an actual complaint received - you could't write something this good if you tried. I KNOW I am going to regret posting this. Enjoy! Best phone complaint ever
