After UPT, what stuff do you keep and what stuff do you have to return? If going on to a fighter, do you keep the helmet/mask?

Am looking for some unfiltered info on life at on AD from the four-fans-of-freedom guys. This is coming from someone that might be "returning to the fold" so to speak. I've been an ARC member for a lot longer than I was ever on AD and have only recently seen AD up close in the AOR. Specifically, are they giving assigments to Elmendorf? How's life at Ramstein with the E models having problems? How is living at the Rock for family types? Am afraid to ask about Dyess and Pope, having spent some time at both places and knowing just enough to be dangerous. Just a snap of what life would be like as a regular old Herk guy, albeit a bit more senior than most FNGs to the sq…

I think that I remember hearing that the speed for the overhead break is around 350 knots, but do fighter guys ever go above this speed "for fun?" On airwarriors, they talk about how they usually do a minimum of 500 knots, but maybe that's because they're at the boat. Just curious...

Okay. I've hit this problem from just about every angle I can think of but have yet to come up with a solution. I leave for Randolph (UNT) very soon. Because of my son's heart condition, he needs to stay near his surgeons back home. On top of that, my wife has a great job and my daughter is in a school program that you have to be accepted to and will have to re-apply if she leaves (lottery). Needless to say, they have to stay home. Here's the dilemma: Base pay - taxes + BAH (waived for dependent location) + BAS = Civilian Pay (almost to the penny). Since I have to accept BAH to maintain my household back home, I cannot live on base. To live off base will …

I met someone on the net and during a conversation about his eyesight problems, he told me this: This is supposedly back in 1996. Any truth to this?

Missouri Guard unit first ever selected for B-2 mission I'd trade an Eagle for a B-2 any day of he week, and twice on Sunday, especially if it keeps me out of an RQ-1 control van. Good to see a Guard unit not getting totally screwed. [ 17. March 2006, 14:44: Message edited by: Scooter14 ]

I've heard of some pretty sweet living arrangements that people have had while on Active Duty (i.e. on a beach, next to a castle, etc...). Wondering if anyone on baseops has ever lived in any unique/  very cool places while in the military- Thanks, Jp-

I need advice from some AD guys on where to get these items for the FTX I'm heading up next year. Keep in mind its an ROTC event (yipee) and we are limited in just about every resource you can think of. 1. MRE's -- I checked out the local Army/ Navy store and basically all they have is the cheap version in the clear packaging. I'm looking for the government issue with heater. Anywhere on base sell wholesale? BX maybe? 2. Shelter -- I'm open to any input here. A larege tent is going to be out of the question, we just dont have the ability to move it. Basically Im looking at buying a crap load of coleman tents but that can get expensive (and would produce an o…

There is a debate around my parts on what the rules are on dropping a coin on others. My questions... 1) Are there actual rules or is it unit specific rules? 2) Are you allowed to call it a coin or do you have to call it a RMO? 3) If you do drop your coin on someone, does that person have to be from your unit (sts), sq, flt, ect.. or can it be any military member? 4) How long do you have to produce a coin before time expires? Or do you HAVE to have it on your person? 5) If someone doesnt buck up and buy the beer, are there standard punishments to enforce, or do you just get creative? 6) Do AD people actually play this game? Im tired of everyone F-ing this up an…

I do not have the time right now to look this up so someone please help. Is the All American LZ in LR considered a "dirt strip" for dirt qualification purposes? It says it is "cemented soil" Thanks [ 15. May 2006, 04:12: Message edited by: RedDog ]

Has anyone heard of or participated in the Recruiters Assistance Program (RAP). from what I understand it is a program that a Lt. on their way to say SERE for example may have some time off and can then request to go to a colege where there is an ROTC detachment and participate as a recruiter. It is done to get free leave essentially. Any information? [ 28. August 2006, 04:29: Message edited by: Toro ]

Can anyone tell me what type of lifestyle a pilot flying an AWACS, JSTARS, or RJ usually lives? I have a rough idea of the missions of these jets, but not the crew lifestyle. Long deployments, amount of flight time compared to the KC's or C-type jets? I searched, but didn't find much to answer my question. [ 31. August 2006, 17:23: Message edited by: robot_chicken ]

Hey what do you guys think about a FAA sport pilot rating? Is it a gay rating that you would be extremely limited in use? I've got about 35 hours in a C-152 as I was working towards my private, and don't know if I would be able to get a private rating due to some circumstances. However, the transition to sport pilot seems very easily doable. Does anyone here have a sport rating and use it or is it pointless and a private rating is the only thing to be concerned with? I know that this is not mil related but some love on this would be appreciated.

I recently passed through Diego, and ended up staying there a couple days. Voucher finally paid, and for each succeeding day after the first, only $3.50 was paid for per diem, instead of the usual $27.50. My only beef with this is that we were not a part of the deployed AEG at all, but rather a transient crew...in fact, Camp Justice (or whatever they were calling it) is completely shut down now, the tents torn down, and no free chow hall like you get at all the other $3.50 locations. Now Diego isn't exactly expensive, but...I was certainly paying more than $3.50 on sundries, incidentals and meals on a daily basis. So, anyway, if you're paying for meals shouldn't the…

In several threads I've noticed pilots mentioning a "fear of flying" and "controlling the fear". Could you guys elaborate on what you mean by that? Is it fear of the ability to control the jet at it's limits, fear of the enemy, both? Just curious, thanks.

Hey guys, I've been diagnosed with a pretty f$%ked up back and there is a good chance I will be permanently DNIF'd for it. Although I would love to get out via VSP or Palace Chace, it does not appear to be an option at this time. So, I pose this question, is it possible for me to cross flow into another AFSC, say Acquisitions Management (63A) to finish out my 10 year ADSC? Thanks for the help...

I am looking for an old buddy who I served with a long time ago and who separated from the USAF in the early 90s. I am lucky in that I have an old set of orders that has his SSN on it. I tried Intelius but only got a listing of possible cities. A full report costs $50, and I want to be sure the info is worth getting before shelling out the cash. I did a search on his name and in those cities via WhitePages.com; but the one best lead (same exact name) I got was not the right person. I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations. The driving factor behind all of this was my being contacted by a guy who served with my bud's father in Vietnam, and who was wit…
