Does anyone know anything about civilian contract aviation postions (preferably pilot but I'd be interested in avionics-that's my major) with the military (or its contractors)? I'm asking because I might have a medical condition that would prevent me from becoming a military pilot (or nav), but I could still get a 1st class medical- no problem. I know a lot of these jobs require previous military experience- I have none. I've always been very interested in military aviation and I'm just trying the see if I can be still involoved and do what I enjoy. Thanks!

One of the "guys" in our squadron thought it would be a good idea to get a margarita machine for our hooch. Should I: A. Talk some sense into him B. Tell the SQ/CC this has bad idea written all over it C. D. Tell him to quit being a SNAP E. C and D [ 06. June 2006, 20:46: Message edited by: Toro ]

Allcon, If you had your choice between ATC or being a commercial pilot, what would you choose? I hold all ratings in the control tower, RAPCON, and center to include Watch Supervisor. Not to toot my own horn, but I hold all FAA complex ratings. However, I love flying and in another 7 hours plus the long X-C, I will hold commercial with instrument ratings. Why do I bring this up? In as little as 500 hours I can become a pilot with several regionals without ATP hours and can build on the regional carriers. I love to fly...God, do I love to fly, but ATC is a job that I look forward to doing. I absolutely, without question, love to perform ATC duties; damn, I love A…

Any tips on housing? I am married w/kids. I called Moody's housing office and was told there was a 12 month wait...not much help for 6 months of training. Someone told me that all UPT students had to live on base and that we were basically stuck on base. Can anyone validate or dispell that rumor?

Why why why??? https://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/pho...F-2820P-001.JPG https://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/pho...F-2820P-032.JPG Why does anyone think this is a good idea? Why would you invite the media? I guess they do give you a lobotomy when you make Major. [ 01. June 2006, 21:37: Message edited by: F-15E WSO ]

Mods, I know this isn't aviation-related, but it can get eligible folks some free money, so I thought I'd try posting it... To all of you out there who have MN as HOR, check out www.thankmntroops.org It's a completely LEGIT organization that has collected donations in order to give out grants to all active-duty/guard/reserve bubbas -- all branches of service, active or retired or separated. Just need to have MN documented as your HOR, and must have deployed to a combat zone since 9/11. More info on the website. Heck, it may only be a couple hundred bucks (might be a lot more, depending on your circumstances [disabled, etc]), but it's free money, no strings at…

I thought this was a pretty good idea. https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/site/...7481&ct=1301253 This guy is a double amputee from Iraq and had some real financial problems imediately after his injury (his family needing $9,000 just to fly to meet him in Texas because they thought he may not make it home, for example). He is trying to get an insurance program started for severely injured soldiers so that families don't have to go through what his did. The policy would pay $50,000 to an amputee or other severe injury. Good stuff. This could really help some families stay on their feet (sts)financially when income is lost (combat pay, spouses having to q…

Does anybody have any info on instrument flying in WWII? Did they have ILS or any kind of navaids? Was there any way to land in the weather? Or was the policy just to divert and stay out of the clouds?

Since informing me of my selection to UPT, it seems I've been placed aside in "the holding pattern." I was pulled off of a deployment so that "someone who is going to be here can gain more experience." Additional ERT's and upcoming TDY's have escaped me for the same, "we need to train new folks." While I thoroughly enjoy being pulled from BattleStaff with my inevitable departure, I'm screaming "WTF! I'm here for 6 more months!" While some LT's in my group were given the, "Thank you for your service, have a nice life...let me know if you need a letter of recommendation," other changes have now felt the ripple effect, bringing me to my point... I learned a …

I hear a lot of talk about going Guard/Reserve over AD. I was wondering how many people plan on staying 20 yrs on AD? Or do most of you plan on leaving AD and finishing in the Reserves?

Most of the guys on this board havent seen a RIF (myself included), but is this what it was like after Gulf 1 and other historic AF RIFs? Air Force notifies force shaping lieutenants 5/10/2006 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFPN) -- Today, 2,084 lieutenants in the 2002 and 2003 accession year groups will learn if they were selected for retention by the Force Shaping Board. Each officer is being notified personally of their status by their senior rater. Officers deployed will be notified by either the deployed commander or their home station senior rater. The Force Shaping Board, led by a two-star board president, was broken down into panels of …

I was just wondering, is it possible/how hard is it to get a C-21 slot right out of UPT? I would think that if it is possible to do, it would be pretty competitive. Any info would be great. Thanks.

When flying a jet with a HUD I was curious how much of your time is spent actually looking through the HUD, as opposed to off to the forward-side. I was thinking maybe the symbology could maybe be a nuisance at times and you just look around it? What about during BFM and SAT?

Howdy Y'all, I am trying to compile a list of DSN Morale Phone Numbers. I am looking for automated DSN-to-Commercial switchboard lines at various bases in the States. For example I know there is an automated line at McChord (but I don't know the number)... If we all knew these phone numbers then we wouldn't have to be put on hold with our local base operators as we request "a commercial off-base call for morale..." Please post any such DSN phone numbers that you know.

By MICHAEL J. SNIFFEN, Associated Press Writer 16 minutes ago ALEXANDRIA, Va. - A federal jury rejected the death penalty for al-Qaida conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui on Wednesday and decided he must spend life in prison for his role in the deadliest terrorist attack in U.S. history. After seven days of deliberation, the nine men and three women rebuffed the government's appeal for death for the only person charged in this country in the four suicide jetliner hijackings that killed nearly 3,000 people on Sept. 11, 2001. Three jurors decided Moussaoui had only limited knowledge of the Sept. 11 plot and three described his role in the attacks as minor, if he had…

This has been a debate among a few of us at work. We are trying to figure out what the hook,or circle, or whatever you want to call it is used for. If you have your MB-4 with the wind computation side up you have a circle-hook-thing that looks like it could be used for hanging the MB-4 up in the aircraft. Why you would do this I do not know, but some people say that is what it is for. Does anyone have any other idea what it is for or is it just something that has no purpose?
