Probably a long shot, but I'm looking for anybody who flew with an A-10 guy around 2003 who goes by "Donk". While putting together a farewell ceremony for him, a bunch of us found out he got a Silver Star on a combat mission in Iraq in '03 for putting his ass on the line and saving a bunch of guys on the ground. He's the type who would never talk (brag) about it, but we got a copy of the official decoration. Now we're looking for anybody who may have a first (or even second) hand story of what happened. All right gents. I've got a three year old boy and his momma wants to hang (hanging model style)a cool airplane in his room. She wants it to be a cool biplane or otherwise early days of aviation rendition. She's pretty savvy in shopping matters but has met with no luck. Current and former EPs: Have you ever administered a checkride (Q-1), subsequently told the examinee there could be a couple of downgrades, you would have to look something up to determine it. Upon further review you downgrade the examinee on said area. Does this pass the smell test?

Soldier impersonators target women in web scams Happened to a very close friend two years ago as he was finishing up command downrange. His name was in the papers which led to a scammer stealing and using his identity to solicit money from women around the country. More egregious than the stolen valor issues just don't know if it is receiving any extra attention from law enforcement/legislators.

As many as 10,000 airmen could be using smart phones on the job in the next year if the Air Force gets the money to buy them, according to a contractor on the project. Now everyone can have an iPhone to go with their personal 50" LCD. What an enormous waste of tax payer dollars.

A couple of days ago we lost Hervey Stockman. Sixty-eight missions flying Mustangs during WWII, one of the first handful of U-2 pilots including the very first flight over the Soviet Union, and later six years as a POW after his Phantom was lost over Vietnam. How much longer will it be down?

There is a lot of interesting discussion being brought up about how to fix Afghanistan so I thought I'd start it's own thread. So I ask you this...you're in charge either as POTUS, SECSTATE, ISAF/CC....basically somebody who can set the strategy for Afghanistan. What do you do to fix it? Do you keep the counter-insurgency strategy? Do you go for another military surge? Reconcile with the Taliban but finance them rather than having AQ finance them? Pull out?

Citizen Soldiers Denied Family Visits

Hey guys, this is my first post. I just transferred to the Air Force Academy after doing some civilian flying. I have about 240 hours (part 61 and 141) and it is all on paper logs. I have been thinking of changing over to an electronic logbook program (I would still maintain the paper logbook for checkrides and a backup. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with a program that is good at tracking military and civilian hours. I just got on the flying team here and will be flying a bit in T-41s and T-51s and hopefully will get a pilot slot and I want a program that will be flexible enough to handle all my flights. So on the AF.MIL website they have a story celebrating the 50th anniversary of the T-38. For some reason our USAF PA folks decided to use a copyrighted picture from Jo Hunter (below), does that mean that after operating the jet for 50 years we could not find a suitable picture of our own? Time to close Combat Camera in the name of efficiency.
