ROTC & OTS Lounge

ROTC & OTS discussion area. Post topics about ROTC/OTS classes, field training, detachments, etc.

  1. I received this email several months back at my .mil address. Thought i'd share with the folks here since you all are so honest and have been there and done that, therefore I think this is the best place for me to get input. I'm going into my sophomore year so the timing is perfect. I was already considering dropping ROTC and just finding a unit and going the OTS route but this sounds like much too sweet of a deal to pass up. The reserves also have a program like this and both of them are in their infancy so i'm not too sure a ton of commanders are aware of this yet. All the guys I've talked to (including current UPT) tell me how awesome guard flying is and i'm aware of …

When developing your package in ROTC for the Active Duty board, are there any factors that are put into your package that are outside of ROTC? Things like being a president of a student organization or any other type of leadership position. Was just curious.

  3. Hi folks, I'm currently starting my final year of college also seriously considering retaking my AFOQT to try and improve my PCSM. AS of the moment, I am planning on commissioning FY18, but that may all change. Hear me out. I'm not really one to be tact so I'll just say this the best that I know how. At the moment, I have an RPA slot and as glamorous as the future of this career looks, it's not something I think I want for myself. That whole idea of flying in a box, disconnected from everything that has defined flying for the past century is something I am still not sure about. As of right now, my PCSM is at a 59. I've taken the TBAS twice and AFOQT onc…

They already upgraded some of the pilot alts to pilot and released ENJJPT. I haven't heard anything about the nav alts moving up and cadre doesn't know. Anyone upgrade to nav or know anyone who has for FY11?

  5. Planning to complete most of my degree while enlisted using TA. I want to do Afrotc since they get the majority of the pilot slots (2nd to the Academy of course). I dont want to miss out on using my Gi Bill to it's full capacity (e5 bah plus tuition) so I was planning to either Minor in something while I do Afrotc or start an entirely new degree. I spoke to someone on a different site and they said I "cant do this." I want to know from others if it's possible to do this? (Since every det. Is different)

I know with force shaping that the AF is trying to get rid of cadets in this upcoming graduating class FY06. My question is: is it possible to leave ROTC now without having to pay back the financial aid or is it too late? This was offered to us in the beginning of the Spring Semester this year, and I was wondering if the offer still stood. Any advice would help. Oh, and I am leaving the AF for greener pastures btw.

I was reading up on this forum and "PCSM" was thrown around a lot. I was just curious as to what a "PCSM" is?

Anyone get accepted for ASCP/SOAR and attend a cross-town community college while enrolled in a AFROTC before transferring over to a university to enter POC and earn their commission? One of the requirements to qualify for these two scholarships are: Be admitted to a school offering Air Force ROTC (including cross-town schools) and the academic major you desire to study. I plan on applying to a cross-town school such as a community college because its easier to get into and I wont have to take the SAT's because i have graded college work. I am just curious if anyone has gone this rout before using an enlisted commissioning scholarship. Thanks in advance!

Just curious if OTS rated boards have a supplemental board like AFROTC does and when is it? What happens to the slots filled by cadets who end up being DQd or leave for whatever reasons?

  12. Right now I am 75% with my associates at Community College. The University that's close to me does have AF ROTC. What does ROTC usually look for, regarding transfers? If a Pilot Slot is my goal would being a Community College student hurt me compared to someone who directly attended a Four Year College directly out of high school? Also what GPA is considered ideal. Right now I am earning my Business Associates and have a 3.5 GPA. Is this low too? (I can still bring it up with my current classes and the last 5 I will take next year). This is probably asked a lot but how does the pilot selection process work for ROTC? I've tried Googling around and most of the answers …

Helping to spread the word that the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots (River Rats) provide scholarships to full time students, both undergrad and grad. Believe it or not, we are having a hard time getting enough applicants each year to maintain our status with the CFC and 501©(3) status. Eligibility falls into two categories: 1) Kinship Requirement: Scholarship grant recipients must be immediate dependent (legal son, daughter or spouse) of: a) A U.S. aircrew member listed as Killed in Action (KIA) or Missing in Action (MIA) from any combat situation involving U.S. military from August 1964 (Vietnam Era) through the present; or b) A military aircrew member killed as t…

Hello to all, My apologies if this has already been covered. For officer training school, do you have to apply for multiple jobs, or can you strictly apply for one job? IE, I want to be a pilot, am I forced into applying for another job, or can I choose whether I apply for jobs other than pilot? Reddit threads have made me question my knowledge on the process. Thanks!

  15. I want to be a pilot (ideally fighters) in the Air Force or Navy. I’m currently entering my freshman year of college at a school that has AFROTC. Keep in mind, I was accepted to this school for spring semester this year, so if I do AFROTC I’ll start a semester behind most of my classmates (not sure if that changes anything). If I want to fly, should I join AFROTC when I get to school in January, or should I wait until after college and try to get a pilot slot through OTS/OCS? I wasn’t sure where my chances would be higher. I have a non-technical major, but I think I will do well in it. Thank you!
